Chapter 70: The Art Room [Twelve]
Is it going to disappear?
He Nas seemed not to have expected Jiang Nan to disappear. After a long wait with no response, her brows furrowed in impatience.
“Jiang Nan.”
She called out again, this time very softly, as if talking to herself. Her eyes drooped, the long eyelashes casting a shadow that hid her expression.
This place… Jiang Nan wasn’t here. This meant Jiang Nan had vanished within the dungeon’s boundaries. Despite her power, He Nas was being deliberately suppressed. If she left the dungeon’s designated area, she wouldn’t be able to find Jiang Nan.
After a while, just as Lin Jia thought He Nas was angry, she heard a soft laugh, one tinged with a reckless madness.
“What should I do? Where should I look for you?”
But at this moment, no one could answer her. Lin Jia only felt the suffocating pressure radiating from her. The surrounding air began to change; a horrifying aura enveloped them, making it hard for Lin Jia to breathe.
“Luo Ning, what are you doing?!”
Lin Jia gripped the office desk to keep from falling to the floor from fear. She stared at the calm-faced He Nas, her brow deeply furrowed. As her heart felt squeezed, she tried to yell to stop her. But it was no use; He Nas’s terrifying nature was revealed in that moment, making Lin Jia feel a bit of despair.
He Nas raised a finger to her lips. In the depths of her enchanting purple eyes, a vortex swirled, pulling people in. Her lips parted, and she spoke with an unquestionable tone.
“Shh, be quiet. I’m looking for someone.”
But the pressure she exerted was so terrifying that Lin Jia had never wished for someone to appear more than she did now. She thought He Nas was looking for Jiang Nan, but when the office door suddenly opened, a disheveled figure appeared.
“Don’t blame her, don’t blame her… She’s just, just…” The person who came in spoke anxiously, but then fell silent. Because she also couldn’t be sure of Jiang Nan’s safety.
“You…” Lin Jia frowned, wary of the person who had barged in. But when she saw her face, a hint of shock flashed in her eyes. “Are you Fang Yuan?!” Lin Jia had seen a photo of Fang Yuan. Although this person’s face was pale, it was indeed Fang Yuan.
“Yes, she is.” He Nas’s pale lips parted. Her voice was as pleasant as flowing water, yet as cold as an iceberg. Her light purple eyes narrowed slightly, her condescending posture making it difficult to look directly at her.
The sudden pressure caused the person to kneel with a “thud.” As He Nas approached, she said, “Don’t you know that she’s very important to me?”
Her cold, lifeless voice was somewhat similar to the system’s. Fang Yuan’s body trembled uncontrollably under the pressure, her deceased soul feeling a sense of dread, yet she spoke with a helpless tone.
“I know, but she…” Fang Yuan’s voice faltered, then she continued, with a hint of pleading. “She just lost control.”
Because of the dungeon’s anomaly, it wasn’t that the important NPCs had lost control; rather, it was a way for the main god to shift the blame. To kill the heretics, it had allowed evil to run rampant in the dungeon, which led to the current uncertainty of life and death.
Seeing He Nas’s eyes gradually turn frosty, Fang Yuan quickly tried to explain on the other person’s behalf. “She won’t harm him. God, please forgive her.” She begged, but He Nas remained silent for a long time, so she didn’t dare to relax.
Lin Jia watched the shape of Fang Yuan’s mouth as she spoke, and she noticed that a word was clearly missing. What word had the system censored? She looked at Fang Yuan’s fear of He Nas, thinking to herself, and subtly examined the other person, hoping to figure out more.
He Nas didn’t speak, but after a moment of static on the walkie-talkie, Jiang Nan’s voice came through. “I’m fine.” Her voice was calm and composed, as if she hadn’t been hurt at all.
Hearing Jiang Nan’s voice, He Nas’s brow lifted. She couldn’t describe what she was feeling, but she thought she should be happy. The hand holding the walkie-talkie tightened unconsciously, though she didn’t realize it herself. She didn’t know what the feeling of happiness was, so she didn’t think about it anymore.
Knowing that Jiang Nan was alive, Lin Jia also breathed a sigh of relief. The pressure from He Nas just now had been so terrifying that she almost thought the person would lose her mind here.
He Nas’s eyes held their usual smile, yet something was different about them. She said to Jiang Nan on the other end, “Where are you now?”
“Outside the school.” Jiang Nan said, and then coughed a few times.
He Nas lowered her head and thought for a moment, then laughed. “Can I come find you?”
Jiang Nan on the other end seemed to be silent for a moment before she replied, sounding a bit helpless, “You can.”
With the answer she got, the smile in He Nas’s eyes grew wider. She couldn’t tell why she was so happy. Lin Jia and Fang Yuan, who was on the ground, watched her leave in a hurry, both of them silent.
Jiang Nan had felt herself being put into a sack. To keep herself from completely fainting, she had grabbed a shard of glass in her hand, letting the pain keep her awake. Bl00d welled up from her palm, and the smell of rust filled her nostrils. She didn’t like the smell, but it kept her especially clear-headed. Her eyes were open, and she could only see the light seeping through the gaps in the sack, but it wasn’t enough to let her see her current situation.
The space inside the sack was small, and if the person found out she was awake, there was no telling if they would knock her out again. The person was struggling to drag the sack with Jiang Nan in it, unaware of the trail of bl00d Jiang Nan was leaving behind. It wasn’t until the person entered the elevator and the doors closed that she saw the shocking bl00d trail.
She was startled and quickly looked at the person in the sack beside her, seeing the bl00d-red sack. With such a large amount of bleeding, a normal person would either have died from bl00d loss or would have already gone cold.
“Hey, you’re not completely dead, are you?” She nudged the sack. When there was no reaction, she became a bit flustered, frowning and muttering to herself, “You can’t die. It took so much effort to get someone out…”
The elevator soon reached the first floor, and the person dragged her out. Jiang Nan had heard what the person said in the elevator and was filled with doubt. Why did this person’s tone sound like they didn’t want her to die? Where were they taking her?
After an unknown amount of time, the person finally dragged Jiang Nan to a place and let out a sigh of relief, complaining. “I won’t let you die in there.” Then she looked at the completely red sack, frowned, and worried if Jiang Nan was really dead. She then opened the sack and muttered again. “If you’re alive, just get out of here…”
She hadn’t finished speaking when a cold glint flashed before her eyes. The next second, a sharp blade was at her neck, its surface reflecting her face.
“It’s you?!” Jiang Nan looked up at her. Once her eyes adjusted to the sudden glare, she saw that it was the girl from that night. She was surprised and her grip on the knife faltered. But she quickly regained her composure, her eyes filled with an icy coldness. “Why are you here? Where is Fang Yuan?”
The girl was pressed against the cold blade, her life constantly in danger, but she didn’t seem to care. She was a bit happy to see Jiang Nan alive. She grabbed the blade and said, “You’re still alive! Then you can leave here yourself. I have to go back.”
Immediately, not only Jiang Nan’s bl00d but also the girl’s bl00d flowed onto the knife. Jiang Nan watched the bl00d dripping from the tip of the knife, her eyes darkening. Her tone was still cold. “Answer my question.”
The girl blinked in confusion. After a while, she remembered Jiang Nan’s question. “She… I don’t know.” She answered the second question but didn’t say why she, and not Fang Yuan, had brought Jiang Nan out.
Jiang Nan looked at her confused face and was about to soften, but then she remembered the statues on the playground that were rumored to be made of bodies. She said coldly, “So, you killed those people and turned them into statues? What makes you any different from those disgusting people?”
Hearing this, the girl’s emotions became agitated. Her grip on the blade tightened as she defended herself. “No, I didn’t kill anyone! I brought them all out!”
Facing the girl’s denial, Jiang Nan didn’t fully believe her. “Where is this?” Jiang Nan’s brows furrowed slightly as she looked around her surroundings. She realized they were in an unfamiliar place. In front of them was a wall, and behind them was a quiet road with no traffic.
The cold wind blew, rustling the leaves, just like a normal morning on the way to school. “Outside the school,” the girl answered honestly.
“Outside the school?” Jiang Nan frowned.
“Yes, I brought you out during the chaos,” the girl nodded.
Chaos? Whose chaos? Jiang Nan was confused, and then she suddenly remembered the complete darkness from earlier. The darkness wasn’t because of a violation of Fang Yuan’s rules but because the dungeon’s magnetic field was in chaos. So that’s why the girl said she brought her out during the chaos.
Thinking about this, Jiang Nan at least knew the girl didn’t have any malicious intent and she put her knife away. When she was about to ask something else, Lin Jia’s loud voice came from the walkie-talkie on the ground.
Luo Ning? Losing her mind? Why was He Nas losing her mind? Jiang Nan thought for a moment and then remembered that she had been missing for a long time. Thinking that this might be why He Nas was behaving this way, she felt a strange warmth in her heart. She picked up the walkie-talkie and said, “I’m fine.”
…
After He Nas said she was coming, the girl stood up, her face pale from bl00d loss. She pursed her lips and muttered to herself, “How am I going to get the other one out?”
Hearing this, Jiang Nan put down the walkie-talkie, turned her head to look at the girl who was unsteady on her feet, and asked, “Who else?”
“The redhead beside you.”
Jiang Nan heard her mention He Nas. She couldn’t tell what was in her eyes as she asked, “Why do you need to bring her out?”
“She’s the same as you.” The girl answered quickly. She didn’t seem to be lying, but it made Jiang Nan lower her eyes in thought.
“She’s coming to find me, and I need to go back,” Jiang Nan said.
The girl looked at Jiang Nan as if she were insane. She frowned. “Why would you go back?! I worked so hard to get you out! Do you want to die?! Don’t you know this place is going to disappear?!” The girl spoke urgently, as if she didn’t realize what she had revealed.
Jiang Nan looked into the distance, her expression unreadable. She said calmly, “Is it going to disappear?”
The girl immediately realized her slip-up but didn’t dare to speak again.
