She's Crazy, I Love Her - Chapter 10
Chi Yue didn’t return; she left immediately.
By the time Sun Zhiping asked where she was, she had already reached her dormitory.
Her tongue throbbed with pain.
She looked in the mirror and saw a distinct, jagged cut on the side of her tongue, its edges ragged and torn.
She scrubbed her mouth roughly with the back of her hand, then bent over to splash cold water on her face. When she straightened up, the rims of her eyes were noticeably red.
On her phone, Sun Zhiping was pressing her about her relationship with Qi You, even asking her to arrange a dinner where everyone could sit down and discuss work—a common practice in their industry.
Chi Yue flipped her phone face down.
When Sun Zhiping didn’t get a response, he called directly.
The phone vibrated persistently against the ceramic surface, buzzing and twitching in small, frantic movements until it reached the edge and abruptly stopped.
Only the soft rustling of water remained within the glass door.
Warm water streamed down her face, obscuring her vision and covering her mouth and nose, pulling Chi Yue into darkness.
She licked the base of her teeth, the sharp pain on her tongue anchoring her in the void.
She had slapped Qi You.
Qi You would never let her get away with it.
Someone like Qi You, a second-generation rich kid, had undoubtedly been pampered and spoiled since childhood, accustomed to acting without restraint. Even minor setbacks would be treated as catastrophic events. How could she possibly tolerate someone striking her face?
They say Qi You likes me? Not a word of it. Someone like her, with that kind of demeanor, it’s more like she hates me.
But I’ve only met Qi You twice.
A faint sense of suffocation washed over her. Chi Yue raised her hand, threading it through her wet hair. Water streamed down her fingertips, parting briefly to create a narrow, fleeting gap.
Chi Yue exhaled softly.
Yet the arms that coiled around her from behind were like boneless water spirits, silently clinging to her body. Slender, resilient arms pressed against her chest, fingers pressing against her throat. The icy touch and lack of oxygen sent a shiver through her.
“Chi Yue.”
The two words rang with unnerving clarity.
Chi Yue’s heart pounded violently. Her eyes snapped open as she jerked out of the dense shower spray.
The bathroom was thick with steam, the enclosed space causing a thin layer of condensation to form on the glass door.
Chi Yue slammed the shower off. The sudden silence only amplified her ragged, rapid breathing.
She stood frozen for a long moment before turning the water back on.
That night, she dreamed again—bizarre, fragmented images she couldn’t quite recall. She woke up late the next morning. Just as she finished washing up, Sun Zhiping called again.
Chi Yue’s temples throbbed.
When she answered, Sun Zhiping’s tone was disturbingly solicitous. “Are you back at the dorm? Why did you leave yesterday without a word? Is everything alright?”
Chi Yue paused for several seconds before replying, “I’m fine.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Sun Zhiping cleared his throat and continued, “Now that Liu Yifang has resigned, I’ll be your manager from now on. Make sure to tell me if anything comes up in the future, so I don’t have to worry.”
Chi Yue frowned as she listened. “President Sun, I asked Sister Tang yesterday, and she said she could—”
“What? You think I’m not qualified to manage you?” Sun Zhiping’s voice rose sharply before quickly softening. “Tang Min? What does she know? The resources I have are far beyond what a mere junior manager could offer. Don’t refuse—this is settled. And stop calling me ‘President Sun,’ it’s too formal. Just call me Brother Sun.”
Chi Yue felt as disgusted as if she’d swallowed a fly.
After a long silence, Chi Yue remained silent.
Sun Zhiping decided to take a softer approach, changing the subject. “You weren’t feeling well the other day, were you? Are you better today?”
Chi Yue gave a curt nod.
“Take care of yourself,” Sun Zhiping said. “Filming for Hua Fangfei starts soon. We can’t afford for you to fall behind.”
Chi Yue froze. “Hua Fangfei is starting filming?!”
“Yes, didn’t you know?” Sun Zhiping sounded even more surprised than she was. “Wenhui contacted Lanshan Company this morning to discuss collaboration. Didn’t you arrange that?”
“I didn’t,” Chi Yue said.
“Oh, whether you did or not, President Qi must have done it for your sake. Otherwise, Wenhui would never have invested in a project like this,” Sun Zhiping chuckled, his voice barely concealing his smugness. “Now it looks like Hua Fangfei is about to get a major upgrade.”
Chi Yue felt dazed, unsure whether to be thrilled or terrified.
From its initial planning stages, Hua Fangfei had been conceived as a low-budget web series. Apart from the original novel’s modest popularity, the production team’s resources and equipment were all standard for web series production.
But Sun Zhiping was saying that Wenhui Media had provided the contract.
Everyone in the industry knew that investors weren’t all the same. If Qi You had simply thrown a few million into the project under her personal name, it would have been a nice bonus, but it wouldn’t have significantly raised the project’s profile.
Wenhui Media’s involvement was entirely different. With their professional producers, distribution channels, and marketing teams, having Wenhui Media’s name attached to Hua Fangfei would elevate the entire project overnight.
Sun Zhiping clicked his tongue, his smug smile practically radiating through the phone. He feigned a gentle tone.
“Chi Yue, why didn’t you tell me about your connection with President Qi sooner? If you had, Liu Yifang wouldn’t have made such a foolish mistake.”
“Speaking of which, Liu Yifang’s sudden departure is rather suspicious. She left without a word, didn’t even come in for the handover. Could it be… you had something to do with it?”
“Of course—”
Chi Yue hesitated slightly before finally saying, “Of course not.”
