She's Crazy, I Love Her - Chapter 11
For Wenhui Media, a small project like Hua Fangfei was hardly worth their attention. However, since it was the Young Miss’s first venture and the project itself wasn’t particularly risky, no one dared to interfere.
After three rounds of contract revisions, Wenhui Media officially became one of the two co-producers of Hua Fangfei.
He Wen walked with newfound confidence, having quickly adapted to being addressed as “President He.” He would never again make the mistake of emphasizing that he was merely an assistant.
When He Wen went to see Qi You with the crew’s tentative filming start date, Qi You was surrounded by a group of people.
Zheng Qing had specially arranged for her usual stylist, Aman, to come to the house.
Aman smiled. “Madam Zheng instructed me to tell you that since you’re working now, your style might need a refresh.”
After a moment, Qi You finally glanced at herself in the mirror.
She wasn’t wearing heavy makeup, just subtle enhancements to correct minor imperfections and deepen her facial contours.
This had happened so many times before that Qi You had lost interest. She glanced at her reflection before shifting her gaze to He Wen in the mirror.
He Wen was standing behind the crowd, watching her. Startled by her direct gaze, he quickly stepped aside. “President Qi, the filming ceremony for Hua Fangfei is tentatively scheduled for this Thursday, the 25th, at 2 PM. The crew has invited you to attend. Should I book your flight in advance?”
“No need,” Qi You replied.
He Wen paused, then asked again, “So you won’t be attending?”
“No,” Qi You confirmed.
He Wen fell silent for a moment before saying, “Understood.”
He Wen was starting to feel lost about Qi You’s intentions. He had never pursued anyone romantically himself, but even if he hadn’t eaten pork, he’d certainly seen pigs run. After all, such pursuits were common in their social circle, and the methods were usually quite crude: either throwing money or throwing resources.
Using resources was a bit tricky given his authority, but with Wenhui Media backing him and Qi You’s approval, it wasn’t an insurmountable challenge.
Throwing money, on the other hand, was the simplest approach. He Wen took Qi You’s credit card and meticulously planned out his strategy. He gradually purchased clothes and bags, then found excuses to gift them to Chi Yue in Qi You’s name.
He believed his methods and phrasing were gentle, careful not to bruise Chi Yue’s pride. He favored a slow and steady approach, aiming for subtlety that would convey deep affection without being too blatant.
Yet, in stark contrast to his efforts, President Qi remained remarkably aloof. To this day, He Wen couldn’t be sure if she had ever contacted Miss Chi privately.
How is she supposed to win someone over like this?
Qi You wasn’t in any rush regarding Chi Yue. If she were, she could have simply assigned someone else to handle the matter, rather than relying on He Wen.
In truth, ever since she had lost control and killed Chi Yue, she had avoided all contact with her for a long time.
Her therapist had advised her to stay away from triggers.
Chi Yue could easily provoke her emotions.
Zheng Qing sent people to dress Qi You, but knowing her daughter’s stubborn nature, she didn’t insist on complete control. Instead, she provided three sets of gowns and jewelry for Qi You to choose from, an extravagant display befitting a top celebrity.
Aman opened a jewelry box before Qi You. Inside lay a conch pearl necklace, its beauty enhanced by the pure black velvet lining.
The pearls glowed with a soft, pale rose hue, their surfaces shimmering with faint pink flame patterns. Their luster was warm and jade-like, their texture as smooth as fine jade.
Truly beautiful.
Qi You’s fingers traced the pearl’s surface before she closed the lid and handed the box to He Wen.
“Give this to Miss Chi.”
He Wen’s eyes widened in shock.
Aman blurted out, “But this is Madam Zheng’s—”
Qi You released her grip. He Wen, startled and fearing he might drop the box, scrambled to catch it.
At 5:30 PM, Madam Zheng’s car arrived to pick up Qi You.
The Pei Family was among the first to benefit most from the early state-owned enterprise privatization reforms. The patriarch had served in the military in his youth, entered politics in his prime, and transitioned to business in middle age. Even after leaving public office, he maintained deep connections within the system, achieving renown in both political and commercial circles.
To accommodate the spending restrictions of certain guests, the patriarch’s birthday banquet was held at his home in the West District.
The sky was clear, and the sunlight remained intense. Rays streamed through the tinted glass, casting soft, fragmented patterns across Qi You’s face.
“Qi You,” Zheng Qing called out, her tone laced with displeasure.
Before Qi You could react, Zheng Qing lightly slapped the back of her hand.
Zheng Qing swiftly pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, her brow furrowed.
Qi You took it and quietly wiped her fingers.
One of the bad habits her body had retained from her past life: nail-biting.
Qi You hadn’t had this habit before—at least, she thought she hadn’t. Her memories were hazy.
Zheng Qing sighed, breaking the silence in the car. “How’s work going?”
“It’s fine,” Qi You replied.
“I heard from Lao Fan that you’re working on a project.”
“Mm-hmm.”
After a pause, Zheng Qing’s voice grew sharper. “Qi You.”
Qi You turned to look at her.
Zheng Qing’s face initially showed annoyance at being ignored and given perfunctory answers by her daughter. After a moment, her expression softened into forced patience.
Qi You’s personality underwent a dramatic shift during her adolescence, coinciding with Zheng Yue’s birth. Zheng Qing couldn’t help but connect the two events.
It wasn’t that she felt she needed her eldest daughter’s approval to have a second child. Rather, Qi You’s transformation was so profound—almost as if she had become a completely different person—that Zheng Qing couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
