Sir, You've Got The Wrong Person - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Threat (Part 1)
Yan Yiyi’s heart pounded at the butler’s words. Why would Chu Mufeng suddenly show up at the Mu residence? She’d been stuck at the prince’s manor for days and had no idea how the ranch business between Xiao Yunfei and Chu Mufeng was going. But right now, coming back here as Yan Yiyi, it really wasn’t the best time to run into Chu Mufeng. After all, she had just managed to shake off a prince, and here came another troublesome young master.
Thinking this, Yan Yiyi gently tugged at Xiao Yunfei’s sleeve and whispered, “You go and greet Young Master Chu. I’ll head back to my room.”
It was only when she spoke that the butler noticed her presence. He smiled awkwardly and greeted her, saying, “Miss Yan, you’re here to see the young master? Unfortunately, he left the estate a few days ago and hasn’t returned yet.”
Since Yan Yiyi had visited the Mu residence a few times before under this identity, the butler was somewhat familiar with her.
“No problem,” Xiao Yunfei said calmly, explaining to the butler, “Miss Yan is just staying here for a few days. The young master already told me. Arrange a guest room in the west courtyard for her to rest. I’ll go greet Young Master Chu.”
“Yes, Young Master Xiao!” the butler quickly replied.
“Thank you, Butler,” Yan Yiyi said politely, keeping her head down as she prepared to follow the steward toward the west wing. But before she could take more than a few steps, Chu Mufeng’s lazy, low voice sounded from behind, “Miss Yan, what a coincidence.”
Her steps faltered. She looked up and saw Chu Mufeng walking toward them from the main hall, his face wearing its usual gentle smile. Forcing a sweet smile onto her own face, she replied, “Young Master Chu, what a coincidence indeed.” Wasn’t he supposed to be in the hall? How did he show up so quickly?
The steward laughed. “So you two already know each other.”
Xiao Yunfei entered, greeted Chu Mufeng with a bow, and apologized, “I’m sorry. I had to step out today and didn’t expect you to visit on such short notice. I hope you weren’t kept waiting.”
Chu Mufeng, dressed in a pale moon-colored robe and holding a matching feather fan, smiled elegantly. “It was rather sudden of me, I admit. I should have sent a card first. I happened to pass by today and thought to drop in and discuss the ranch business. But since both the young master and you weren’t in, I was just about to leave when I ran into you and Miss Yan. Seems like fate, doesn’t it? Miss Yan?”
His eyes locked onto Yan Yiyi with an unreadable look that made her uneasy. She forced a smile and nodded. “Yes, quite a coincidence.”
Xiao Yunfei’s gaze flickered toward her before turning back to Chu Mufeng. “Our young master is still out inspecting the shops and hasn’t returned. If it’s about the ranch, you can discuss it with me.”
Chu Mufeng’s smile deepened. “No rush. I’ll have Su Mu come back another day to discuss the details. Actually, I’m here today not just for the business.”
Xiao Yunfei frowned slightly. “Oh? Is there something else, Young Master Chu?”
Yan Yiyi also looked at Chu Mufeng, puzzled. Aside from the ranch deal, what other connection did he have with the Mu family?
Chu Mufeng chuckled softly, his gaze landing on her again, sharp and cold beneath the smile. Just as she was thinking of an excuse to slip away, he suddenly said, “Actually, I’m here to ask for someone.”
Xiao Yunfei’s frown deepened. “Ask for someone? May I ask who?”
Chu Mufeng folded his fan and casually pointed at Yan Yiyi. “Her.”
Xiao Yunfei’s face darkened. “Miss Yan and our young master share deep affection. She is the future mistress of the Mu household. I hope Young Master Chu won’t joke about such things.”
Chu Mufeng’s smile didn’t fade. “That’s going to be tricky then. Half a year ago, Miss Yan and I already bowed to heaven and earth as husband and wife…”
“Chu Mufeng!” Yan Yiyi cut him off sharply, her face paling. She stepped forward and grabbed his collar, lowering her voice. “Young Master Chu, a word in private.”
Chu Mufeng glanced down at her hand; his eyes were cold even though his lips still held a smile. He didn’t respond.
Her grip on his clothes tightened as she looked at him, almost pleading. She couldn’t let Xiao Yunfei find out. She knew his temper—he had always protected her fiercely. If he learned what Chu Mufeng had done to her, no doubt he would go after him without hesitation.
Officially, Xiao Yunfei was just the Mu family’s eldest young master’s retainer and friend. But few knew he actually led “Labyrinth,” a powerful intelligence and assassination group linked to the royal court. If he and Prince Jun Tianyu united, it could lead to a dangerous situation. And if Chu Mufeng, who had ties to the Eastern court, got caught in this, it might spark a conflict—not outright war, but enough to seriously damage “Labyrinth.”
“Yiyi?” Xiao Yunfei’s voice turned cold as he pieced things together from her reaction. “What’s going on here?”
“Yunfei, I’ll explain later. For now, I need to have a private word with Young Master Chu,” Yan Yiyi said quickly. She grabbed Chu Mufeng’s arm and prepared to use her lightfoot skills to leave. But as soon as she leaped, pain shot through her injured shoulder, making her stumble mid-air.
Just as she was about to fall, an arm wrapped around her waist, steadying her. Chu Mufeng held her close, using his own strength to carry them both over rooftops and trees until they landed in a secluded spot.
