Sir, You've Got The Wrong Person - Chapter 17
Half an hour later, Chu Mufeng indeed appeared as promised. Since she was used to roaming the martial world alone, Yan Yiyi had little to pack. She simply wanted to explain to Xiao Yunfei about her relationship with Chu Mufeng. She didn’t dare mention the wedding ceremony six months ago, nor the real reason she was returning to the Chu Manor with him. She utilized Jun Tianyu as an excuse, asserting that she needed to maintain a low profile with Chu Mufeng temporarily.
Naturally, Xiao Yunfei didn’t believe her words. But helpless as he was, he couldn’t force the truth out of her. If Yan Yiyi didn’t want to talk, no amount of pressure would make her yield. If she was pushed too hard, she would only turn against him—and that was what he feared the most. So apart from secretly assigning people to protect her, he had no choice but to let her go.
Chu Mufeng still had matters to attend to in Xijing, so they didn’t set off for Dongdu immediately. They needed to stay in Xijing for a few more days.
The Chu family, being wealthy and powerful, owned several villas on the outskirts of Xijing. Since they hadn’t yet returned to Dongdu, Yan Yiyi followed Chu Mufeng and stayed at one of the Chu family’s villas in the eastern suburbs of Xijing.
Seeing that Chu Mufeng wasn’t in a rush to return east, Yan Yiyi wanted to go back to the Mu Manor for a few more days. Chu Mufeng cut short Yan Yiyi’s words as soon as she raised the subject. With her weakness firmly in his grasp, she could only submit. Could Chu Mufeng, with that token in his possession, really control her indefinitely?
Staring at Chu Mufeng’s cold, handsome profile, Yan Yiyi hesitated for a moment before she couldn’t help but say,
“Master Chu, surely there must be a limit to how long I have to stay with you at the Chu Manor? I can’t be trapped in your estate for a lifetime just because of that token, can I?”
Chu Mufeng abruptly halted, turned his head, and glanced at her.
“If you don’t want to be trapped here for life, then you’ll have to come and take it back yourself.”
Yan Yiyi looked at him and clenched her teeth in secret. Suddenly, she raised her hand to strike him. A flicker of mockery flashed through Chu Mufeng’s eyes. He lifted his hand lightly, effortlessly catching hers, spun her around, and pinned her arm behind her back—pulling her straight into his chest.
The sharp lines of his lips curled into a faint, taunting smile. Watching her struggle like a trapped beast, Chu Mufeng spoke coolly:
“Miss Yan, don’t bother playing tricks with that pitiful level of martial skill. Stay quietly in the manor. When the time comes, I will let you go myself.”
Yan Yiyi narrowed her eyes, catching the hint in his words—”when the time comes, I will let you go.” She stopped struggling and turned her face to look at him.
“So according to Master Chu, you already have a plan in mind? I wonder, when exactly is this ‘time’ you speak of?”
“It’ll take about a year.” Chu Mufeng gave her a glance, released her, and said slowly,
“Miss Yan, I can only bind you for a year or so at most. You are free to hate or despise me, but during this year, as long as you remain as my wife, you will assume the role of the Chu family’s young madam. Don’t think about luring in any more suitors outside, and don’t even dream of running away. You know that when I get ruthless, I can be crueler than anyone else.”
As he spoke, his eyes glanced meaningfully at her chest—the spot where he had once left a near-fatal wound.
Yan Yiyi understood that glance all too well. Instinctively, she took two steps back. That wound hadn’t claimed her life back then, but the pain it brought was seared into her bones. Even now, whenever the weather turned cold and rainy, that spot would ache faintly—a constant reminder of how this man once sought to end her life.
Watching her step back, Chu Mufeng’s dark eyes narrowed. He abruptly reached out, pulled her back into his arms, hooked a finger beneath her chin, and made her look into his eyes. He spoke slowly, one word at a time: “Yan Yiyi, put away your pointless fear. You will pretend to be happy to be staying at Chu Manor this year, even if it’s just an act. Both emperors—the one in Xize and the one in Dongze—want to wipe out the Labyrinth faction. No ruler would tolerate seeing their puppet regime fall into the hands of an ambitious hero. The Dongze Emperor, especially, cannot stand the thought of the Xize throne ending up with Jun Tianyu. So you should understand—cutting off Jun Tianyu’s wings is the most urgent thing Dongze’s Emperor wants. If you want the Labyrinth to survive a few more years, you’d best figure out for yourself what needs to be done.”
