Sir, You've Got The Wrong Person - Chapter 4
Half a year later:
In the early morning, when the first ray of sunlight had just reached the treetops, the peaceful Mu residence was suddenly filled with a woman’s weeping voice, soft and angry at the same time.
“Master… Master… You must stand up for me… The Young Master… The Young Master, he…”
The third concubine of the Mu family walked into the main hall while wiping her tears. She saw the Young Master, Mu Qingchen, sitting next to the Mu family’s master. She paused and became quiet, clearly unhappy.
“What’s going on? ”The Mu family’s master asked in a calm but powerful voice. The third concubine looked at Mu Qingchen, who was smiling slightly, but she didn’t dare to speak.
“Master… The Young Master… He… Please speak up for us…” Just as the third concubine stopped crying, another group came in crying. The second, fourth, and fifth concubines entered the hall together.
The Mu family’s master rubbed his temples and shouted coldly, “Why are you crying? Am I dead or something? Crying early in the morning like this—is this how a noble family behaves? ”
All the crying stopped instantly. The beautiful concubines stared at the master with tears in their eyes, and from time to time, they gave angry glances at Mu Qingchen, who was calmly drinking tea.
“Qingchen, what is this all about? ”The master asked, softening his tone as he saw all his concubines staring pitifully at his beloved son.
“It’s not a big deal, Father,” Mu Qingchen said with a smile. “I just noticed that the concubines and the young siblings don’t do anything in the house, but they get more money each month than the stewards who actually work hard. I felt bad for those hardworking servants, so I decided to cut half the monthly allowance of the concubines and the siblings and gave it to the stewards and maids instead.”
He took a sip of tea and looked at his father with a calm smile. “Father, I didn’t think this was such a big thing, so I didn’t ask you first. Besides, the concubines don’t really spend much, except on makeup. It’s a waste to give them so much money. So I made the decision myself. I hope you won’t be upset.”
“You still should have discussed such a big decision with me first…” the master frowned. He was clearly unhappy about Qingchen making decisions on his own.
“If I can’t even make small decisions like this, how can I take care of such a big household?” Mu Qingchen smiled, his eyes full of charm. “Father, maybe you should pick someone else from your beloved children to manage the family business. I wouldn’t mind living a lazy life where I just eat and wear nice clothes without needing to work.”
The Mu family’s master had many concubines and a total of eleven children. But aside from this so-called eldest son, the eldest daughter Mu Qingyan (who had already married into the palace), and the seventeen-year-old second son Mu Qingfan, the rest were all young ladies and lords who liked playing and partying. Qingfan aimed for a career in government, but the master knew deep down that no one else was better suited than Qingchen to manage the family.
“Qingchen, don’t say that. I’m not blaming you,” the master said quickly, noticing his son’s tone had turned cold. He ignored the weeping concubines and tried to comfort him. Ever since he handed over the family business to his eldest son three years ago, he rarely got involved in business anymore. The whole family now relied on Qingchen.
Mu Qingchen glanced at the standing concubines and smiled. “If Father has no problem with it, then it’s settled. I still have things to do, so I won’t disturb you and the concubines any longer.”
Without waiting for a response, he turned and happily left the hall. By his side was Xiao Yunfei, who always stood quietly with a gentle smile and followed him out.
“Yiyi, what are you doing?” Xiao Yunfei asked once they returned to the room. “You cut their pay—you’re just asking for trouble.”
“I wasn’t trying to make trouble,” Mu Qingchen (who was actually Yan Yiyi in disguise) smiled and said playfully. “It’s just been too peaceful here lately. Life’s a bit boring without a little drama.”
As she spoke, her slender fingers gently touched her face. Then, with a small pull, she removed the stunningly handsome face she wore. Underneath it was her real face—delicate and beautiful. She wore the mask around her family and her real face in public. Probably no one in history had done that before.
People often said that there were two beauties in the world: Mu Qingchen of Xize and Chu Mufeng of Dongze. Mu Qingchen’s beauty had a mysterious charm, while Chu Mufeng’s was bold and manly. The title of “One of the Two Beauties” started spreading three years ago, when she took over the Mu family business and became famous, unexpectedly ranking alongside Chu Mufeng.
If it weren’t for the strange marriage six months ago, she wouldn’t have known that she had already met this “Beauty of Dongze”… and not in an ordinary way.
Remembering that passionate night, her cheeks blushed. She coughed lightly and said, “I’m meeting someone for a business talk today. Would you like to come, Senior Brother?”
“Who is it?” Xiao Yunfei asked.
“It’s the owner of the northern pasture in Xize. They’re famous but very mysterious. I still don’t know who exactly I’ll be meeting,” Yan Yiyi replied. This pasture provided horses for the royal court and was very profitable. She had been trying to reach them for a while and finally got the chance.
“I’ll go with you,” Xiao Yunfei smiled.
“Okay. Wait here, I’ll change my clothes.”
Xiao Yunfei was her senior and advisor. Bringing him along would help her with the deal. Soon, Yan Yiyi came out wearing a plain but elegant robe, with her mask back on. The combination of the white robe and that stunning face made her look more otherworldly than ever.
People in the capital all believed the Mu family’s eldest son had a face more beautiful than a woman’s. But no one knew that it was just a mask, and the famous young master was actually a woman. Even the Mu family’s master had no idea.
Her mother had once been a famous wandering heroine, known as the “Fairy of the Floating Steps.” But she fell for a handsome and wealthy man—Mu Yan, the capital’s richest man at the time—and married him despite everyone’s warnings.
At first, they had a sweet marriage. But not long after she became pregnant, her husband’s true nature showed. He brought in another pregnant woman—his second concubine. Her mother had hoped to give birth to a son who would win her husband’s heart back, but she gave birth to a daughter. In despair, she bribed the midwife and maids to lie and say it was a boy. Her husband never checked, and so, Yan Yiyi’s identity as a boy was set. Her mother gained favor again, especially since the second concubine gave birth to a girl.
That favor lasted five years—until her father fell in love with a singer and made her his third concubine. Later, he brought in a fourth concubine, and her mother finally gave up. Five years later, she died of sadness.
Since her mother and her mother’s maid had always cared for her, no one found out she was a girl. But as she grew older, her beauty became more obvious. At five, she already looked like her mother. Her mother, who was still favored at the time, feared that her secret would be discovered and sent her to live with her grandfather, using martial arts training as an excuse.
She lived away for many years and only returned to the Mu house at age fourteen. Now, five years later, she looked just like her mother in her youth. No matter how she dressed, she still looked like a girl. So, she made a mask using both her father’s and mother’s features and wore it as Mu Qingchen.
If her mother had known that all her efforts to raise her daughter as a boy would still end in heartbreak, would she have done things differently? Her love had only brought suffering to herself and her child.
Yan Yiyi felt a little love and hate toward her parents. She admired her mother’s deep love but also pitied her. Loving someone who would never change was like a moth flying into a flame.
When she moved in with her grandfather, she gave her a new name—Yan Yiyi. It wasn’t a special name; it simply sounded like the number eleven, because that was the date she was born.
Compared to the complicated Mu family, she liked the free life outside. She preferred being Yan Yiyi more than being Mu Qingchen.
She had only returned to the Mu family to see her dying mother. Pretending to be the eldest son was her idea. It helped keep her freedom, as no one would suspect that Yan Yiyi and Mu Qingchen were the same person.
Taking over the family business was never her plan. But by accident, she signed a deal as Mu Qingchen and became famous as a business genius. Her father was thrilled and let her manage more of the business. She had a natural talent for it—and money was always useful. With shops in many cities and a powerful family name, she could go anywhere.
Even when she wore her real face, and even if she had no money, she could walk into a Mu family restaurant, show her token, and get a warm meal.
Because she used the token so often, people started to guess about the connection between Yan Yiyi and the Young Master. Rumors spread, especially since Mu Qingchen had turned down many marriage proposals. People began to say that Yan Yiyi was his secret lover.
