Snatching My Stepsister's White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 4
As Lin Xiangwan had suspected, Xu Chen was a Quasi S-Tier. To become a true S-rank, one had to join the Military Department, meaning most Alphas Xu Chen encountered couldn’t handle her due to her superior marking ability.
Even Suppressants and Blockers were as ineffective against her as leaky window paper. During that brief, wine-scented gaze, the two women had silently exchanged a wealth of unspoken information.
Now that these unspoken truths were laid bare, Lin Xiangwan remained unfazed. “Don’t worry,” she said calmly. “If you dare to mark me, I’ll dare to propose.”
The words were too heavy for mere flirtation, yet Lin Xiangwan’s expression was too earnest. Xu Chen froze for several seconds before finding her voice. “How many people have you said that to?”
“Only you.” Lin Xiangwan lifted her gaze to meet Xu Chen’s eyes, her voice softening with implication. “Shall we dance? Or…”
The unspoken continuation hung in the air, understood by both. Xu Chen’s heart pounded faster. She suddenly realized this cold-faced CEO had nothing to do with abstinence. After all, how could an Alpha with both wealth and beauty possibly tolerate loneliness?
“Dance,” she replied, almost defiantly. “I wonder if you’ll dance with me, or just watch me dance with someone else?”
“I’m not that generous,” Lin Xiangwan said with a faint smile. “But I’ll only dance one dance.”
If even a cripple was willing to take to the dance floor, Xu Chen had no argument left. She nodded reservedly, turned, and walked to the sofa to touch up her makeup.
After removing the mismatched wrist terminal and tucking it into her clutch, along with her lipstick and compact, Xu Chen stood up again and looked at Lin Xiangwan, who was sitting upright in her wheelchair, clearly ready. “Let’s go.”
The blush-pink hem of her gown brushed lightly against the ornate carpet as they entered the ballroom. The music, laughter, and swirling lights continued, but their arrival changed everything.
It was as if a spotlight had fallen on them. The crowd parted before the wheelchair, creating a clear path, while lingering gazes followed the blush-pink hem wherever it swept.
Xu Chen’s evening gown was a simple off-the-shoulder style. From the front, the lines of her neck, collarbones, shoulders, and arms were as exquisite as a work of art.
Not to mention her slender waist and long legs. Her graceful walk seemed to stir a gentle breeze, leaving many hearts itching with longing.
The wheelchair moved slowly, its pace gradually slowing further. This wasn’t due to any obstruction, but because Lin Xiangwan kept stopping to exchange pleasantries with people who greeted her.
Xu Chen watched Lin Xiangwan’s slightly upturned lips and the softened lines of her eyes, feeling like she had discovered something. She placed a hand on the back of Lin Xiangwan’s wheelchair, leaned in, and whispered, “You seem to be in a very good mood.”
“That’s right,” Lin Xiangwan replied, gazing into the distance. “And if nothing unexpected happens, it’ll get even better.”
Xu Chen followed her gaze. Through the crowd of smiling, chatting people, two conspicuously well-dressed figures stood staring at them. One’s face was tense, as if they were clenching their jaw; the other wore a smile, but it was stiff and unnatural.
“It’s such a perfect day. What could possibly go wrong?” Xu Chen’s eyes crinkled with genuine amusement, a novel sense of exhilaration bubbling in her chest.
She didn’t know what history she had with these two. Just as her intuition had led her to throw red wine on Lin Xiangwan, resulting in an unlimited black card, her instincts now told her to stir up trouble for them.
As someone with a poor memory, she relied heavily on her intuition. Since her instincts had guided her this far, and her life was only getting better, her intuition must be sound. If she wanted to do something, she should go for it without hesitation.
The two nimble-footed figures approached. The Alpha, whom Xu Chen remembered as Lu Xingye, greeted Lin Xiangwan first. “Sister, are you alright?”
Lin Xiangwan leaned back, her chin tilting slightly upward as she gazed at them through half-lidded eyes, her expression regal as if she were seated on a throne. “Quite well, as you can see. I’ve just met this… what was your name again?”
The Beta, whom Xu Chen recalled as Song Jinshi, seized the opportunity to interject. “Song Jinyu, my sister. She went missing years ago. Meeting her today is truly…”
Her expression seemed to strain for tears of emotion. Before the watery glint could fully form, Xu Chen quickly interrupted. “Don’t cry on such a happy day. Congratulations, though I don’t remember you, I still want to offer my best wishes.”
“You really don’t remember?” Song Jinshi asked, her gaze fixed on Xu Chen, her eyes radiating a carefully crafted warmth.
“I really don’t remember,” Xu Chen replied candidly, returning her gaze while subtly studying Lin Xiangwan’s features. Overall, she was quite attractive, with a very fashionable makeup style. But if Xu Chen looked away, she couldn’t quite recall what made her so striking.
“Jin—”
Lu Xingye began to speak, but Lin Xiangwan immediately cut her off. “Where’s Aunt Song?”
“Mother’s a bit tired and went back to rest,” Song Jinshi replied, activating her terminal to check the time. “She probably isn’t asleep yet. Shall we go visit her together?”
“No rush. We can talk about it later,” Lin Xiangwan said with a nearly gleeful smile, rising to her feet with the aid of the armrest.
In the sudden hush that fell over the room, amid the stunned gazes of the crowd, she extended a graceful hand to Xu Chen. “May I have this dance?”
Xu Chen knew exactly what to do. Her eyes widened slightly, and a flattered smile curved her lips. “CEO Lin, I can’t possibly be the first to have this honor, can I?”
Lin Xiangwan maintained her inviting posture and elegant gaze. “Indeed, you are.”
“Then I have no choice but to accept,” Xu Chen replied with a radiant smile, placing her clutch on the wheelchair and taking Lin Xiangwan’s hand.
Lin Xiangwan’s hand was harder and rougher than Xu Chen had imagined. Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Xu Chen couldn’t linger over the touch. Maintaining an elegant smile, she stepped onto the dance floor.
The music had just changed to a new piece. Perhaps it wasn’t a coincidence, but rather a reflection of the respect a multi-billionaire deserved—and the banquet hall’s band knew how to flatter their patrons.
As the soothing, melodious music filled the air, the pair began to dance.
Strictly speaking, Lin Xiangwan was responsible for the grace, while Xu Chen took charge of the actual dancing.
Xu Chen possessed exceptional dance skills. She couldn’t recall when she had learned them, but she knew she could dance most styles flawlessly. She could even dance circles around a wheelchair, creating a dazzling display.
To her credit, Lin Xiangwan cooperated well. She kept up with the rhythm and movements, though her steps were a bit small. Xu Chen compensated with occasional exaggerated flourishes.
Pink butterflies fluttered around Lin Xiangwan, her skirt and long hair swaying in elegant arcs. During quieter moments, the pair embraced closely, moving in slow, deliberate steps.
In terms of height, looks, poise, and attire, the two were a sight to behold—a truly perfect match.
As the music ended, thunderous applause erupted. Xu Chen leaned close to Lin Xiangwan’s ear, smiling. “CEO Lin, you don’t mind me stealing the spotlight, do you?”
Lin Xiangwan released her arm from around Xu Chen’s waist, but tightened her grip on their clasped hands. “That’s exactly what I wanted you to do. Stop acting coy.”
A new melody began. Xu Chen stepped back, still holding Lin Xiangwan’s hand, and guided her to her wheelchair.
The engaged couple remained standing nearby. Lu Xingye’s expression darkened further, the scent of incense around him growing more agitated. Song Jinshi, however, smiled sweetly. “I didn’t realize my sister danced so well.”
Lin Xiangwan nodded slightly in acknowledgment, released Xu Chen’s hand, and walked to her wheelchair. She picked up her handbag and settled into the chair with natural ease, showing no intention of handing the bag to Song Jinshi.
Xu Chen seemed oblivious, gazing at her legal sister with a clear, innocent look. “I danced well too. Why aren’t you praising me, Sister?”
“You’ve always been a good dancer since you were little.” Song Jinshi’s smile widened, but it was strained, her eyes narrowing into a mocking crescent. “Even with amnesia, you still remember how to dance. That proves you’re truly talented.”
Xu Chen continued to smile, as if they were in a fake smile competition where the first to stop would lose. “I don’t know,” she said. “As soon as the music started, I just felt like dancing. Maybe CEO Lin is a good teacher.”
CEO Lin, whose name had been mentioned, interjected with an ill-timed question, “Xiao Song, why are you gripping Xingye so tightly? Are you testing the reaction of your new prosthetic arm?”
Song Jinshi’s smile froze, and she withdrew from the fake smile competition in defeat. Lu Xingye’s face, already as dark as the bottom of a pot, now resembled something boiling over in a cauldron, hissing with anger that shot from his eyes. “This arm is real.”
Xu Chen’s fake smile had just transitioned into a genuine one, but she quickly switched to a look of sympathetic surprise. “Ah, is Sister-in-law using a prosthetic?”
“Yes,” Lu Xingye said, flinging Song Jinshi’s hand away. “After you went missing, my mother and CEO Lin’s mother went on a double date, and all four of them were involved in an accident. Why didn’t CEO Lin tell you why she’s in a wheelchair?”
Xu Chen studied Lu Xingye’s complex expression, sensing that old grudges were resurfacing amidst their new conflict. Song Jinshi, despite being shoved aside, showed no anger, merely watching the other three silently.
“No, she just said it didn’t affect her life and that she could still dance with me,” Xu Chen said cautiously, choosing to reveal only a partial truth.
Lin Xiangwan nodded dismissively. “That’s right. Now that we’ve danced, let’s go check on Aunt Song.”
Xu Chen glanced at Song Jinshi, who seemed lost in thought. “Sister, where is Aunt resting?”
Song Jinshi plastered on her perfect fake smile. “In her room. I’ll take you there.”
“No need. You two carry on,” Lin Xiangwan replied with a businesslike tone.
The woman in the wheelchair and her companion left the banquet hall, drawing stares from passersby and resentment from their rivals. In the quieter corridor, Xu Chen chuckled at the earlier scene.
“Hey, Boss,” she teased, “do you always talk like that? Chatting like you’re running a meeting?”
“Only with people I dislike. It’s deliberate,” Lin Xiangwan answered bluntly.
Xu Chen sensed something amiss. “But you sometimes talk to me like that too.”
“We just met. We’re not close yet,” Lin Xiangwan said tersely.
“Oh…” Xu Chen drawled, “So how do we get close?”
Lin Xiangwan raised a hand and rubbed her temples in exasperation.
“Seriously, Boss?” Xu Chen’s voice remained clingy, but her eyes sparkled with mischief. “You’re already tired of me? How heartbreaking.”
The wheelchair stopped abruptly. Xu Chen paused in surprise as Lin Xiangwan stared intently for a moment, then picked up her handbag and handed it to her. “Terminal.”
“How scary! I thought you were about to tell me to get lost,” Xu Chen complained playfully, pulling out the terminal. The new message was from Lin Xiangwan.
