Chapter 21: Are They Already Cooked Rice?!
“What’s wrong with you???” Yang Yuyang looked at him in alarm. Is there a zombie following him?
He was overthinking it. There was no zombie, only his second cousin, Mu Xun.
“Second Brother! You’re back!” Yang Yuyang happily stepped forward to hug him.
His second brother had been away studying recently, and he thought it would be at least a year or two before he saw him again.
Mu Xun hugged him briefly, then reached out and pinched his ear: “You’re only learning the bad things! Just like Mu Junyu!”
“Ouch, Second Brother, what did I do?” Yang Yuyang played innocent and begged for mercy, mentally reviewing his actions recently.
He hadn’t done anything bad.
You Wenchen stepped forward to rescue the poor lamb, shielding him behind himself: “Second Brother, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Mu Xun snorted coldly, showing no kindness to this suddenly appearing cousin-in-law.
He couldn’t be blamed. Mu Junyu had run off with a man without warning a while ago, and now his other younger cousin got married without a peep? As his elder brother, he was supposed to be kept in the loop!
There was a reason Si Li was afraid of him: back when they didn’t know each other, Si Li mistook him for a thug, gave him a good beating, and accidentally damaged one of his million-dollar paintings.
You Wenchen didn’t mind his cold shoulder and gently massaged Yang Yuyang’s reddened ear.
“You tell me what’s wrong. You didn’t even tell me you got married?!”
“Well, you were out of town at the time…”
“Being out of town means you don’t have to tell me? Even if I died, you should burn paper offerings to inform me.”
Yang Yuyang quickly spat to ward off bad luck: “Don’t say such unlucky things! Do you want me to tell Uncle Mu about you!”
It wasn’t that he didn’t respect Mu Xun; the key was that his marriage wasn’t voluntary. He did it initially to fend off marriage pressure, thinking he’d divorce eventually. He figured the less said, the better.
Mu Xun huffed in annoyance, his murderous gaze fixed on Si Li.
Si Li nervously hid behind Yang Yuyang, pretending to be invisible.
“Mom and Dad want you all to come home for dinner tonight.”
Mu Zicheng (Mu Xun’s father) wanted to properly meet You Wenchen.
“Oh, so it’s a dinner invitation. You should have said so earlier. Brother Miu is here; we’ll call him to come along.”
Mu Xun scoffed: “Don’t let him come, or I won’t be able to eat.”
Si Li bravely spoke up: “If my brother doesn’t go, I won’t go either! Don’t even think about hitting me!”
A grown man, why is he so petty?
Mu Xun glared at him.
In the evening, the whole extended family gathered for dinner. Not only were the Mu family members present, but Yang Yi (Yang Yuyang’s father) and Ou Huanhua (Yang Yuyang’s mother) were also there.
“Where is your aunt?” You Wenchen had specially brought several gifts for Ou Huanlian (Mu Zicheng’s wife and Yang Yuyang’s aunt).
Yang Yuyang rubbed his nose: “See that person behind the vase? That’s my aunt.”
You Wenchen turned back puzzledly. Through the gaps between the intertwined branches, he saw a pair of bright, shiny eyes. The moment those eyes saw him, they closed, as if he didn’t exist.
You Wenchen: …
Ou Huanlian and Ou Huanhua were biological sisters, highly similar in appearance but drastically different in personality.
Ou Huanhua was a career-driven strong woman who dared to shout her business on the street at age five and single-handedly took on over a dozen market vendors for a good spot at age seven.
Ou Huanlian, on the other hand, was severely socially anxious. She avoided leaving the house whenever possible, and when she did, she spoke as little as possible, using the shortest words necessary. When she gave birth to her child, Mu Zicheng even learned midwifery himself to prevent her from becoming too nervous to deliver when seeing a doctor.
With her husband’s doting, she rarely left the house, and her social anxiety only worsened. Now, she would hide whenever she saw a stranger.
Ou Huanhua cleared her throat: “Sis, what are you doing? Come out!”
Ou Huanlian trembled but refused to emerge.
Yang Yi, cracking sunflower seeds, laughed: “Sis, this is your nephew’s partner. He’s family, don’t be nervous.”
Ou Huanlian still wouldn’t come out. Eventually, Mu Zicheng personally brought her over, allowing You Wenchen to see her in full.
He had assumed she was unwell the last time he didn’t see her, but it turned out to be due to her social anxiety.
“Aunt, these are the gifts I prepared for you, a small token of my regard.” You Wenchen presented his gifts.
Ou Huanlian buried her face in Mu Zicheng’s back and weakly said: “Th-thank you.”
“…” Was he really that scary?
Mu Zicheng took the gifts: “She’s just like this; please don’t take it personally.”
You Wenchen smiled politely: “I understand. Everyone has a different personality.”
After brief pleasantries, Mu Zicheng began his interrogation of You Wenchen.
Of course, he wouldn’t interrogate him as openly as Ou Huanhua; instead, he subtly asked small questions, observing his reactions.
Yang Yuyang was nervous beside him. His uncle was a smiling tiger; one wrong answer could result in a low score.
Fortunately, You Wenchen was not easy to deal with and gave a perfect answer to every question.
Mu Zicheng nodded with satisfaction: “We’ve chatted enough; let’s eat. I just bought a good bottle of wine recently; everyone should try it.”
Chatting only goes so far. Character is revealed through drinking. With so many men in the house, he didn’t believe they couldn’t get You Wenchen drunk.
You Wenchen had already prepared for this. He had gotten tips from Si Miu and knew Mu Zicheng’s tactics.
He drank everything Mu Zicheng poured, and when he’d had enough, he started to pretend to be drunk.
Yang Yuyang was very worried: “Stop drinking, stop drinking.”
Mu Zicheng shot him a look: “What’s wrong with a grown man having some wine? Wenchen, let’s continue.”
You Wenchen’s eyes were unfocused, and he stiffly raised his glass: “Okay, continue!”
Si Miu took a sip of sake nearby. Excellent acting.
“Wenchen, Yangyang grew up under my watch. It’s no exaggeration to say he’s like another son to me. Being with him, you must not mistreat him.” Mu Zicheng’s tone was both playful and warning.
Yang Yuyang’s hands, under the table, were tightly clenched. He was terrified You Wenchen would say, “We’re just partners; I won’t necessarily be good to him.”
“Uncle, don’t worry. My feelings for Yangyang are no less than anyone else present. He is my everything; he is the person I cherish the most.” You Wenchen grasped Yang Yuyang’s hand, using the excuse of drunkenness to speak his true feelings.
Yang Yuyang felt his heart skip a beat and immediately lowered his head.
Was this the truth coming out while drunk, or just drunken nonsense?
Mu Zicheng filled his glass again: “You must remember what you said today. If you ever betray those words in the future, our two families won’t let you off the hook.”
You Wenchen downed the wine and suddenly stood up: “Don’t worry. If the day comes when I ever mistreat Yangyang, you can take a knife and castrate me, and I won’t resist.”
After saying this, he collapsed onto the table.
Yang Yuyang quickly held him: “Oh, no! I told you not to drink so much! Wenchen, Wenchen, are you okay?”
Mu Zicheng laughed and put down his glass: “It’s fine, he’s just drunk. Sons, help him upstairs to rest. You two will be staying here tonight.”
Yang Yuyang helped prop You Wenchen up: “I can help him myself.”
Si Miu voluntarily stepped forward: “I’ll help you carry him back.”
Yang Yuyang didn’t refuse, as his own strength was minimal, and he would have collapsed after just a few steps.
Mu Zicheng turned the conversation to Si Li: “Xiao Li, do you have a partner yet?”
Si Li’s gaze drifted: “Currently, no.”
Mu Zicheng stroked his chin: “Do you want to consider one of my sons? We could make the family ties even closer.”
His youngest son had already been ‘snatched’ by the Si family, so it was only fair to ‘snatch’ one back.
Si Li nervously sipped his orange juice: “My brothers are all excellent, but I don’t have any plans to date right now.”
Mu Junyu saw that he was clearly uncomfortable with the topic and quickly steered the conversation elsewhere, preventing Mu Zicheng from teasing him further.
Si Miu helped You Wenchen into the room and then left, giving him a chance to get close to the beauty while supposedly drunk.
Yang Yuyang went to the bathroom to wring out a few towels and came back to wipe his face: “I knew I shouldn’t have let you come today. Drinking so much.”
He set You Wenchen’s glasses aside, looking at him with concern. Drinking this much, he’s going to have a terrible headache tomorrow.
You Wenchen “slowly woke up” and met his gaze.
“You woke up so fast. How do you feel? Do you want to throw up?” Yang Yuyang helped him sit up, preparing to move the trash can closer for him.
You Wenchen felt nothing, only his face was very red, suggesting excessive drinking.
He leaned “powerlessly” on Yang Yuyang’s shoulder, lightly sniffing the scent on his neck.
Yang Yuyang had a sweet smell, like a freshly baked cupcake.
The little lamb, unaware he was being taken advantage of, foolishly rubbed his stomach: “Are you uncomfortable? Should I ask the aunt downstairs to make you something?”
Seeing You Wenchen remain silent, Yang Yuyang prepared to call the downstairs staff to prepare a hangover remedy.
You Wenchen didn’t want anyone to interrupt their private moment, quickly catching his hand, turning his leaning into a full hug.
“Yangyang.” You Wenchen’s lips neared Yang Yuyang’s ear. His voice was incredibly gentle, like a lover’s whisper.
Yang Yuyang felt strange. Even though he hadn’t been drinking, he felt slightly dizzy.
“I’m here. What is it?”
You Wenchen didn’t say what he wanted, simply repeating his name softly: “Yangyang, Yangyang.”
In fact, he had considered many ways to take advantage of the situation on the way upstairs—ways that wouldn’t arouse Yang Yuyang’s suspicion.
But when the opportunity finally came, he didn’t want to do anything; just holding him tightly was enough to bring him immense inner satisfaction.
Yang Yuyang didn’t show impatience, responding to him softly: “I’m here.”
You Wenchen whispered a silent word near his ear: “I really like you.”
“What did you say?” Yang Yuyang felt like he had said something, but he couldn’t hear clearly.
For a moment, You Wenchen truly wanted to confess. But the impulse was quickly held back by reason. Until he completely won Yang Yuyang’s heart, he couldn’t act rashly. If he scared him off, it would be much harder to win him back.
“I said, Yangyang is so beautiful. He’s the most beautiful little lamb I’ve ever seen.”
Yang Yuyang had heard praises like this countless times and was usually unfazed. But when he thought of You Wenchen saying it, he couldn’t help but entertain new thoughts.
He felt that he was good-looking, and his chances with You Wenchen were perhaps a little higher.
You Wenchen said a lot of sweet things while holding him. He wanted to continue, but then remembered Yang Yuyang hadn’t eaten much. Fearing his little lamb would be hungry, he pretended to fall asleep, giving him a chance to go down and eat.
Yang Yuyang gently helped him lie down on the bed. Changing clothes was impossible, so he could only use a towel to lightly wipe him down.
While wiping him, he admired You Wenchen’s face, liking him more the more he looked: “You look good. I’ll give you a chance: come chase me yourself.”
After saying this, he blushed himself. How shameless! Good thing You Wenchen is asleep and didn’t hear that.
What he didn’t know was that his casual remark nearly made You Wenchen lose his composure and sit up to kiss him.
Yang Yuyang was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he would do something like secretly kissing the handsome man, so he quickly left.
As soon as he left, You Wenchen opened his eyes, his large hands clenched into fists.
I should have taken things a step further just now! A missed opportunity!
When Yang Yuyang went downstairs, everyone was mostly done eating and had gone back to their rooms to shower and rest.
However, there was still plenty of food in the kitchen. Yang Yuyang quickly ate a few bites and walked into the small garden to aid digestion and sort out his feelings.
Although he had never dated, he was very clear about his current state of mind.
He had developed feelings for You Wenchen, and those feelings were increasing daily.
Perhaps it was a family trait—his family members liked to be direct—so Yang Yuyang didn’t want to secretly crush on someone.
If you like someone, go straight for them! If you succeed, you win. Even if you fail, at least you tried.
The problem now was that he didn’t know how to pursue someone. Especially a well-traveled big boss like You Wenchen; he must have been pursued by many people, and since he hadn’t fallen for anyone yet, it proved that ordinary attempts wouldn’t move him.
He has to be creative!
Just as he was pondering what to do, he suddenly heard strange noises coming from the small garden.
“What are you doing? Get away from me.”
It was Si Li’s voice.
Yang Yuyang pricked up his ears. Who was Si Li talking to? The security guards were all around this area; surely no bad person could have sneaked in.
“You’re just going to leave like that without saying goodbye?”
To his shock, the other person was Mu Xun.
Yang Yuyang’s gossip instincts flared up, and he hid behind a large tree to eavesdrop.
“I didn’t leave without saying goodbye. I texted you.”
“Then why did you block me?”
“I… Who told you to scold me that day?”
“When did I scold you? Am I scolding you by telling you not to eat fried chicken?” Mu Xun was almost amused.
Si Li pouted: “You said my ‘little trash can’ only likes to eat junk food.”
“You said that about yourself! I was just repeating it!”
“Well, I don’t care; you still scolded me.”
Mu Xun, unable to reason with him, simply went up and kissed him.
Yang Yuyang’s eyes widened at the sound of the contact. My God, those two actually… When did this happen???
He knew Mu Xun and Si Li had a feud due to a misunderstanding, but he never expected the feud to turn into an engagement (figuratively).
Si Li’s lips were sore from the kiss, and he unhappily pushed him away: “Stop kissing! What if my brother sees us?”
“Why can’t he see us? He can kiss my brother; why can’t I kiss his brother?”
Si Li said faintly: “You sound like you’re only kissing me to get back at my brother.”
Mu Xun really wanted to open his head and see what was inside: “Can’t you stop thinking about melodramatic comics just because you draw them?”
Why would I need to do that?
Si Li insisted stubbornly: “I don’t care. You’re under suspicion. You’re not allowed to mess around until you clear yourself.”
Mu Xun didn’t give him a chance, trapping him in his arms: “When are you going to marry me?”
“Hey! You’re asking me to marry you without even proposing! Isn’t that too much?”
He was waiting for Mu Xun’s romantic proposal, but he skipped straight to marriage.
And so casually, without even a ring. He definitely wouldn’t agree!
Mu Xun softened his tone: “Whatever kind of proposal you want, I can prepare it for you.”
“If I tell you what to prepare, it loses sincerity.”
Mu Xun was on the verge of being driven crazy by this moody little imp. What exactly does he want?
“Xiao Li, the reason I haven’t proposed is not because I don’t value you; it’s because I was afraid you’d run off again.”
Si Li looked like he’d be easy to fool, but he was like a little genius when it came to relationships.
Si Li argued confidently: “We aren’t even officially together, so what does my running away have to do with you?”
Mu Xun frowned: “How are we not together? The raw rice is already cooked (a Chinese idiom for consummation). What if your genes mutate and you’re carrying my child? Do you still want to marry me while heavily pregnant?”
Si Li: …
He has the nerve to call my comics melodramatic. I think Mu Xun’s mind is the most dramatic.
Yang Yuyang covered his mouth. No way, they’re already at the ‘cooked rice’ stage?!
