Chapter 22: The Scheming Little Lamb
“Why are you staring at me? I’m selling my art, not my body. Wait, I’m selling my body, not my art… No, selling my art, not my body.” (A Chinese idiom often used in an ironic or self-deprecating way about one’s value).
Si Li was getting goosebumps from Yang Yuyang’s constant staring. They were supposed to discuss the details of the cosplay this morning, but Yang Yuyang just kept staring without saying anything.
Yang Yuyang rested his chin on one hand, asking with a slight smile: “Let me ask you a question. Have you ever dated anyone?”
“No!” Si Li quickly denied it.
“Is that so?” Yang Yuyang nodded, pretending to believe him.
“Why are you asking that? Are you setting me up with someone?” Si Li looked at him suspiciously. What is this guy up to?
Yang Yuyang shook his head: “Not exactly. I just wanted to ask if you know any suitable single friends.”
“You already have Brother Wenchen. Are you thinking of cheating?”
“You’re the one cheating! I want to set up my Second Brother.”
Si Li’s expression froze: “Mu Xun?”
“Mhm. Do I have another Second Brother?” Yang Yuyang watched his reaction playfully.
Si Li took a sip of the milk tea in front of him, his eyes darting away: “Why set him up? Shouldn’t you deal with your Eldest Brother first?”
Mu family’s eldest son was still single.
“No need to worry about Eldest Brother. With his charisma, he’s definitely not lacking in admirers.”
“You make it sound like Mu Xun has no prospects.”
“It’s not that he has no prospects, but Second Brother is quite picky. You know, people who study art are often a bit strange. The family wants to settle him down while he’s still young. If they wait too long, it’ll be even harder for him to find someone.”
Si Li mumbled an “oh.”
Yang Yuyang continued to provoke him: “Right, the family is planning to introduce Second Brother to some blind date prospects. Do you want to help vet them?”
Si Li shot up instantly: “What blind date prospects? Does Mu Xun even know about this?”
“Of course, he knows. He fully supports it. By the way, why are you so agitated?” Yang Yuyang could barely contain the smile on his face. Si Li’s acting was terrible.
Si Li, who was trying to play it cool, now had a flushed face and wanted to devour Mu Xun alive.
He said he wanted to be with me last night, and now he’s going on a blind date?
Yang Yuyang cleared his throat and opened his phone’s photo album: “Let me show you the other person’s photo. Give me your opinion.”
Si Li suppressed his anger: “Let me see.”
He wanted to see what kind of monster the competition was!
Yang Yuyang tapped on the image—it was the photo he had secretly taken in the small garden yesterday.
Si Li immediately froze: “You… you saw that!”
“Why else would I bring up this topic? Good for you two, hiding it so well.” Yang Yuyang reached out and pinched his cheek.
Si Li quickly urged him to put the phone away: “You haven’t told anyone else, have you?”
“No. You don’t have to be so nervous; we’re family. We won’t eat you alive.”
Si Li looked distressed: “It’s precisely because we’re family that I’m afraid. How awkward would it be if we broke up?”
Yang Yuyang looked serious: “You’re thinking about breaking up before you’ve even officially started dating. Don’t you like Second Brother?”
“It’s not that I don’t like him; I just haven’t figured things out yet.”
His brother always handled all the major events in his life, but he didn’t dare tell him about this one.
“What exactly is going on between you two? Didn’t you have a falling out before?” Yang Yuyang spent all night trying to figure out how they got together.
He remembered Mu Xun hating the two Si brothers and had even cursed them out twice in front of him. How did they become a couple in less than three months?
Si Li scratched his face: “During my brother’s wedding with Mumu, we all drank too much, and then… Afterward, we agreed to pretend nothing happened, but he just happened to come to our base to study comics, and then we… just inexplicably hit it off.”
Once that line was crossed, no one could truly pretend nothing happened. The atmosphere during private interactions would naturally be ambiguous, and one thing led to another, resulting in an official relationship.
Yang Yuyang rubbed his chin: “Did you chase him, or did he chase you?”
Si Li blushed: “He definitely chased me, but he’s so clumsy. He messed up every time, and I had to step in.”
Mu Xun’s taste in things was always different from the norm. For instance, when others sent roses, he sent a handmade clay skull, claiming that the skull he personally molded was absolutely perfect.
He also insisted on delivering it at midnight, believing it was a romantic time. Si Li opened the door late at night, saw a skull staring at him, and nearly wet himself.
Yang Yuyang folded his hands: “So how did you chase him?”
Time to learn some relationship-building tips to use on You Wenchen later.
Si Li was haughty: “I didn’t chase him!”
“Okay, okay, you didn’t. Just tell me.”
“A little beauty seduction, then some acting cute and charming.”
And then I got [censored] again, and our relationship progressed further.
For the sake of his pride, Si Li didn’t say the last part.
“Specifically, how did the beauty seduction go?” Yang Yuyang’s eyes were full of curiosity.
Si Li thought he was just being gossipy: “Wear something intentionally suggestive, like accidentally letting your shirt slip down—show off a shoulder. Or wear short shorts and wander around in front of him, looking innocent.”
Yang Yuyang’s expression grew suggestive: “Isn’t that a plot from your comic? So you’re a realist writer.”
Si Li turned his head away shyly: “You just know about it; don’t tell my brother or the others. We’ll talk about it once our relationship is settled.”
“Don’t worry, my lips are sealed. I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
One of Yang Yuyang’s strengths was being tight-lipped. He still hadn’t told anyone that his dad was once scared by a caterpillar until he cried.
…
Back home, he skipped dinner and ran straight to his closet to pull out all his sexy clothes.
His everyday clothes were very ordinary—just white tees and jeans. The cosplay outfits were a bit too exaggerated. Si Li said it needed to look unintentional to have an effect.
After searching for a long time, Yang Yuyang found a cosplay outfit that could double as sleepwear. The top was very short, and the shorts were also very short, but that was exactly the effect he wanted!
Yang Yuyang changed into it and admired himself in the mirror for half an hour. Hearing You Wenchen’s car pull up downstairs, he quickly ran back to his room to pretend to be asleep.
“Auntie, where’s Yangyang?”
“He’s asleep upstairs. Dinner will be ready soon. Go call him down.”
You Wenchen walked to Yang Yuyang’s door and gently knocked: “Yangyang, are you awake?”
Yang Yuyang had purposely left the door ajar. When he knocked, the door simply swung open.
You Wenchen lowered his voice: “Yangyang?”
Yang Yuyang pretended to be just waking up, sitting up and rubbing his eyes: “You’re back.”
The thin sheet slipped off his body, revealing his slender, easily grasped white waist.
