Chapter 6: Dad, Feel Free to Ask Me Anything You Don’t Understand.
The next day, Yang Yuxiang slept until noon and still couldn’t get up. Drowsily hugging his little sheep pillow, he rolled from the head of the bed to the foot. Just as he was about to fall off, a pair of strong hands caught him.
Yang Yuxiang opened his eyes, his voice soft and muffled: “You haven’t gone to work yet?”
You Wenchen gently pushed him back onto the bed, “I came home after work.”
He used to take his lunch break at the company, but now with a pampered husband at home, he decisively rushed back.
Yang Yuxiang propped himself up with the little sheep pillow. His hair was a mess, and his pajamas had slipped to the side, exposing half a shoulder.
You Wenchen pursed his lips, choosing the latter between being a gentleman and indulging his eyes.
“I remember when I woke up just now it was only 8 o’clock. How is it already 12?” The clueless Yang Yuxiang rubbed his eyes, then suddenly remembered: “My sons haven’t eaten yet!” (Referring to his cats).
You Wenchen said: “The helper fed them.”
“That’s good.”
Yang Yuxiang flopped back down. He really couldn’t live alone; he would not only starve himself but also likely starve his cats.
“Where are your parents?”
“They also left this morning.”
“That’s good, I’ll go back to sleep then.” Since he had already slept until noon, he might as well combine his morning and afternoon naps.
“No, you didn’t have breakfast, you at least need lunch.” You Wenchen pulled him up by the arm.
Yang Yuxiang yawned, feeling he shouldn’t be too lazy in someone else’s house, and obediently went to brush his teeth and wash his face.
When he came downstairs for lunch, the staff working were smiling at him.
Yang Yuxiang touched his face and quietly asked You Wenchen: “Do I have something on my face?”
“No, why?”
“Then why are they all looking at me and smiling?”
You Wenchen smiled without answering.
Yang Yuxiang knew the answer when he sat down, as the helper brought up a nourishing soup and gently chided You Wenchen: “Wenchen, you can’t always bully the child. Yàngyáng, drink more soup, it’s good for your health.”
Yang Yuxiang understood. They had misunderstood again.
He didn’t explain. After thanking the helper, he offered half the soup to You Wenchen: “You must be tired too, have some.”
You Wenchen pressed down on his hand: “I’m not tired, you drink it all. You slept so late, you need the nourishment.”
The staff smiled knowingly. Young people certainly have a lot of energy.
Yang Yuxiang blushed as he drank the soup, then suddenly realized something else.
“Why does everyone think you’re the one bullying me, and not me bullying you?”
You Wenchen, who was peeling shrimp for him, gently countered: “What do you think?”
Given the difference in their physiques, even if You Wenchen gave Yang Yuxiang a chance, Yang Yuxiang might not succeed.
Yang Yuxiang rubbed his chin, pondering: “Is it because I look more honest?”
“Perhaps.” You Wenchen still couldn’t bear to hurt his feelings.
“Are you going to stream at the company this afternoon?”
Yang Yuxiang shook his head: “It’s the kids’ final exams recently. I won’t stream to avoid distracting them. I’ll stream after the exams.”
“That’s thoughtful of you.”
“Of course.” The truth was, he almost got strung up on the balcony and beaten by his mom for watching a stream during his own final exams when he was younger. To prevent those kids from going through the same thing, he decided to take a few days off.
You Wenchen placed a tender, delicious shrimp into his bowl: “Then, do you want to come to the main company with me this afternoon?”
“Which company?”
“The main headquarters.” Where he usually works.
Yang Yuxiang nodded: “Sure, sure. But will I be a bother and interfere with your work if I come along?”
“Of course not. If you don’t come, and I go alone, Dad will complain again that I left you alone at home.”
Yang Yuxiang agreed: “Then I can go with you these next few days. Just find me a lounge to play on my phone.”
Since he’d be playing on his phone anyway, the location didn’t matter.
“Not tomorrow. We have to go back to your parents’ home, the ‘Hui Men’ visit. Did you forget?”
Yang Yuxiang was confused: “What is ‘Hui Men’? Which door are we returning to?” (Note: Hui Men is the traditional visit to the bride’s parents’ home a few days after the wedding.)
“It’s going back to your parents’ place. It’s usually on the third day after marriage.”
He suddenly understood: “Oh, I remember that custom. No experience this time, but I’ll definitely remember next time.”
“…” He wanted a next time?
After lunch, the two played with the kittens in the living room for a while before heading to the company.
When the car stopped at the company entrance, Yang Yuxiang couldn’t help but exclaim: “Wow, it’s so grand.”
It was much grander than his family’s company. His mom always refused to redecorate, believing simplicity was key. This is what a big company should look like!
After handing the keys to the security guard, You Wenchen placed his hand on Yang Yuxiang’s waist and whispered: “There are many elders in the company who know my dad, so…”
Yang Yuxiang instantly got into character, linking his arm through You Wenchen’s and said sweetly: “Hubby, let’s go.”
You Wenchen couldn’t hide his smile and contentedly put his arm around him as they walked in.
There were many employees standing by the elevator. Upon seeing him walk in with Yang Yuxiang, they immediately started flattering them.
“President Chen is truly blessed. Madam is so beautiful.”
Yang Yuxiang leaned slightly on You Wenchen, sweetly saying: “Just call me Yàngyáng.”
The word ‘Madam’ sounded strange.
“We wouldn’t dare. We’ll call you Brother Yáng.”
“That’s fine. The elevator is here, do you want to come up?” Yang Yuxiang invited them.
They all immediately stepped back: “No, no, we’re going to get coffee.”
That was the CEO’s exclusive elevator; how dare they ride it?
After the elevator door closed, they finally relaxed and started discussing in low voices.
“President Chen actually chose this type.”
“What’s wrong? I think he looks cute.”
“It’s not that he’s not good-looking, it’s that he’s too young. You know President Chen’s nickname is the ‘Old Fox.’ I thought he would find someone equally cunning, or at least prefer a mature type.”
“True. This little brother looks too innocent. He’d probably help count the money even if he were sold.”
Yang Yuxiang, unaware of who his partner was, was pleasantly surprised upon entering You Wenchen’s office: “Wow, you actually fulfilled my dream.”
“What dream?”
“Installing a swing chair and a snack bucket by the floor-to-ceiling window!” He could eat snacks while enjoying the view outside. He always wanted to install one in his mom’s office, but every suggestion resulted in a slap across the back of the head.
You Wenchen was also happy looking at his starry eyes: “I’m glad you like it.”
“I love it. You have great taste.”
“Then you sit here and play. Call me if you need anything.” Afraid he would get bored playing on his phone, You Wenchen had also set up a computer for him, with all his favorite games on the desktop.
Yang Yuxiang genuinely thought he could read minds. How could he know his preferences so clearly?
You Wenchen didn’t have mind-reading abilities, but he had the power of money. He bought Yang Yuxiang’s preferences from his cousin for ten thousand yuan a piece.
Yang Yuxiang played games and ate snacks, and the afternoon quickly passed.
He took off his headphones, looking at the orange-yellow sunset outside the floor-to-ceiling window, and instinctively wanted to share it with the person next to him. Turning his head, he found You Wenchen staring at him. His expression was gentle, and his eyes seemed to hold only his existence.
Yang Yuxiang’s heart skipped a beat, and he felt an indescribable emotion.
You Wenchen, caught staring, calmly smiled: “I just finished work. I wanted to ask you to eat together.”
So that was it. Yang Yuxiang didn’t overthink it, enthusiastically waving at him: “It’s so beautiful outside, come and look.”
You Wenchen walked to his side. The sunset viewed from a high-rise was indeed beautiful, but no matter how beautiful the sunset was, it couldn’t compare to the person next to him.
Yang Yuxiang pressed his hands against the window: “When I was little, I loved watching the sunset on the balcony with Mom and Dad. It was so pretty.”
“And when you grew up?”
“My dad and mom would start kissing, and I’d be standing there alone, feeling helpless, so I stopped watching with them.” When he was little, they at least tried to be mindful of his feelings, but ever since Yang Yuxiang got a little older, his dad became completely brazen.
You Wenchen smiled: “Then, from now on, I’ll watch it with you instead of them.”
Yang Yuxiang glanced at him sideways: “You want to replace my Mom and Dad? No way. You’re only six or seven years older than me. You can be a brother at most, not a parent.”
“…” He actually wanted to be his husband.
After watching the sunset, You Wenchen took him to a luxury store and bought a lot of gold and jewelry. They were all picked according to Ou Huanhua’s taste. As for Yang Yi, Yang Yuxiang suggested he just buy a twenty-yuan box of chess. After careful consideration, You Wenchen bought a box of pure gold chess pieces worth hundreds of thousands.
“Didn’t we already give them gifts? Do we have to give them more for the visit?” Yang Yuxiang looked at the car full of gifts and didn’t dare calculate how much it cost.
You Wenchen started the car: “We must bring gifts for the ‘Hui Men’ visit.”
He still felt it was too little and worried Ou Huanhua wouldn’t be satisfied.
“My mom advocates for simplicity. You don’t need to give so much.”
You Wenchen rarely refuted him: “It’s a good thing that my mother-in-law advocates for simplicity, but I should still show my sincerity.”
Whether they take it is one thing; whether he gives it is another.
Yang Yuxiang had nothing to say. He could only clench his fists mentally. He must cooperate with You Wenchen and play his part well, leaving no flaws!
The Yang family was also preparing their gifts.
“Couldn’t we just give our son a box of Chinese Checkers? Why do we need any other gift?” Yang Yi was lying on the sofa playing Dou Dizhu (Fight the Landlord). They were truly father and son; their gift ideas were so similar.
Ou Huanhua kicked him: “Who said I’m preparing for him? I’m preparing for the You family.”
In the past few days, they had not only received gifts from the You family but also business favors. Ou Huanhua hadn’t calculated the exact amount, but she guessed the total value of these things easily exceeded one hundred million yuan.
“Stop playing and come pick them out!”
Yang Yi immediately ended his game and scrambled up to his wife: “So many?”
“Yes, to subtly return the favor.”
She didn’t like owing people, nor did she want to feel obligated, which would put her son at a disadvantage in the You family. Their family simply preferred simplicity; they weren’t incapable of reciprocating.
Yang Yi considered this and offered his opinion: “Wife, I understand you’re afraid Yàngyáng will be gossiped about for taking too much from them. But the You family seems to have good character, so that shouldn’t happen. Besides, if they cared about the return gift, they wouldn’t have given so much in the first place. They are intentionally trying to befriend us, so we shouldn’t draw such a clear line.”
It was right to exchange gifts, but being overly strict about repayment spoiled the meaning.
Ou Huanhua knew her approach wasn’t ideal, but she worried her son might compromise himself because of these gifts.
“We’ll observe them a bit longer. If they truly dare to bully Yàngyáng, we’ll throw the gifts back in their faces. For tomorrow, we’ll temporarily choose a few items to show our sincerity. The most important thing is to be warm and make Wenchen feel that we accept him.”
“Alright.” Ou Huanhua listened to him.
Yang Yi kissed her, then suddenly slapped his thigh: “There’s one more important gift I need to give them tomorrow.”
“What gift?”
“You’ll know tomorrow. I also need to have a private chat with Yàngyáng tomorrow.”
What could be so mysterious that they need to chat alone?
The next day, Yang Yuxiang and You Wenchen arrived at the Yang family home with a carload of gifts, so many that several helpers were needed to carry them.
Ou Huanhua didn’t know how to react: “Why did you buy so many things again?”
You Wenchen’s attitude was excellent: “I took the Mother-in-law’s darling away, so I should definitely offer some gifts in return.”
“Darling? He’s more like a block of pork head meat.” Teasing Yang Yuxiang was one of Yang Yi’s few pleasures.
Yang Yuxiang chased after him. The father and son ran into the small garden where Yang Yi stopped and cleared his throat very seriously: “There are some things I need to talk to you about seriously, to prevent you from being taken advantage of.”
“What things?”
“This topic is a bit sensitive, and I’ve been too embarrassed to bring it up before. But now that you’re married, you’ll have to understand it sooner or later. Boys need to protect themselves when they’re out there!”
Yang Yuxiang knew what he wanted to talk about.
Yang Yi was actually quite embarrassed, but as a father, he had to educate his child. His Yàngyáng was so innocent; he probably didn’t know anything: “So now, let’s talk about some basic s-e-x knowledge.”
Yang Yuxiang nodded: “Okay. Dad, if there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me.”
“???”
