Stealing Moonlight (Lily ABO) - Chapter 17
“To Weizhou Train Station! Two people!”
There was no queue at the long-distance bus station ticket counter. Everyone was jostling together, pushing forward by whatever means they could. Pickpockets also took advantage of the chaos, and every now and then, sharp cries echoed through the crowd.
“Who stole my money, that’s my life-saving money!”
But no matter how tragic, no one paid attention, and the cries were quickly drowned out by the bustling noise. Nothing could be heard anymore.
Ruan Jing was also jostled awkwardly. She was stepped on several times and narrowly dodged two elbow jabs. Finally, she found an opportunity. Using her height and long arms, she reached directly over several bobbing heads, handed her money to the impatient ticket seller, and shouted.
“What’s all this shouting for?! Do you have no manners? You’re so loud it’s killing me!”
The ticket seller was a female Beta, probably around Ruan Jing’s age. She wore a large red silk scarf around her neck, and her two braids were tied with matching red ribbons.
“…You’re going to the train station?” she asked, lazily lifting her eyelids and glancing at Ruan Jing.
“Yes, the train station.” Ruan Jing gave her a careful smile and pushed the money closer. “Thank you, comrade.”
The ticket seller glanced at her again. This time, a hint of a smile finally appeared on her face as she took the money.
After getting her ticket and change, Ruan Jing planned to find Li Ling’er. But after struggling to squeeze out of the crowd, she found Li Ling’er gracefully standing not far away, waiting for her with her bundle.
“College student, you’ve worked hard!”
Li Ling’er greeted her with a beaming smile, diligently smoothing Ruan Jing’s dacron shirt collar, which had been crumpled and twisted from the jostling. Then, she squatted down and used her handkerchief to wipe Ruan Jing’s cloth shoes, making Ruan Jing take two steps back in alarm.
“What are you doing?” Ruan Jing’s face was full of caution. She had stumbled twice because of Li Ling’er, and now, no matter what Li Ling’er did, she felt she had ulterior motives.
“What could I be doing!” Li Ling’er pouted playfully. She leaned close to Ruan Jing, actually trying to link arms with her.
Ruan Jing’s first reaction was to push her away immediately. But just as she raised her hand, Li Ling’er, her voice trembling, whispered in her ear, “College student, I’m scared.”
“You’re scared?” Ruan Jing almost laughed at Li Ling’er’s trembling appearance. “You actually get scared? There are so many people here, what’s there to be afraid of…”
Ruan Jing had only said half her sentence when she suddenly understood.
It was rare for an unmarked Omega to wander around outside these days, especially in a chaotic place like a bus station. Li Ling’er currently had no hint of an Alpha’s pheromones on her. Here, she was like a bleating lamb dropped into a pack of hungry wolves.
“Serves you right!” These three words popped straight into Ruan Jing’s mind.
Her anger hadn’t subsided. Ruan Jing’s nose was a bit too sensitive; her face was almost chafed raw from rubbing it herself, but the musky smell of the white fluid still lingered before her nose.
“This is your retribution for tricking me earlier, and it’s instant karma!”
Ruan Jing couldn’t help but whisper this into Li Ling’er’s ear. Li Ling’er stiffened upon hearing it. Just when she thought Ruan Jing was going to seize the opportunity for revenge, the sweet-bitter wheat seedling scent enveloped her tightly. The various male Alpha pheromones, with their ill intent and tentative, teasing tendrils, were ruthlessly driven away. Ruan Jing then coldly and slowly scanned her surroundings, overtly warning the restless Alphas.
“…Oh, so she’s taken. Then why isn’t she marked already, is something wrong?!”
Li Ling’er heard a young male Alpha, who had just differentiated, grumble behind her. However, he still sensibly reined in his pheromones.
Most Alphas thought the same: an unmarked Omega was rare, but since she was taken, if they truly wanted to compete, they’d have to face her directly with pheromone concentration. Ruan Jing’s recently released pheromone concentration wasn’t low; it was on par with an average male Alpha, so it was hard to say who would win. However, there were still those consumed by lust, who would rise to the challenge regardless.
