Stealing My Ex's White Moonlight - Chapter 25
Lin Yuan’s shout completely stunned Lin Huanhuan. If Cousin Wanqing can scold me, fine, but what right do you have to yell at me?
She immediately retorted, “Lin Yuan, are you crazy? Why are you shouting? Do I owe you anything?!”
Lin Yuan’s temples throbbed at his idiot sister’s antics. His tone was sharp: “Lin Huanhuan, do you even realize what you’re doing?!”
Lin Huanhuan retorted indignantly, “What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with disciplining Cousin Wanqing’s little follower? What did I do wrong? Why are you yelling at me so loudly?”
Hearing this, Lin Yuan’s anger surged. His eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets as he spat, “Who do you think you are? What right do you have?! Miss Lin’s people are none of your business to discipline!”
Lin Huanhuan, being younger and a girl, had taken advantage of their distant familial connection to call Lin Wanqing “Cousin.”
Lin Yuan, despite being a senior executive at the Lin Family’s Xinguang Entertainment Company, could only address Lin Wanqing as “Miss Lin” with utmost respect.
His education and capabilities had reached their limit; further advancement seemed impossible. Moreover, their aging grandmother’s passing would completely sever their tenuous, snow-flake-thin ties to the Lin Family.
Lin Huanhuan’s academic performance was poor, landing her in a second-rate university. However, her looks and figure were decent. Through Lin Yuan’s maneuvering, she had successfully secured a role acting alongside Lin Wanqing.
Lin Yuan had hoped to foster a good relationship between Lin Huanhuan and Lin Wanqing, believing it would smooth his own career path.
But what was his foolish sister doing? “Disciplining” Miss Lin?
Disciplining Miss Lin?!
Lin Yuan’s lungs nearly burst with rage. The thought of her wasting her time on such idiotic schemes left him breathless.
Lin Huanhuan’s temper flared. “Why shouldn’t I? What makes me unqualified? She doesn’t know the rules. What’s wrong with teaching her how things work?”
By now, Lin Yuan had regained his composure. He sneered, “Just because you call Miss Lin ‘Cousin Wanqing’ doesn’t make her your cousin. Have you forgotten your place?”
“But…” Lin Huanhuan began to retort, but her voice faltered. She wasn’t stupid; she had simply lost herself in Lin Wanqing’s shadow. Lin Yuan’s sharp question jolted her back to reality.
His tone softened. “Tell me everything from the beginning.”
After hearing her account, Lin Yuan gripped his phone tightly, kicked a trash can across the room, and spat out a curse: “Fvck!”
“Lin Huanhuan, you’re really something.”
Lin Huanhuan finally grasped the gravity of the situation, though her voice remained stiff. “It’s done. What do you want me to do now?”
“I don’t care how you do it—cry, kneel, beg for forgiveness. Just get her to forgive you. Otherwise, you’re dead.”
Lin Huanhuan’s face immediately brightened. “I thought it was a bigger deal. Cousin Wanqing will definitely forgive me.”
Lin Yuan thought he’d misheard. “Miss Lin?”
“Yes, Brother. Don’t worry. Cousin Wanqing is so good to me. I’ll just sweet-talk her, and she’ll forgive me right away.”
Before she could finish, a roar erupted from the receiver: “Lin Huanhuan! Is your brain filled with sh1t?! You think this isn’t a big deal?!”
Lin Huanhuan was stunned by the outburst. “But didn’t you tell me to beg her for forgiveness?”
“I told you to go to that little lackey!”
Lin Huanhuan instinctively recoiled. “Why would I go to her? I’m not going!”
“Then you can just go back to Lin Family Village.”
The thought of the remote, desolate Lin Family Village sent a shiver down Lin Huanhuan’s spine. But begging that little lackey? She couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“Wouldn’t going to Cousin Wanqing be the same?”
Lin Yuan sneered. “Going to Miss Lin? You’ll be dead before you can even explain yourself. Begging? You think you’re someone special?”
“You really think spending a little time with Miss Lin, doing some trivial tasks, makes you one of her people?”
“Let me tell you, you’re nothing!”
Lin Yuan ruthlessly shattered Lin Huanhuan’s bubble of fantasy. Her face flushed with anger, but the thought of humbling herself to apologize to that lowly assistant choked her with resentment.
“That assistant is just a lowly worker. Why should I apologize to her?”
“Because she’s Miss Lin’s person!”
“Someone like her doesn’t deserve to stand beside Cousin Wanqing, let alone receive her attention. If Grandpa Lin finds out about this, he’ll…”
Lin Yuan roared, “Shut up!”
Was it not enough that Miss Lin had already been disturbed by this trivial matter? Did she want to drag the entire Lin Family into it?
By now, Lin Yuan understood his foolish sister’s motives: she wanted the Lin Family to discipline that “arrogant assistant who dared to dream of climbing into Miss Lin’s bed.”
Damn it.
When had she become so naive, arrogant, and self-righteous?
Had she forgotten that without their grandmother’s connections, they would never have had any ties to the Lin Family in a thousand lifetimes? Yet here she was, presuming to interfere in the Lin Family’s affairs and questioning Miss Lin’s actions?
Wasn’t that a blatant insult to the Lin Family’s dignity?
Lin Yuan suppressed his fury. “Lin Huanhuan, listen to me: even if Miss Lin hires a thousand or ten thousand assistants, it has nothing to do with you! You have no right to meddle in her affairs!”
“Why not? Because Miss Lin protects her!”
“Just because Miss Lin likes her!”
“Damn it, Lin Huanhuan! If you’re so capable, make Miss Lin like you too! If not, apologize to her!”
“Or you can just wait to die!”
Lin Huanhuan stared blankly at her phone, Lin Yuan’s words—”Just because Miss Lin protects her! Just because Miss Lin likes her!”—crashing heavily into her heart.
So, Cousin Wanqing was angry because she liked her?
Chang Bing called her several times before she snapped out of her daze.
“Sister Huanhuan, the Director’s calling you.”
The night breeze was cool.
Shi Mi brushed the sticky strands of hair from Lin Wanqing’s forehead. “Take off your clothes. It’s too hot.”
“Okay,” Lin Wanqing replied obediently, opening her arms and waiting for Shi Mi to help her undress.
Shi Mi smiled. Ancient costumes were notoriously complex. She reached for Lin Wanqing’s cloud collar, untied her long outer robe, revealing the inner layers of a middle robe and an undergarment.
Lin Wanqing immediately felt much cooler. She kicked off her shoes. “I’m not wearing these anymore either. It’s too hot.”
“Mm-hmm,” Shi Mi hummed in agreement. With one hand carrying the heavy outer robe, cloud collar, and cloth shoes, she supported Lin Wanqing’s bottom with the other, her steps steady.
Lin Wanqing wrapped her arms around Shi Mi’s neck, resting her head against her back, her pale feet dangling rhythmically.
Shi Mi felt like she was carrying a giant heater on her back, her entire back warm and almost burning.
The evening breeze brought a hint of coolness, and under the streetlights, their shadows merged into a single dark mass.
Lin Wanqing playfully tugged at Shi Mi’s hair. “I remember back in high school when I went to your house to help harvest rice. Everyone was already on the field ridges, calling for me, but my foot got stuck in the mud. I couldn’t pull it out no matter what I tried, and I was so panicked I almost cried.”
Shi Mi’s lips curved into a gentle smile as she recalled that time, her eyes softening with warmth.
“You saw me, walked over without a word, and crouched down, saying, ‘I’ll carry you across.'”
“What about my boots?” Shi Mi asked.
“You coolly replied, ‘Forget them.'”
Shi Mi tilted her head. “Hmm? What’s this about? Did you start liking me back then?”
Lin Wanqing playfully punched her shoulder. “Who said I liked you! It’s just… seeing this scene brought back memories. I wanted to ask you, just… just… did you feel anything?”
Shi Mi chuckled softly. “A pampered young lady who’s never lifted a finger insists on helping me harvest rice. Of course I took good care of her! If anything had happened, her family would have come after me. Ah, what would I have done…”
“Ah, you really thought that? I thought… I thought… you were just being nice to me because of that? Ah, you’re so annoying!”
Shi Mi lifted Lin Wanqing slightly by her hips, tilting her head to look at her. “Well, what else could it be? It’s not like I fell in love with you at first sight, thinking I’d marry you even if the sky fell.”
Lin Wanqing reacted a beat late, catching the hidden meaning in her words, a sweet warmth spreading through her heart. “I’m so beautiful, you must have fallen for me instantly.”
Shi Mi chuckled softly. “Yes, that’s exactly what happened.”
Suddenly, the System’s voice chimed in: “Ding! Host, be warned! If Heaven’s Dao detects your interference with the storyline, you will be expelled from this world!”
“Moreover, the probability of Cheng Yun and Lin Wanqing achieving a happy ending is 100%!”
A gentle evening breeze stirred as Shi Mi carried Lin Wanqing on her back, ready to walk to the ends of the world.
