Stealing My Ex's White Moonlight - Chapter 28
After finishing their meal, the two settled on the sofa to watch TV.
Lin Wanqing rested her head on Shi Mi’s lap, Shi Mi’s fingers combing through her silky hair like a comb. Occasionally, a few strands drifted onto Lin Wanqing’s face.
She wrinkled her nose. “It’s so itchy.”
Yet she didn’t brush the strands away, her eyes fixed on Shi Mi.
Shi Mi looked down at her. “Where does it itch?”
“There’s hair on my face.”
Shi Mi leaned closer, her nose almost touching Lin Wanqing’s before she stopped.
So close, Lin Wanqing caught the sweet, peach-like scent radiating from Shi Mi, enveloping her like a gentle wave.
She felt herself floating lightly, her throat subtly moving as if she longed to taste it. Her curled lashes fluttered, and she unconsciously bit her lip with her pearly teeth, her fingertips lightly gripping the sofa as if trying to grasp the peach fragrance swirling around her.
Shi Mi chuckled softly at Lin Wanqing’s tense yet expectant expression, gently blowing the hair off her face.
“All done.”
Lin Wanqing felt a pang of disappointment, her heart sinking. “Oh.”
Shi Mi gently rubbed Lin Wanqing’s soft lips with her fingertip. “Don’t keep biting your lip. It’ll look bad if you break the skin.”
Her fingertip felt warm against Lin Wanqing’s lips, as if they had been heated, turning them a vivid, dewy rose-red, utterly captivating.
Shi Mi’s gaze lingered, captivated. Just then, her phone rang—it was Zeng Mei.
“Which hotel are you at? I’ll come find you.”
Shi Mi stroked Lin Wanqing’s hair. “I’m with Wanqing.”
“Oh… wait, what?”
Zeng Mei’s voice was a mix of surprise and suspicion. Why would she be with Lin Wanqing? Recalling Feng Zhimei’s earlier call, she wondered if Lin Wanqing had personally intervened to resolve the situation. Wow, that’s quite the show of support.
But now wasn’t the time for speculation. Zeng Mei urged, “Quick, check online. Is Cheng Yun’s response real?”
Shi Mi didn’t need to look to know how Cheng Yun would smear her reputation. Still, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment. Does my manager really trust me so little?
Does she really need to ask if this is true?
She glanced down at Lin Wanqing. “Do you have a laptop?”
“I’ll get it for you.”
The screensaver on the laptop was a photo of the two of them together, wearing straw hats and standing in a golden rice field. Lin Wanqing held a sickle in one hand, her fair legs splattered with mud.
Shi Mi’s arm rested on Lin Wanqing’s shoulder, her other hand holding a pair of gloves.
Both women beamed brightly.
Shi Mi turned to look at her, a smile curving her lips. “You still have that?”
Lin Wanqing blushed under her gaze. “It’s a nice photo, so I kept it.”
“Come here.”
Shi Mi pulled her into her arms, wrapping her arms around her waist. She propped one leg up on the sofa, resting the laptop on her thigh.
She opened Weibo and immediately saw the top trending topic: #ChengYunResponds.
The first two sentences of Cheng Yun’s statement caught her eye: “Ms. Jiang You and I were once in love, but we have since broken up.” She immediately summoned the System. “How’s it going? Did I complete the first Last Wish?”
The System sighed wearily. “No. This mission was practically a freebie. You just had to follow my instructions from the start.”
Shi Mi wasn’t bothered. She had plenty of ways to achieve a peaceful breakup.
The rest of Cheng Yun’s statement accused Jiang You of relentless harassment after the breakup, repeated threats, greed for money, and manipulative behavior.
Netizens, eager for gossip, swarmed into the fray, proving the adage that onlookers never think the drama is big enough. They even sought confirmation from Zhang Xing, the entertainment industry’s self-proclaimed “disciplinary committee.”
I wouldn’t believe a word they say unless you confirm it.
Speak up! I’m terrified of picking the wrong side!
How could this scandal be complete without your take?
Lin Wanqing leaned in, her face contorted with indignation. “Cheng Yun is such a scumbag!”
Shi Mi rested her chin on her palm, blinking. “Good. At least you know she’s a scumbag.”
Lin Wanqing frowned. “What do you mean by that?”
Shi Mi didn’t elaborate, turning to Zeng Mei instead. “It’s all fake.”
“That’s good,” Zeng Mei replied. “Leave this to me. I’ll have the PR team draft a response.”
Still concerned, Zeng Mei added, “Don’t do anything rash.”
Shi Mi hummed softly in agreement.
“Alright, I won’t interrupt your alone time,” Zeng Mei said before hanging up.
Shi Mi ended the call and set her laptop on the coffee table.
Lin Wanqing clung to the earlier topic. “Why does that sound like you think I’d have something with her?”
“Who said that?”
Seeing she wouldn’t give a straight answer, Lin Wanqing straddled Shi Mi’s lap, facing her directly. “What do you mean, ‘It’s enough that I know Cheng Yun is a jerk’?”
Shi Mi pinched her ear playfully. “You’re just letting your imagination run wild.”
Lin Wanqing wasn’t so easily swayed. She buried her face in Shi Mi’s neck, showering her with affection. “Tell me, please!”
Shi Mi remained unmoved.
When her affection failed, Lin Wanqing threw a little tantrum. “Do you know something you’re not telling me?!”
“Jiang You!”
“……”
Lin Wanqing crossed her arms, her cheeks puffed out in a pout.
Shi Mi reached out and pinched her soft cheeks. “What’s there to say? Hmm? Isn’t it obvious she’s a jerk? I say one thing, and you jump to conclusions. How am I supposed to talk to you?” Her tone carried a hint of reproach.
Lin Wanqing froze for a moment before collapsing into Shi Mi’s arms. “You’re being mean to me!”
Shi Mi sighed.
Stroking Lin Wanqing’s silky hair, Shi Mi chuckled softly. “My little darling, how could I ever be mean to you? Hmm… okay, I was mean. What can I do to make it up to you?”
“How about warming your bed?”
Lin Wanqing huffed. “I don’t want that.”
“Oh, I almost forgot to call Sister Zhimei.” Lin Wanqing’s voice was soft. “It’s so far away, I can’t reach it.”
It was clearly within reach.
Shi Mi reached for Lin Wanqing’s phone, her fingertip tapping the screen to light it up. The lock screen displayed a photo of the two of them kissing.
During the summer after high school graduation, the school asked them to help shoot a promotional video.
The campus was deserted. Dressed in their blue and white school uniforms, they ran through the corridors, lay on the grassy field basking in the sun, and splashed each other by the pond.
The female photographer praised them, saying they exuded not only youthful energy but also a palpable sense of budding romance and youthful innocence.
As the shoot wrapped up, the photographer asked to take a separate photo of just the two of them.
Inside the classroom, the curtains fluttered as the setting sun streamed in, bathing the floor in an orange-red glow.
Shi Mi leaned forward, her hands braced against the desk behind her, one leg bent and resting on the desk leg.
Lin Wanqing stood on tiptoe, her hands clasped behind her back, her chin tilted slightly upward.
Their eyes were closed, their lips almost touching.
“Don’t move—ah, perfect!”
The photographer snapped the shot and immediately lowered her head to review the photo.
Just as Lin Wanqing was about to open her eyes, a cool sensation brushed her lips. Shi Mi whispered, “Happy graduation, my girl.”
It was their first kiss.
Time had flown by.
Shi Mi gazed at the lock screen photo, her lips curving into a smile. “Did you have a crush on me back in high school?”
Lin Wanqing’s ears flushed crimson. “Who has a crush on you…?”
“Wow, so that’s why! The delicate young lady came to my house to harvest rice and even slept on a hard wooden bed. Hmm, and we even bathed together naked in a big wooden tub, letting me scrub her back. Hmm, and there’s also…”
Lin Wanqing covered Shi Mi’s mouth with her hand. “…Stop talking.”
Shi Mi blinked.
Lin Wanqing took Shi Mi’s phone, released her hand, and tried to get up, but Shi Mi wrapped her arms around Lin Wanqing’s waist, preventing her from moving.
Her eyes sparkled with affection. “And… you always steal kisses from me when I’m asleep. Don’t think I don’t notice.”
Lin Wanqing stubbornly retorted, “I was just curious!”
Shi Mi chuckled softly. “Aren’t you curious anymore?”
Her gaze was too intense for Lin Wanqing to bear. She pushed Shi Mi away. “I’m going to take a shower. I’m not talking to you anymore!”
Shi Mi’s voice drifted from behind her. “I like black.”
After sitting for a while, Shi Mi decided to get up and grab her clothes to shower. A message popped up on the laptop’s WeChat:
Feng Zhimei: How’s it going?
Lin Wanqing replied quickly: How’s what going?
Feng Zhimei: /smirking emoji Did you manage to pin her down?
After a moment, Lin Wanqing replied: I had to pin her down.
Feng Zhimei: Good, good. I’ll handle the Song Wei situation. I won’t disturb you two any longer.
Shi Mi stared at the words “must pounce” and slowly smiled, a wild, unrestrained grin spreading across her face.
