- Chapter 12 - Nothing but Trouble
The alley was silent deep into the night. Being part of an old neighborhood, most of the residents were elderly, and everyone had long since turned off their lights and gone to bed. The apartment blocks were dark, and the streetlights were old, several barely functioning, casting ghostly shadows along the empty streets.
To reach his rental apartment, Wang Bupo had to pass through a quiet park and a narrow, stone-paved path.
He was scrolling on his phone, ignoring Fu Jing’s messages and calls. Thinking he’d soon be home, he didn’t bother responding.
Suddenly, the faint sound of footsteps scraping gravel came from behind.
And that rotten, foul smell of apples hit him again, making his stomach churn.
Reacting instantly, Wang Bupo spun and delivered a flying kick.
The man staggered back, clutching his abdomen, leaning forward slightly, but with a ridiculous look of pleasure on his face, letting out a low, drawn-out moan.
“Ohhh, what a spicy little cutie~”
“Feels so good to kick you, baby~”
His narrow, leering eyes stayed locked on Wang Bupo, utterly disgusting.
“What are you doing roaming around this late? Come home with me, let me take good care of you…”
“Ugh, you… You’re… gross!” Wang Bupo gagged, unable to finish a single sentence.
“Ever since the last time you accidentally wandered into the male Alpha restroom to change your pheromone patch, I fell in love with your scent. Did you come here just to seduce me? Look at that cute little face… so handsome…”
The sleazy man even licked his lips while speaking.
Wang Bupo suddenly remembered the other day, when he had accidentally entered the men’s restroom at the internet café. At the time, no one was inside, and he had only gone in to change his pheromone patch. He hadn’t expected anyone to walk in afterward, but he was already finished and didn’t think anything of it, assuming all the men wearing patches would be indistinguishable Alpha or Omega.
Now, of all people, this disgusting man had zeroed in on him.
“GET LOST!” Wang Bupo tried to punch him, but the man suddenly pulled out a tiny syringe and jabbed it into Wang Bupo’s thigh.
A sharp sting shot through him. He kicked the man away and yanked the syringe out mid-injection.
“What the hell did you inject into me?!”
“Of course, something to make you feel good, baby~”
The moment the man spoke, Wang Bupo felt his strength draining.
It was… hot.
In the deserted, dimly lit park, the sleazy man advanced step by step, his coarse, filthy hand gripping the back of Wang Bupo’s neck.
With a violent rip, the man tore off Wang Bupo’s pheromone patch, releasing a strong, sweet orange scent.
“Perfect… an Omega in heat…” The man inhaled deeply, his eyes gradually reddening. He pinned Wang Bupo down with one hand while the other began to wander.
Wang Bupo’s limbs went limp, his eyes widening in helpless frustration. He trembled, his body instinctively rejecting the approaching danger.
But then, the expected stabbing pain at the back of his neck never came. Instead, a cool, sharp grapefruit scent replaced the putrid apple stench, wrapping around him protectively.
Weakly lifting his eyelids, he saw the veins on the back of pale hands and tightly clenched fists.
At that moment, though his consciousness was fuzzy, he knew it was him.
Realizing it was Fu Jing, Wang Bupo inexplicably felt a sense of relief. His tense, trembling body finally relaxed.
After several intense moments of fists colliding, police sirens and the wail of an ambulance followed. Wang Bupo lost consciousness.
“…Your partner’s heat, combined with the stimulant, caused some disruption of their pheromone system. The drug has cleared, but it affected the glands, creating an imbalance… They may develop a strong dependency on your pheromones due to lack of security…”
“Looks like you haven’t fully marked your partner yet, right?”
The doctor looked at the handsome man in front of him. According to the police report, he and the victim were legally married. Yet the partner hadn’t been fully marked, whether due to marital issues or something else, the doctor couldn’t tell. Judging by his demeanor, he clearly cared.
When the police and ambulance arrived, they witnessed the man violently subduing the assailant. Only after sedatives were administered did he calm down. Any Alpha seeing their Omega partner in heat about to be assaulted would lose control, enhanced by pheromonal instincts.
Fu Jing’s hand was still slightly bleeding from the fight. He was irritated at his own loss of composure.
Normally, kicking the man away and calling the police would have sufficed. But losing control and beating him like that wasn’t Fu Jing’s usual calm, measured style. He blamed the pheromones for the lapse.
“Mm,” he said finally, his voice dry.
“Does he need full marking to recover?”
“Not exactly. There isn’t a perfect treatment. The best way is for you to provide daily pheromone reassurance, engage in physical contact, holding hands, hug, kissing, or have more intimate interaction. Full marking helps regulate the pheromone imbalance more effectively.”
“How long will this last?”
“It depends on you. With cooperation, recovery from pheromone-induced stress usually doesn’t exceed six months. You can bring him for regular check-ups.”
The doctor could see Fu Jing’s concern, but had no definite answer.
“I understand, doctor.”
Wang Bupo had actually woken up while the doctor and Fu Jing discussed the symptoms. Hearing the treatment plan, he barely opened a slit of an eye, pretending to be asleep.
When Fu Jing glanced in his direction, he quickly closed it again.
After the doctor left, Fu Jing’s cold voice came from above him:
“Awake? Then let’s go. Don’t linger at the hospital, I’m not paying your bill.”
Wang Bupo tried to look like he’d just woken up, but Fu Jing didn’t even glance at him and walked off.
He followed, took some medicine, and settled the hospital bill. By then, it was already the afternoon of the second day.
Fu Jing took him to a nutrition porridge shop, and they sat in silence, facing each other.
“Thanks,” Wang Bupo finally said, his mind slowly catching up.
He knew Fu Jing had saved him, taken him to the hospital after he passed out, and as for that disgusting man, he must have faced justice after the police arrived.
Fu Jing glanced at him coldly and muttered, “Nothing but trouble.”
Wang Bupo felt somewhat resentful but had to admit compared to Fu Jing, he was like a helpless chicken.
Damn it. Once he had money, he vowed to hire a personal trainer and learn to box.
