- Chapter 2 - I’m a Straight Man!
“I want a divorce! I’m a straight man!”
Wang Bupo couldn’t believe he was supposed to live under the same roof with this person, as a husband, no less.
“Divorce if you want, but let me be clear: that one million debt is yours alone,” Fu Jing said, seemingly indifferent, almost pleased. He had no desire to be tied to a grown man as a partner.
“What?!” Wang Bupo nearly forgot about that one-million-yuan debt.
“Isn’t that supposed to be joint debt?”
“I checked your phone. That penalty is entirely your responsibility because you breached the contract.”
“But I only owe it because I married you! Doesn’t that make it joint debt?”
“Debts for household expenses count as joint debt,” Fu Jing said flatly.
“What do you mean?” Wang Bupo blinked.
“Look at why you owe that money,” Fu Jing frowned. It was clear he was disgusted by Wang Bupo’s crude, unrefined behavior.
Wang Bupo opened his broken phone and reviewed the messages. That million-yuan penalty was from yesterday and it was because he had agreed to act in a male-male movie but later refused due to the content?
And he was supposed to be the… bottom?!
No way he could be the bottom!
Luckily, he breached the contract. Otherwise, his reputation…
The real problem now: he couldn’t repay this debt alone. And judging by the circumstances, Fu Jing had violated the contract to preserve his alpha virtue because they were married.
So… what about this marriage?
“Hey, Fu Jing,” Wang Bupo said, puppy-eyed and spinning his gaze innocently. He walked over, slapping Fu Jing’s shoulder like a buddy.
“Look, we’ve been through life and death together. We’re alone in this world now… and we’ve become, uh.”
He paused, thinking.
“A family. Right, a family. Isn’t that fate? We’ve been through hardship together, so how can we just split up? We should work together to overcome this. Don’t you agree?”
“Oh. So?” Fu Jing gave him a cool, sidelong glance.
“So… let’s not divorce just yet.”
“And you’ll help pay off the debt?” Fu Jing sneered.
“Good brother! You get me!” Wang Bupo almost teared up.
“Ha.”
“Hehe.”
“You might as well drag me to hell with you.”
“Well, if it’s really impossible… then help me with rent and utilities…” Wang Bupo’s eyelids drooped as he played the pitiful act.
Fu Jing, slightly exasperated at this grown man pretending to be cute, paused and finally said, “I have conditions.”
“Name them.”
“First, no swearing.”
“Easy.”
“Second, you must have your own income.”
“No problem.”
“Third, don’t tell anyone we’re married.”
“Of course.” Wang Bupo could never admit to anyone that he, a straight man, was married to another man and was the wife, no less. He wasn’t insane.
“Other conditions I’ll add later.”
“Fine.”
“What are you doing?”
Wang Bupo noticed Fu Jing had been fiddling with the broken phone.
“Don’t you think the gender listed is weird?” Fu Jing asked.
“The letters at the end… yeah, kind of odd.”
Fu Jing opened an educational video on physiology. Sitting side by side on the bed, their heads unconsciously touched as they watched. Within minutes, they looked like old subway commuters staring at a screen.
The video explained gender differentiation, glands, pheromones, barrier patches, and inhibitors. Both were shocked, instinctively touching the back of their necks Fu Jing wrinkled his nose, Wang Bupo sniffed left and right.
It continued into sensitive periods, heats, temporary and complete markings. They glanced at each other, then instantly pulled apart.
One sat awkwardly at the head of the bed, the other at the foot, terrified.
“So I’m an… Omega, and I can get pregnant?! Why me? Not you? This doesn’t make sense!” Wang Bupo’s finger trembled as he pointed to himself.
Fu Jing’s temple twitched. “That’s the main point?”
Wang Bupo stared at him, then at his own stomach, horrified. “I didn’t already… get pregnant with your kid, did I? Damn it!”
Though the marriage certificate showed they had only been married for a week, anything was possible.
Fu Jing, noticing his panic, glanced around and saw some barrier patches and syringes in the corner of the table.
“We haven’t gone that far,” he said, pointing. “If I had fully marked you, you wouldn’t need inhibitors. Only a complete marking opens the reproductive cavity, and that’s when pregnancy can happen.”
Fu Jing paused, clearly uncomfortable mentioning the reproductive cavity—they had just watched a video explaining how an alpha activates an omega’s reproductive cavity for conception.
“You wouldn’t… do anything to me, right? I saw something about the law.”
“Alpha,” Fu Jing corrected.
“Yeah, alpha… like a beast,” Wang Bupo shivered, crossing his arms defensively.
Fu Jing thought he was cursing him, but let it slide, teasing, “Relax. I’m not desperate enough to do anything. Just don’t jump on me when you go into heat.”
“Impossible! I’m a straight man!”
Still uneasy, they studied how to use the barrier patches and inhibitors.
In this world, suppression methods were fully developed, and gender discrimination from pheromones was almost gone. Alpha sensitivity and Omega heat could be controlled via inhibitors or suppression rings. Barrier patches could mask pheromones, allowing normal activity even during sensitive periods.
“Wait, inhibitors are separated for Alphas and Omegas?” Wang Bupo picked up a syringe, comparing it to the instructions. Then he looked at the barrier patch. “Does this one differ?”
“Nope,” Fu Jing replied.
“Why can we get the barrier patches for free every month, but the inhibitors cost money?!” Wang Bupo checked an online store price. “I’d rather you just bite my neck.”
“There’s a gender called… something… Beta?” Wang Bupo tried recalling the English term.
“Beta,” Fu Jing sighed.
“Yes! With all the genders mentioned, this is the normal one,” Wang Bupo said excitedly.
“You could get surgery.”
“Even surgery costs money!”
Wang Bupo’s body hadn’t changed; he had no plans to be with men or to reproduce. But at least, as a Beta, he could save money on inhibitors.
Looking at the syringes they’d bought separately before marriage, Wang Bupo thought: the only perk of being two broke people living together was saving on inhibitors.
