- Chapter 20 - A Bit Annoying (Revised)
When Fu Jing came back with breakfast, he saw Wang Bupo walking out of his room, rubbing his sleepy eyes. The first thing he said was, “Feeling any better?”
Fu Jing blinked. “What?”
Wang Bupo gave him a strange look, studying him for a moment before asking, “You don’t remember?”
“Remember what?”
“Your susceptibility period started last night.”
Fu Jing froze. His body did feel a little off, but nothing serious, and after sleeping it off, he’d felt fine again.
“I gave you a suppressant injection. You don’t remember?”
Fu Jing shook his head.
That confirmed it, Fu Jing had absolutely no recollection of what happened when he lost control.
Wang Bupo clicked his tongue. Great. I spent half the night dealing with him while he got to sleep it off. Still, he was relieved that Fu Jing couldn’t remember; otherwise, the thin-skinned guy would probably be mortified and want to cut ties again.
“No wonder you were biting like a mad dog yesterday,” Wang muttered, rubbing the not-yet-healed mark on his neck. The memory made him shudder.
“I didn’t do anything too bad, did I?” Fu Jing asked, looking genuinely confused.
“Coug,h no, not really. Just… kind of annoying.”
He said it casually, though in his mind he was thinking: Annoying as hell. Clingy, tearful, and trying to negotiate like a toddler.
Still, compared to how some Alphas reportedly lost control during their susceptibility phases, needing both muzzles and restraint collars, Fu Jing had actually been impressively restrained.
“Thanks,” Fu Jing said politely.
Wang Bupo glanced at the now calm and stoic man in front of him, and for a split second, the memory of his pitiful, clingy expression from last night flashed in his mind. He shuddered, decided he must just be sleep-deprived, and went back to bed for another nap.
In this world, Alpha and Omega susceptibility or heat cycles usually lasted about a week. As long as suppressants were used promptly at the onset and reapplied as needed, they didn’t cause too much trouble. A blocking patch could handle the rest.
That night, Fu Jing noticed something was off and quickly injected another suppressant before going to bed early. Everything seemed under control, so Wang Bupo slept soundly beside him.
Until, in the middle of the night, Fu Jing started moving again, nudging him awake.
Half-asleep, Wang pushed him away irritably. “Go back to sleep,” he muttered.
But Fu Jing grabbed his hand, refusing to let go. That made Wang snap fully awake.
He switched on the light, only to see Fu Jing’s eyes red, looking pitiful again.
“Seriously…” Wang groaned under his breath. Wasn’t the suppressant supposed to work?
“Handle it yourself,” he said impatiently. “Don’t drag me into it.”
But when Fu Jing’s eyes started to well up, Wang caved with a frustrated sigh. He grumbled to himself but still tried to help calm him down.
Hours later, when the night finally quieted, Wang sat up groaning, sore and exhausted. He glanced at Fu Jing, already fast asleep, and muttered a few curses under his breath before trudging to the bathroom for a shower.
When he finally collapsed back into bed, he was too tired to thinkjust relieved the night was over.
