- Chapter 27 - He’s Not My Type
Tingquan Villa was nestled atop a mountain on the outskirts of the city.
The place was a blend of elegance and nature, a tranquil resort where guests could enjoy saunas, hot springs, barbecues, camping, and even watch the sunrise and sunset. It offered not only natural scenery but also modern entertainment and leisure facilities.
In short, it was a resort that combined wellness, recreation, fine dining, and comfort, an ideal escape for both rest and play.
By the time Wang Bu Po and Fu Jing boarded the cable car that led up to the summit, it was almost evening.
The sky at dusk was breathtaking, a vast canvas streaked with gold and crimson. The open cabin swayed gently, the cool mountain air carrying the scent of pine and grass.
Wang Bu Po was in awe. His vocabulary failed him, so he could only exclaim, “Holy damn, that’s gorgeous!”
“Fu Jing, look at that sunset! Holy look at it! Quick, take a photo for me!”
He patted Fu Jing’s arm, handed him his phone, and struck a peace-sign pose with an exaggerated grin.
Behind them, in the cable car, sat Gu Chengyu and Ji Xiao. Over weeks of training, Wang Bu Po had gotten to know them well, especially Ji Xiao, who shared his rowdy, carefree energy.
“Xiao’er!” Wang Bu Po called out across the gap.
“Yo! Brother Bu!” Ji Xiao shouted back.
“Take a wide shot! Get my cable car and the sunset in the same frame!”
Wang Bu Po leaned halfway out the window, waving and pointing at himself to the sky to make sure Ji Xiao understood.
Fu Jing, sitting beside him, instinctively grabbed his wrist. “Careful,” he said quietly, using just enough strength to pull him back.
The ride ended soon after, and Wang Bu Po stepped out of the car reluctantly, still buzzing from the view.
They were greeted by Shi Li, who came out from the villa to welcome them, and he introduced the birthday girl standing next to him, Shi Yi.
Shi Yi recognized Wang Bu Po immediately. After all, he was the national competition champion, and though they had crossed paths once at a supermarket, this was their first proper meeting.
“Oh, it’s you!” Wang Bu Po said, smiling in surprise. “Happy birthday!”
He handed her the small gift bag he’d been carrying since they left the stuffed toy he’d hurriedly bought that morning.
“I didn’t really know what girls like, so I just picked something random,” he said sheepishly, scratching his head.
“Didn’t I say you didn’t need to bring a gift?” Shi Li complained lightly, reaching over to push it back.
“Aw, I already bought it,” Wang Bu Po insisted, stuffing it into Shi Yi’s hands.
“Thank you,” Shi Yi said with a genuine smile. Then her gaze shifted toward Fu Jing. “And who’s this? You even brought your little cousin along?”
Fu Jing’s expression cooled. “I’m not his cousin.”
“Ah?” Shi Yi blinked, turning to Wang Bu Po. “Then you two are…?”
“Oh, that I was just kidding before! He’s my friend, basically like a brother.” Wang Bu Po laughed awkwardly, rubbing his nose.
“I see…” Shi Yi looked between the two of them, lips pursed slightly, still appearing unconvinced.
Once everyone went inside, Shi Yi leaned toward her brother and whispered,
“Hey, do you remember the message I sent you before the National Day camping trip? About a guy I said you’d probably like?”
Shi Li frowned. “No. Why?”
Shi Yi’s eyes followed Wang Bu Po and Fu Jing, who were walking side by side and laughing together.
“That’s hi, I’m the omega who won the national competition.”
Shi Li gave a glance and said simply, “You’ve got the wrong idea. He’s not my type.”
“Really?” Shi Yi crossed her arms, tilting her head thoughtfully as she watched him walk away. Under her breath, she muttered, “So my brother doesn’t like guys like that? But he’s funny, and his voice is nice… actually, his voice sounds a lot like”
“Shi Yi?”
A familiar female voice called out from behind.
Shi Yi turned to see Feng Qingqing, accompanied by her twin brother, Feng Chengcheng.
“What were you mumbling about just now?” Feng Qingqing asked curiously.
“Huh? Nothing. Let’s go, everyone’s already inside.” Shi Yi shook her head and dropped the subject.
The Shi and Feng families had once been neighbors. Shi Yi and the twins had grown up together, the same age, inseparable as kids. But when their parents divorced when she was eight, Shi Yi’s family moved away, and they didn’t see each other again for five years.
When they reunited at thirteen, the twins had moved back with their mother, Feng Wanyi, who had remarried an alpha man and given birth to a younger half-brother, also an alpha, according to his test results.
Since then, things had subtly changed between them. They were still friendly, but the closeness of childhood was gone.
In their world, gender differentiation could be tested from birth, though the first susceptibility or heat cycle wouldn’t appear until around sixteen.
Everyone knew that the higher one’s pheromone level, the stronger their self-control and talent tended to be.
That was why most prodigies, scholars, and leaders were usually high-ranked alphas or omegas.
Shi Yi used to envy the Feng twins. Their mother was the powerful head of Feng Pharmaceuticals, an omega woman with S-grade pheromones.
The twins had inherited her exceptional genes, scoring high in intelligence and academics. Their parents had always appeared deeply in love, a model family, admired by everyone.
A prestigious background, brilliant genes, loving parents… it had all seemed so perfect.
Until one day, that perfect couple ended in divorce.

The villa’s courtyard was stunningly decorated.
Candles, flowers, and balloons adorned the open space. Soft music flowed from the sound system, and a few instruments and microphones stood to the side, ready for anyone to perform. Barbecue grills lined one edge of the patio, with sauces and skewers already laid out.
Servers arranged small dishes on low tables, fried spring rolls, sticky rice cakes, seafood platters, and fruit trays alongside chilled drinks.
The villa itself was a beautiful blend of modern design and traditional wooden architecture, with a wide terrace that offered a panoramic view.
From where Wang Bu Po stood, he could see a silver river winding between the dark slopes of the mountain. Beyond that, in the distance, the city skyline shimmered, its lights twinkling like stars caught on the horizon.
Facing west, the terrace was the perfect spot to hold a drink —a colorful cocktail with slices of fruit floating inside —and watch the sun sink below the mountains.
The sun now hovered just above the ridge, its shy half-face blushing crimson as it sank, bathing everything in warm, golden light that gradually deepened from gold to red, then to violet.
Even the glow that touched their skin seemed to turn to liquid gold.
Fu Jing stood beside him, silent.
He watched the sunset.
But mostly, he watched him.
And somewhere nearby, someone else noticed too.
