Sunny Joy - CHAPTER 14
They have been together for seven or eight months, but apart from holding hands, having meals together, and hugging, there hasn’t been anything else between Song Ciyue and Meng Ran.
When a friend asked them about their usual good relationship and how they had progressed to that point, Song Ciyue honestly replied that she felt this progress was quite normal.
But what the friend cares about is that they haven’t even kissed once.
“Maybe I’m just too slow to warm up, or maybe he’s slow to warm up. It’s my first time being in a relationship, so I’m inexperienced. It could also be that my reflexes are a bit slow, and I can’t pick up on his signals?”
Because Meng Ran became the class monitor of their major in her sophomore year, they might have had less time to meet due to her busy schedule. However, they still frequently shared their daily lives, and Meng Ran even reported her daily itinerary to her.
The time they spent chatting each day has also decreased significantly. Song Ciyue felt a bit anxious and missed him a lot. They had a small notebook to record their love, which Song Ciyue had specially bought. Each of them would take turns for a week, writing something every day.
Once, two people who hadn’t seen each other in a long time finally met. Around seven or eight in the evening, they were walking hand in hand down the street when suddenly the wind picked up. The wind was quite strong, and his open coat was flapping wildly.
Before they met, she had a lot to say. After they met, she found that just seeing each other was enough. She just wanted to hold hands and walk together until the end of time.
Suddenly, his friend called and said he wanted to go out and play an escape room together.
He held the phone to his ear, standing still to take the call, not moving any further. Song Ciyue obediently didn’t disturb him, not moving forward, waiting for him to finish the call.
Meng Ran looked down at her, perhaps getting a bit too close. She could hear the noisy chatter on the other end of the phone, very lively, probably with quite a few people. They were saying something like, “You absolutely have to come.”
Song Ciyue felt a bit down; she wanted to stay a little longer, but she felt she should be more understanding. Life is still long, and they have a lot of time ahead of them.
The girl watched the boy’s clothes being blown open with boredom. She reached out to help him zip up, while waiting for him to finish his call, but suddenly, someone hugged her.
The girl looked up somewhat unexpectedly, worried about disturbing him, and mouthed the words, “What’s wrong?”
Meng Ran was also just holding her waist with one hand, looking at her, with the other hand holding his phone, just not saying anything.
The person on the other end of the phone was still talking non-stop, and he didn’t respond. He looked at her for a long time, and Song Ciyue felt her face getting a bit hot.
Meng Ran put his phone down and asked her, “Do you want to go play an escape room?”
Song Ciyue looked at his handsome brows and eyes, feeling as if she had been bewitched, wanting to stay with him a little longer, just a little longer. She nodded, okay.
It seemed to be windy again that day, and the two of them were standing at the corner of the street waiting for a ride.
The boy held the girl’s hand all the way; his palm was warm and dry, giving a very reassuring feeling.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m too nervous, but Song Ciyue felt her palms slightly sweating. She felt very embarrassed and wanted to pull her hand out to wipe it, but it was pulled even tighter, as if afraid she would run away.
After getting in the car, the boy naturally pulled him into his arms and held him all the way. Song Ciyue obediently stayed still, letting him hold him.
This feeling is very wonderful, unlike any stage she has gone through in her life. It might also be because girls naturally lack a sense of security. Being held by Meng Ran, it feels as if she is being protected by someone. This embrace, she thinks she might never be able to give it up for a lifetime.
Arriving at the destination, the driver said we could get off.
Song Ciyue saw that Meng Ran wasn’t moving and asked him, “Aren’t you leaving?”
This time he spoke up: “I don’t want to go.”
“Why?”
Meng Ran repeated, “I don’t want to go.”
Song Ciyue was pulled by him, standing behind him, her thoughts drifting chaotically, unable to regain her composure. He had just spoken sweet words, saying he wanted to stay with her a little longer, and that he couldn’t get enough of looking at her.
Meng Ran has quite a few friends, both male and female, but there are more males than females. Most of the people in his friend group are basically there.
Song Ciyue saw them, and out of politeness, not knowing what to say, just nodded and smiled.
There was a very eye-catching girl among them, very good-looking. Song Ciyue knew her; she was the only girl in the group. She also smiled a little, but her gaze didn’t linger on Song Ciyue for long.
This place is quite popular; I’ve heard the ratings are excellent.
This is a bit convoluted and quite brain-draining. Song Ciyue isn’t good at this to begin with, so she doesn’t feel very involved. Seeing that she doesn’t seem to have anything to contribute, she just slacks off and coasts along.
The beautiful girl who has been following them around, she doesn’t seem to be in the mood to play either, so she just chats with Song Ciyue.
She asked Song Ciyue, “Do you usually play a lot?”
Song Ciyue is usually somewhat socially anxious and tends to be a bit cold towards strangers.
“Not much.”
The girl smiled gently and replied with familiarity, “Let Meng Ran take you. He plays a lot and plays very well.”
Song Ciyue felt a bit uncomfortable; the girl’s tone was naturally affectionate, as if they had known each other for a long time.
Meng Ran noticed the two people and asked, “What are you talking about?”
The girl still had that kind of smile, looking like she had no bad intentions: “I just asked if Ci Yue plays this a lot.”
Meng Ran might have misunderstood something, directly coming over to grab the girl’s hand: “It’s okay, I’m here.”
After he finished speaking, he took his girl and walked out, turning back to his friends and saying, “I’m tired, I’m leaving. You guys enjoy yourselves.”
The two people finished paying and were about to leave the hall when the beautiful girl chased after him and called out, “Wait, there’s one more thing…”
I don’t know what they talked about, but it seemed like they talked for a long time. Song Ciyue didn’t know, but in the end, Meng Ran apologetically told her to go back first and even called a cab for her.
How should I put it, I’m somewhat disappointed.
After returning, her roommate noticed something was off with her expression and asked a few questions. Song Ciyue, feeling a bit confused herself, explained her situation.
“Is this the pace of your relationship? Platonic? Can he really hold out? Sweetheart, you two are a bit off. And what’s up with that girl?”
Song Ciyue replied, “There’s a girl in their group chat that I don’t really know. But I get the feeling she doesn’t like me. Even though we’ve only interacted for a short time, I just have this feeling, I don’t know why.”
Another roommate seemed to know that girl and advised Song Ciyue, “You should pay more attention to that girl. She was with them the last time they went out, and I can tell she has a thing for Meng Ran. With the way things are going between you two, you might want to watch out for her trying to steal him away.”
“How did you know?”
My roommate explained, “I have a close friend who’s in the same class as her. She saw her posts on social media and told me about it.”
