Surprise! My Cohabiting Sister is Actually My Fiancée - Chapter 2
After finishing her conversation with the System, Jian Suixin quickly explained, “It’s nothing, I just thought your surname was quite uncommon.”
She didn’t forget to introduce herself. “Sister, my name is Jian Suixin.”
Even after learning Jun Xizhi’s full name, she didn’t change her earlier form of address.
Calling her “Sister” felt just right.
Jun Xizhi replied, “Got it, Little Jian.”
Having exchanged names, the two fell into conversation, gradually losing track of time until Ying Tao crept up behind Jian Suixin and peeked over her shoulder with a sly grin. “Hehe, you two seem to be having a wonderful time.”
Startled, Jian Suixin instinctively took a step forward, nearly bumping into Jun Xizhi’s arms. “Sorry, Sister… what are you doing?”
The last part was directed at Ying Tao, her tone suddenly sharp and aggressive, a stark contrast to her earlier warmth with Jun Xizhi.
The speaker saw nothing wrong with her words, but the listener secretly ground her teeth.
Just listen to that tone, that attitude! The way she treats me versus how she treats Jun Xizhi—it’s like heaven and earth!
Ying Tao forced a strained smile, her voice low and strained. “Darling, I’m right here—a living, breathing person. Could you please not chat so sweetly in front of me?”
Jian Suixin: ……
What nonsense is this?
Jian Suixin touched her nose, feeling a little guilty. “We were just chatting. It wasn’t like that at all.”
Ying Tao: “Heh, yeah, chatting so hard your face was about to crack from smiling.”
Jian Suixin: ……
Unable to come up with a retort, Jian Suixin pretended not to hear. “It’s getting late. You should go back and rest.”
Ying Tao refused to budge. She still had so much she wanted to talk about with Jian Suixin. How could she just leave like that? She was dying to know what was going on between them.
Ying Tao insisted Jian Suixin explain everything before she’d leave.
Helpless, Jian Suixin promised to clear things up with Jun Xizhi first and then explain everything to Ying Tao later.
Ying Tao reluctantly agreed.
Finally appeasing this demanding goddess, Jian Suixin felt much lighter. Now they could continue their sweet… no, their chat.
She was certainly busy tonight, juggling two fronts.
Returning to Jun Xizhi’s side, Jian Suixin suddenly remembered another important matter and slapped her forehead. “I almost forgot!”
“What is it?” Jun Xizhi asked, just as Jian Suixin pulled out her phone and handed it over.
Jun Xizhi paused, then glanced down at the screen.
Jian Suixin smiled. “Now that we’ve met again, can we add each other on WeChat, Sis?”
Jun Xizhi chuckled and took out her own phone. “Of course.”
Exchanging names and adding each other on WeChat, with the prospect of living together in the future, Jian Suixin felt utterly content.
When she tried to scan Jun Xizhi’s QR code, it wouldn’t scan, no matter how she adjusted the angle.
“Is it not scanning?” Jun Xizhi asked, moving from across the table to stand beside Jian Suixin. She shielded the screen with her hand. “How about now?”
After a slight adjustment, the scan finally went through. Jian Suixin put her phone away, her voice light and cheerful. “Got it!”
Before she could say anything more, a hand suddenly landed on her shoulder from behind.
She turned to see an unfamiliar face.
Just as they were chatting, the assistant finally returned.
Caught off guard, Jian Suixin instinctively greeted, “You… hello.”
The woman smiled back. “Hello.”
Then she beckoned Jian Suixin over.
Jian Suixin didn’t understand. “What is it?”
The woman maintained her polite smile. “Miss, would you mind stepping over here for a moment?”
Still unsure of her intentions, Jian Suixin complied, taking two steps forward. “Okay.”
Before she could ask what was happening, the woman swiftly moved forward, taking two quick steps to position herself perfectly between Jian Suixin and Jun Xizhi, blocking most of Jun Xizhi’s figure from view.
Jian Suixin: ?
What is this woman doing?
Slightly bewildered, Jian Suixin assumed the woman was a friend of her sister’s and politely asked, “Do you… know my sister?”
Something in Jian Suixin’s words seemed to strike a nerve. The woman’s expression twisted visibly before she quickly regained her smile. “Yes. Hello, Miss. I’m Zhang Jin, an old… friend of Sister Zhi’s. She just moved in, and I’m helping her unpack.”
Though she couldn’t pinpoint why, Jian Suixin sensed an underlying hostility from the woman.
But why? This is the first time we’ve met.
And why “Old Sister Zhi”? She’s clearly very young!
After mentally grumbling, Jian Suixin smiled. “So that’s how it is. Hello, I’m Jian Suixin.”
Zhang Jin continued, “Sister Zhi will be living with you from now on, Miss Jian. Please take good care of her.”
Jun Xizhi, standing behind Zhang Jin, added, “We’ll take care of each other.”
Positioned between them, Zhang Jin blocked Jian Suixin’s view of Jun Xizhi. Jian Suixin tilted her head to the right and winked at Jun Xizhi. “Mm-hmm, we’ll take care of each other.”
Zhang Jin, stuck in the middle, stared blankly.
Only then did Jian Suixin turn to Zhang Jin. “Don’t worry, I would have done that even if you hadn’t said anything.”
Zhang Jin considered that this roommate was meeting her boss for the first time and might not understand her boundaries. She decided to offer a gentle reminder.
With her back to Jun Xizhi, Zhang Jin subtly mentioned to Jian Suixin that Jun Xizhi disliked people getting too close and hoped she would be mindful of that in the future.
Jian Suixin suddenly realized, “Sister Zhi hates being touched? But I carried her on my back, hugged her, and even let her sleep in my bed! How did I avoid getting thrown out?”
The System offered a rational analysis: “Perhaps she restrained herself out of gratitude for you saving her life.”
Jian Suixin was deeply dissatisfied with this answer. “Isn’t it because I’m special to her?”
Naturally, the System would have loved for them to meet in the first chapter, establish their relationship in the second, and get married in the third. But as a rational system, it calmly analyzed: “Host, calm down. You’ve only known each other for a few days. That’s highly unlikely.”
Jian Suixin pouted and fell silent.
Turning her attention back to the assistant who insisted on wedging herself between Jian Suixin and Jun Xizhi, she finally understood. No wonder the assistant had pulled her away—she was trying to maintain distance from her boss.
But…
Recalling their earlier interactions, Jian Suixin remembered clearly that Jun Xizhi had been the one to move closer to her.
Because the QR code wouldn’t scan.
Though she thought this, she couldn’t say it directly. She nodded politely. “Alright, I’ll be more careful.”
If my sister cares, I should definitely be more mindful.
As this thought crossed her mind, she looked up and saw Jun Xizhi tilting her head to glance at her, mouthing something silently.
Though no sound escaped her lips, Jian Suixin instantly understood.
“Ignore her,” Jian Suixin mouthed.
She then winked at Jun Xizhi, mimicking her earlier gesture.
The assistant, standing with her back to Jun Xizhi, likely didn’t hear what Jian Suixin said, but she still guessed.
Jun Xizhi had always projected an image of gentle grace and dignity. This sudden display of playful charm didn’t feel out of character; instead, it added a touch of mischievousness to her aura.
Jian Suixin’s heart felt like it had been tickled by a feather.
Glancing at Zhang Jin’s stern expression, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Though the thought seemed somewhat inappropriate for Jun Xizhi, Jian Suixin couldn’t resist thinking, “She’s so cute.”
System: …Control yourself.
The assistant, her face etched with dark lines, thought: What’s so funny? What’s there to laugh about?
Then she heard Jun Xizhi on the other side also burst into laughter.
The assistant: …
What are you two doing? Communicating telepathically across me?
The assistant, her face still etched with dark lines, suddenly felt utterly superfluous.
She was like the Silver River that the Queen Mother of the West had created—even spanning the distance between them couldn’t prevent the Cowherd and Weaver Girl from meeting.
