Surprise! My Cohabiting Sister is Actually My Fiancée - Chapter 22
Jun Xizhi’s edited version was indeed much more concise than Jian Suixin’s original draft, but the wording was far too easily misinterpreted.
Well, to be honest, she wished it were true, but it couldn’t be right now!
Jian Suixin’s inner turmoil was written all over her face. Jun Xizhi tapped her fingers lightly on the table, watching her with amusement before finally laughing. “I was just joking. Don’t worry, I’ll handle this.”
Jian Suixin remained unconvinced. “Are you sure everything’s alright?”
“Absolutely,” Jun Xizhi reassured her, shaking her head with a relaxed air. “Xiao Zhang… well, he’s just a bit too serious. There’s no need to be so tense.”
She added teasingly, “And your writing—such beautiful prose shouldn’t be wasted. I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future reference.”
Jian Suixin finally let out a sigh of relief.
It was finally the weekend, and Jun Xizhi didn’t have to work overtime. With nothing to do, Jian Suixin dragged her elder sister out to the mall.
The two rode their bikes to a mall in the city’s central business district. Jian Suixin said, “Let’s go here. I know this place well.”
This mall was packed with luxury brands, where even a simple garment could cost a fortune, far beyond the reach of ordinary shoppers. Hearing this, Jun Xizhi smiled and asked, “Do you often come here to buy things?”
Jian Suixin couldn’t reveal the truth, so she coughed awkwardly and explained, “Not really, but I come here to browse often. Even if I can’t buy anything, it’s nice to look.”
Jun Xizhi chuckled. “Alright, let’s just browse then.”
Inside the mall, Jian Suixin stuck to her word, trying on clothes but buying nothing.
Jian Suixin, tears streaming down her face: “Beautiful clothes, I want you so much! Waaah!”
Jian Suixin: “I want to buy them so badly.”
System: “No money.”
Jian Suixin: “I want to buy them so badly.”
System: “No money.”
Jian Suixin: “I want to buy them so badly.”
System: “Why don’t you go home and ask…”
Jian Suixin: “…Shut up! I don’t want to buy anything anymore.”
System: “Then that settles it. Stop looking at things you can’t afford.”
Jian Suixin: “I used to be able to afford them.”
The System lost interest in arguing with her.
Jian Suixin dragged Jun Xizhi around, looking at countless clothes.
The sales associates, often charmed by their striking looks and elegant demeanor, were more than happy to let them try on anything.
After trying on the clothes, Jian Suixin politely said she’d like to look around some more, and the saleswoman politely agreed.
She tried on outfit after outfit, spending the entire evening browsing and captivating countless onlookers with her appearance.
In the end, she didn’t buy a single item.
Every time Jian Suixin emerged in a new outfit, she was showered with compliments. Even sales staff from neighboring stores, where business was slow, came over to watch.
If Jian Suixin had had the money, she would have been tempted to buy everything on the spot, overwhelmed by the praise.
“Thank goodness I’m broke,” she mused. “Poverty truly is the only thing that can curb excessive spending.”
Then she realized Jun Xizhi had been accompanying her the entire time, constantly showering her with compliments—and such sophisticated ones at that! Jian Suixin was starting to feel like she was floating on air.
Yet Jun Xizhi hadn’t tried on a single item herself.
Noticing this, Jian Suixin spun around, spotted a dress she liked, and ushered Jun Xizhi into the fitting room with it. “Elder Sister, try this on!”
Jian Suixin waited outside. A few minutes later, Jun Xizhi emerged.
Jian Suixin’s eyes lit up at the sight.
While a natural beauty could make even a burlap sack look good, there was a reason high-end fashion was considered high-end.
When Jian Suixin couldn’t afford clothes for herself, she’d only felt sad. But seeing Jun Xizhi in such stunning attire, knowing she couldn’t afford to buy it for her, pierced her heart with pain.
“I’ll have to ask my manager to find me more work as soon as we get back,” Jian Suixin said. “Otherwise, at my company salary, it would take a whole year to save up for just one outfit.”
System: “That’s ambitious.”
Jun Xizhi changed back into her own clothes. “Xiao Jian, you should look around more.”
Jian Suixin naturally refused, coaxing and pleading, “No, Elder Sister! You looked so stunning in that dress!”
Jun Xizhi’s appearance in that dress had been breathtaking, leaving Jian Suixin itching with desire. Through a combination of flattery and promises, she finally managed to persuade Jun Xizhi to try on a few more outfits.
“Elder Sister, try this one! It’ll definitely suit you.”
“Xiao Jian, just pick what you like. I’m fine.”
“Just this one, Elder Sister? Please?”
“I…”
“You look so beautiful and it fits you perfectly! It would be such a shame not to try it on.”
“…”
“Just do it for me? Please?”
Jun Xizhi’s hesitant expression softened into resignation. After a pause, she finally agreed, “Alright.”
Jian Suixin happily handed her the garment and watched her disappear into the fitting room again.
Having successfully coaxed Jun Xizhi into trying on several beautiful outfits, Jian Suixin felt utterly satisfied.
“Turns out, seeing someone else wear pretty clothes is even more fun than wearing them myself!”
She was about to continue when her phone rang. Seeing the name on the screen, Jian Suixin slapped her forehead. “I almost forgot!”
System: “What’s up?”
Jian Suixin: “I promised to pick up something for a colleague. I was so busy coaxing my Elder Sister to try on pretty clothes that I almost forgot.”
System: ……
After answering the call and greeting the other party, Jian Suixin shamelessly claimed she had already bought the item and would hand it over when they met.
When the other party called her bluff, she immediately confessed she would go buy it right away.
She then told Jun Xizhi to wait a moment and hurried off to shop.
Jun Xizhi had been wondering how to get rid of Jian Suixin, so this errand suited her perfectly.
Returning to the boutique where she had lingered the longest earlier, the saleswoman greeted her with a smile: “Miss, is there anything else I can assist you with?”
Jun Xizhi offered a polite smile. “Thank you for your help tonight. Please pack up the clothes I tried on earlier.”
The saleswoman maintained her smile. “Which item would you like, Miss?”
Jun Xizhi: “All of them.”
The saleswoman paused, momentarily stunned. When she finally grasped the meaning, her pupils widened slightly as she instinctively double-checked: “You mean… all of them?”
“Mm, thank you for your help,” Jun Xizhi said, handing her a black and gold card.
This was truly a windfall customer. The saleswoman stared at the card, lightly held between Jun Xizhi’s fingertips, for a few seconds before taking it, her smile widening involuntarily. “Certainly, miss. Please wait a moment.”
Jun Xizhi sat down on the sofa to rest. The saleswoman returned shortly. “If you’re comfortable, could you provide your address? We’ll arrange for delivery.”
Jun Xizhi took the pen and paper, then paused. “Let’s add each other on WeChat. I’ll leave the clothes here for now—no need to ship them yet.”
“Of course,” the saleswoman replied, pulling out her phone to scan Jun Xizhi’s WeChat QR code.
With the arrangements settled, someone called out from behind her, “Elder Sister, I’m back!”
Jun Xizhi immediately stood up, turning with a smile. “Did you find everything you wanted?”
“Mm-hmm, let’s go,” Jian Suixin said, lifting the shopping bag in her hand. “Are you tired? Should we head back?”
Jun Xizhi shook her head. “Not at all. Let’s keep browsing. It’s boring without you. I was just resting for a bit. I’ll carry some of your bags.”
“No need, it’s quite light,” Jian Suixin said, lifting the bag with one hand and looping her other arm through Jun Xizhi’s. “Let’s keep browsing.”
Before leaving, Jian Suixin glanced at the counter and noticed a row of bags printed with the brand’s logo. Her eyes widened. “Wow, who bought all these clothes? They must be loaded!”
Jun Xizhi instinctively stepped to the side, blocking Jian Suixin’s view of the counter. “I don’t know,” she mumbled.
Jian Suixin clicked her tongue. “Buying this much at once… at this brand’s prices, it must be seven figures! Seriously rich.”
“Seriously rich,” Jun Xizhi echoed absently.
“Elder Sister, where should we go next?”
“Let’s check out some more affordable clothes, the kind we can actually afford.”
“Okay, let’s go!”
The saleswoman, standing just a few steps away, overheard their conversation and her lips twitched. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
Watching the two women walk away hand in hand, she felt a moment of disorientation.
Was that decisive, extravagant spender who casually dropped seven figures without batting an eye just my imagination?
