Surprise! My Cohabiting Sister is Actually My Fiancée - Chapter 9
“After that, Elder Sister signed the lease with Sister Li and moved in,” Jian Suixin explained, giving Ying Tao the full, detailed version of the story as requested.
“So that’s how it happened,” Ying Tao remarked after hearing the whole account. “You two really have a deep connection.”
She still had one question: “Since she contacted you about renting the apartment, how did you not realize she was going to be your new roommate?”
Jian Suixin rubbed her nose, a little embarrassed. “I didn’t know it was her. I’m not familiar with renting, so I just forwarded Sister Li’s WeChat contact.”
Now that the topic was out, Jian Suixin took the opportunity to ask Jun Xizhi, “Elder Sister, when you contacted me, why didn’t you tell me who you were? If you had, I wouldn’t have only found out now.”
Jun Xizhi smiled. “I was planning to tell you after chatting for a bit, but you immediately sent me the landlord’s WeChat. I thought, ‘Why not give you a surprise?'”
It certainly was a surprise.
Regardless, Jian Suixin was overjoyed that her Elder Sister had returned to her side, and this time for good.
Before this, Jian Suixin had imagined their reunion, but she’d always pictured it happening by chance—perhaps while shopping or dining out. She never expected Jun Xizhi to seek her out so deliberately.
And now, they would be living together for an extended period.
If it weren’t happening right before her eyes, she wouldn’t have dared to dream it.
By the time everything was settled, it was late. The group dispersed. For Jian Suixin and Jun Xizhi, the day had been remarkably pleasant. But for the assistant…
The awkward meeting had finally come to an end.
Ying Tao went home, Jian Suixin returned to her room, leaving Jun Xizhi and her assistant alone. After exchanging a few private words with Jun Xizhi, the assistant finally seized the opportunity to voice her lingering doubts: “Boss, you’ve only met her once, right? How did you two get so close so quickly?”
Jun Xizhi replied casually, “It’s not that close. We’re just getting acquainted.”
Not that close?! the assistant thought incredulously. You’ve only met twice, and you’re practically glued together!
The assistant muttered inwardly, I still remember how you froze when the manager from the collaborating company patted your shoulder last time. If he’d acted like Jian Suixin, you’d have thrown him off the eighteenth floor!
The assistant mentally scoffed, but she dared not voice her thoughts to Jun Xizhi’s face. After a moment’s hesitation, she ventured a more tactful question: “I just… I mean, it’s only the first… the second time you’ve met, and she’s already calling you ‘Elder Sister’?”
This was precisely why the assistant had been so shocked by Jian Suixin’s earlier remark. It wasn’t the content of her words that was the issue, but the familiarity of her address.
The assistant couldn’t understand why all the boss’s relatives addressed her respectfully as “Sister Zhi,” yet Jian Suixin was suddenly granted such relaxed standards.
Jun Xizhi didn’t answer her question directly. Instead, adhering to her principle of factual accuracy, she corrected, “Not the second time.”
The assistant’s mind raced with “Why? Why? Why?” as she waited for Jun Xizhi’s explanation. This sudden remark caught her completely off guard. “What isn’t?”
Jun Xizhi calmly clarified, “She called me that the very first time we met.”
The assistant: ……
Alright, Boss! You really don’t need to explain everything so meticulously!
Explaining that “it wasn’t our first meeting” last time was one thing, but this again?
She’s doing this on purpose. The boss is absolutely doing this on purpose.
Seeing the assistant’s shocked expression, Jun Xizhi stopped teasing her and got down to business. With all matters resolved, the assistant, who had been busy all day, finally left.
Before leaving, the assistant lingered, reluctant to part. “Boss, I’m leaving now. Remember to take care of yourself.”
“Don’t worry,” Jun Xizhi replied.
“And remember to call me anytime you need anything.”
“Okay.”
The assistant repeated several “remember to…” instructions before hesitating and finally uttering her most heartfelt warning: “Remember not to get kidnapped!”
Jun Xizhi agreed to all the previous instructions, but remained silent at this last remark. She raised an eyebrow, looking at the assistant with a half-amused, half-teasing expression. “Kidnapped?”
The assistant met her gaze briefly before immediately lowering her head, looking pitiful. “I’m sorry, just pretend I didn’t say that.”
Jun Xizhi chuckled. “Your boss is a grown woman. I won’t get kidnapped.”
Based on Jun Xizhi’s behavior during the past hour alone, the assistant remained highly skeptical. “Really?”
Jun Xizhi maintained a calm demeanor. “Of course.”
The assistant scrutinized Jun Xizhi’s expression, finding her serious and sincere. Finally, she relaxed. She knew her boss wasn’t someone who could be easily tricked or taken against her will.
After all, kidnapping Jun Xizhi was impossible. If she left, it would only be because she chose to go willingly.
Overnight, their household had suddenly gained a new member. Jian Suixin wasn’t quite used to it yet, but the thought that this person was Jun Xizhi filled her heart with joy.
Jun Xizhi had just moved in and still had many things to unpack, while Jian Suixin continued her job search. The two were busy with their own tasks.
That evening, Jian Suixin returned home in high spirits. She had just finished an interview, and the company seemed eager to hire her. She hummed all the way home.
“I’m back!” As she opened the door, a fragrant aroma of cooked food wafted through the air, and Jian Suixin’s eyes lit up instantly.
After a long day of job hunting, coming home to a delicious meal—could there be anything more wonderful in the world?
At that moment, Jian Suixin’s good mood reached a new peak.
She inexplicably imagined a wife at home, preparing a meal while waiting for her beloved to return.
After changing her clothes, Jian Suixin hurried to the kitchen, where she found Jun Xizhi busy cooking. “Elder Sister!”
Jun Xizhi, who was stir-frying vegetables, turned around at her greeting. “You’re back? Did it go well?”
“It went great!” Jian Suixin excitedly shared the good news. “The company I interviewed with today really liked me. If all goes well, I’ll be hired!”
“That’s wonderful. I’m so happy for you.” Jun Xizhi was genuinely pleased that Jian Suixin had found a job.
Jian Suixin grinned. “Ever since you moved in, my job search has finally made progress. You must be my lucky charm!”
“It’s just a coincidence. You got the job through your own hard work.”
“Elder Sister, what kind of work do you do?” Jian Suixin asked casually.
The question seemed to stump Jun Xizhi. After a few seconds of silence, she replied, “I’m also looking for a job.”
Jian Suixin immediately empathized deeply. “We’re both in the same boat! Finding a job these days is so tough.”
“You’re right,” Jun Xizhi agreed. “It’s not easy at all.”
“What’s that delicious smell?” Jian Suixin’s attention shifted to the small pot on the stove. “Is it ribs? I could smell it as soon as I walked in!”
“Garlic ribs, with a side of stir-fried greens,” Jun Xizhi said with a smile. “They’ll be ready in a minute.”
“You’re amazing! I can’t even make the simplest stir-fries properly,” Jian Suixin admitted, stepping into the kitchen. “Let me help you. We’ll get it done faster together.”
“No need. You cooked last time, so it’s my turn,” Jun Xizhi waved her off. “You must be tired after being out all day. Go relax first. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”
She paused, then added, “I promised I’d let you taste my cooking, remember?”
Jian Suixin froze for a moment, then remembered the scene of Jun Xizhi leaving last time.
Those were the words Jun Xizhi had said when she left, and Jian Suixin remembered them clearly. The fact that Jun Xizhi remembered so vividly and was now earnestly fulfilling her promise warmed Jian Suixin’s heart.
When Jun Xizhi said those words, neither of them imagined they would come true so quickly.
“I’m just sitting around anyway, let me do it,” Jian Suixin offered, but Jun Xizhi insisted. Without further argument, Jian Suixin nodded in agreement.
After giving instructions, Jun Xizhi resumed her work.
Her focus was on the ingredients before her, yet she couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her intently from the side.
Turning around, Jun Xizhi saw Jian Suixin still standing by the doorway, gazing at her with wide, expectant eyes. She was holding her phone and occasionally tapping on the screen, seemingly writing something.
Jun Xizhi chuckled. “Didn’t you say you were going to rest? What are you writing?”
Jian Suixin replied sheepishly, “Taking notes. I’m not doing it myself yet, but I want to learn. I’m watching you first.”
“You’re so eager to learn?”
“Of course,” Jian Suixin said earnestly. “Once I learn to cook, you won’t have to lift a finger anymore. I’ll make meals for you.”
Jun Xizhi laughed. “Then I’ll be living the good life.”
“With me around, you definitely will,” Jian Suixin assured her.
Jun Xizhi stopped trying to shoo her away and continued cooking. Occasionally glancing at Jian Suixin, she couldn’t help but think that the girl’s obedient demeanor resembled that of a fluffy little animal, patiently waiting by the kitchen door for its owner to feed it.
Jun Xizhi was amused by her own thoughts, a smile curving her lips.
Jian Suixin, who had been diligently taking notes, looked up and saw Jun Xizhi suddenly smiling.
Jian Suixin’s face was a question mark: ?
“What’s wrong, Elder Sister?”
Jun Xizhi had no intention of sharing her whimsical thoughts. She shook her head with a smile. “Nothing.”
As the dishes came off the stove, Jian Suixin helped set the table, deeply impressed by Jun Xizhi’s culinary skills. “Elder Sister, you’re amazing! When did you learn to cook like this?”
“I lived alone for several years,” Jun Xizhi explained. “You have to learn eventually, even if you don’t want to.”
Jun Xizhi’s cooking was truly exceptional. The mouthwatering aroma alone could make you want to eat an extra bowl of rice. After tasting it, Jian Suixin couldn’t stop praising the dishes.
Jian Suixin recalled the first time they met, when she had confidently presented her own cooking to Jun Xizhi.
What an embarrassing memory.
At the same time, her admiration for her Elder Sister grew even stronger.
Jian Suixin ate another piece of sparerib. The meat was tender, soaked in rich broth, and effortlessly fell off the bone. The savory, fragrant flavor filled her entire palate.
Mentally listing all of Jun Xizhi’s virtues, she couldn’t help but sigh to the System, “How can someone be this perfect?”
“She’s so beautiful, with such a gentle personality, and even her cooking is amazing.”
“Oh, and her name is so lovely too.”
“She’s practically perfect.”
Unable to contain her admiration for her Elder Sister, Jian Suixin began rambling endlessly to the System. The System, hearing her praise, chimed in with a few compliments of its own.
System: “She seems like a really nice person, huh?”
Jian Suixin nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, yes! I haven’t met someone so gentle in ages.”
“And she’s beautiful too?”
Jian Suixin nodded vigorously. “Absolutely the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.”
“Her name is lovely as well?”
Jian Suixin couldn’t agree more. “Exactly! Everything about her is perfect.”
“What’s her surname?”
Jian Suixin looked puzzled. “Jun, of course. Did you forget?”
The System chuckled twice. “I suddenly remembered a saying I wanted to share with you, Host.”
In a good mood, Jian Suixin casually agreed. “Go ahead, what is it?”
The System’s tone shifted, becoming oddly sarcastic. “Some people have been saying for a long time: ‘Those with the surname Jun~ not a single good one among them~~~'”
Jian Suixin froze mid-chew, realizing…
Shut up!
Numb, Jian Suixin retorted, “Who said that? It certainly wasn’t me.”
With that, she selectively ignored the System and continued chatting with Jun Xizhi as if nothing had happened.
The System silently watched the drama unfold, thinking: Heh, you really know how to double standard.
