Chapter 2.1: Taking You Home

Bai Tingshou was stunned for a moment. The tension that had been building since last night snapped at that moment. He propped his head and tried to nod naturally.

After scolding Qi Jingyang, Director Wang noticed their little interactions but didn’t say anything. He confiscated their comic book, looked around, and, seeing nothing unusual, gave a few routine reminders before leaving with Li Yansui.

As Li Yansui walked away, she sneakily turned back and saw Bai Tingshou staring at her. She smiled at him, and Bai Tingshou quickly looked away, trying to focus on something else.

Qi Jingyang, who witnessed the interaction, was amazed. “That’s rare. This usually cold friend of mine doesn’t show much interest in guys or girls. Except for study-related issues, he usually just nods. On WeChat, he has privacy settings, so it’s nearly impossible to find him unless he adds you first.

So, in Hengshan First High School, Bai Tingshou’s WeChat is not a secret, but getting him to add you is a miracle.

“Hey bro, are you two using some kind of secret code?” Qi Jingyang asked curiously.

Before Bai Tingshou could respond, Xu Mu jumped in, “Hey, do you two know each other?” Everyone had seen their interactions.

Naturally, the other students were curious and gave them inquisitive looks with ambiguous expressions. They rarely saw Bai Tingshou interact with girls, let alone these subtle gestures.

“Yeah, we know each other,” Bai Tingshou replied honestly but didn’t elaborate.

What could he say? Former classmates from Shengzhe? Ex-girlfriend? Childhood friend?

Before Xu Mu could figure it out, the girl next to him knocked on his head and said, “You’re dumb. Didn’t you say that girl transferred from Shengzhe? Think about which school Bai Tingshou used to attend.”

Xu Mu suddenly understood, “Oh, so they went to the same school before. No wonder Bai Tingshou is so friendly.” Xu Mu was always straightforward, saying whatever was on his mind without holding back.

The other students: “…”

Bai Tingshou: “…”

Everyone found Xu Mu’s words awkward.

Xu Mu continued gossiping, “Bai Tingshou, do you know why that girl transferred schools?”

That girl had earned the nickname “Doll.” Especially after meeting her in person, everyone agreed it fits—she was pretty and looked like a doll.

All eyes were on Bai Tingshou, and Xu Mu looked like he was eagerly seeking the truth.

Bai Tingshou glanced at Xu Mu and nonchalantly said, “I don’t know. Haven’t seen her in a while.”

His explanation was plausible, but no one believed him.

Everyone looked enlightened.

Though Bai Tingshou had heavy coursework, he excelled in his studies and patiently helped classmates with their questions. He also participated in class activities, so the class atmosphere was quite harmonious.

Naturally, the other students sometimes joked around with him.

Bai Tingshou ignored their reactions, lowered his head, and seriously started reading his book.

Qi Jingyang, who witnessed everything, covered his mouth and laughed until his stomach hurt.

Bai Tingshou glanced at him and said calmly, “If you keep on laughing, you can leave.”

Qi Jingyang immediately fell silent and pretended to read his book.

Xu Mu realized he couldn’t get anything out of Bai Tingshou, so he stopped prying and turned to his own assignments.
