Sweet Kiss - Chapter 6.1
Li Yansui and Bai Tingzhou parted ways at the staircase.
After all, he wasn’t in a hurry, but she was.
Just as Bai Tingzhou had said, since the freshmen had to attend a lecture today, the sophomore and senior students didn’t have to go down. They were free to rest in their classrooms.
Because of this, the moment Li Yansui stepped into the classroom, the originally lively atmosphere instantly fell silent. The students who had been gossiping about her just moments ago didn’t dare provoke her anymore. At most, they let out a cold snort or shot her a glare before turning back to their games.
Li Yansui glanced at them, inwardly scoffing, but she didn’t let a trace of emotion show on her face.
Idiots.
As soon as she sat down, Xiao Xi leaned in and whispered, “Are you okay?” Her eyes were filled with genuine concern.
Li Yansui’s gaze swept over the snacks on Xiao Xi’s desk—there was only one piece left in the bag, meaning she had already eaten.
Li Yansui waved a hand dismissively. “I’m fine.” But inside, she was unsettled.
Something didn’t add up. Normally, Xiao Xi would have relayed the teacher’s message, telling her to go to the office.
Xiao Xi visibly relaxed and patted her chest in relief. “That’s good to hear.”
The cold air from the air conditioner blew directly at Li Yansui, making her shiver a little, but she wasn’t in the mood to care.
After hesitating for a moment, she poked Xiao Xi and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, “The teacher didn’t say anything about me?”
Monday’s morning self-study was usually supervised by the homeroom teacher. If she had been absent, Lin Ai should have noticed immediately.
“Don’t worry, nothing happened!” Xiao Xi then eagerly recounted everything that had happened after she and Bai Tingzhou left, mimicking the tone and expressions of the people involved with remarkable accuracy.
When Li Yansui heard the line “What are you guys doing? Developing some kind of biochemical weapon?” she couldn’t hold back her laughter. Her shoulders shook uncontrollably.
Xiao Xi looked at her, confused.
It took a while for Li Yansui to recover.
She patted Xiao Xi’s shoulder and said seriously, “Xiao Xi, I’m telling the truth—you’d make a great actress.”
She genuinely meant it. Xiao Xi usually seemed like a bookworm, but when she imitated people, she captured not just their tone but their entire demeanor—sometimes even funnier than the real person.
Xiao Xi blushed at the compliment, stammering, “I-I’m not that good…” but her eyes betrayed a hint of longing.
Li Yansui shook her head and gave her a thumbs-up. You can do it.
“Then what happened next?” she asked.
This time, Xiao Xi returned to her usual soft-spoken self, murmuring, “Everyone said you went to the infirmary. When Teacher Lin heard that, he just nodded and didn’t say much. But before class ended, he reminded us to look out for you in case you needed help.”
Xiao Xi paused for a moment, then added, “Don’t worry, they won’t expose you. I heard them badmouthing you this morning. If they dare snitch, I’ll tell the teacher!” She was getting more and more worked up, as if she couldn’t wait to rush to the office and report that Li Yansui was being bullied.
Warmth spread through Li Yansui’s heart. She smiled and patted Xiao Xi’s shoulder. “Thanks, Xiao Xi. But don’t worry, I won’t waste my time on those petty people.” She playfully winked as if to say, Relax.
Xiao Xi was amused and laughed out loud. “Mhm!”
Actually, if Xiao Xi really reported them, those troublemakers would surely retaliate once she was gone.
She didn’t want to drag others into her own problems.
Besides, Xiao Xi truly saw her as a friend.
Meanwhile, Bai Tingzhou, who had parted ways with Li Yansui at the staircase, was now standing backstage at the school auditorium, preparing his speech.
The audience below was abuzz with chatter.
“I heard from a senior that the student giving the speech today is Bai Tingzhou.”
“What’s that senior’s name?”
“I think it’s…”
Before the student could answer, a girl behind him scoffed. “Are you dumb?”
She then confidently declared, “That senior’s name is Song Wannin!”
“Oh, right! That does sound like the name. I heard from others that Senior Song is the most famous beauty at Hengshan First High School. To make sure I don’t miss a single glimpse of her later, I even brought binoculars!” The guy’s voice was filled with pride, completely unconcerned about keeping it down.
Bai Tingzhou, however, didn’t hear a single word of the commotion below.
His mind was still stuck on what Li Yansui had said on the rooftop.
“Because of you.”
The gentle breeze had lifted the strands of her hair, her eyes shimmering like a sky full of stars. The soft curve of her lips was enough to make anyone fall into her orbit.
The more Bai Tingzhou thought about it, the stronger the strange flutter in his heart became.
“What are you thinking about?” A gentle voice sounded behind him.
Bai Tingzhou snapped out of his thoughts, adjusted his expression, and turned around—only to see Song Wannin.
The reason Song Wannin was known as the school’s top beauty wasn’t just because of her fair skin and delicate features. She was also remarkably talented—fluent in piano and dance, excelling in her studies despite her extracurriculars.
On top of that, her family background was enviable.
Her mother was the youngest board director of Hengshan First High School, and her father was the chairman of the Song Corporation. As the only child, she had been cherished since birth.
Even her name had been carefully chosen after much deliberation by her entire family.
Today, Song Wannin wore a simple outfit—a white blouse paired with a short skirt. Yet, with her tall, slender figure, she carried it effortlessly, looking as stunning as ever.
“Sorry, I didn’t hear you,” Bai Tingzhou said apologetically.
Song Wannin smiled. “It’s fine. But… is something on your mind?”
Bai Tingzhou hadn’t expected her to ask that. He didn’t plan on explaining, so he simply nodded.
“Yeah.”
A single word—concise and to the point.
Song Wannin knew better than to pry.
Instead, Bai Tingzhou took the initiative to break the silence between them. “Qi Jinyang asked me to pass you a message—meet him at the usual spot at noon.”
Song Wannin, who had been going over her speech, immediately crossed her arms and let out a cold laugh. “Why didn’t he tell me himself?”
Her words were sharp, but beneath them was a faint sense of grievance.
“Because you blocked him,” Bai Tingzhou replied expressionlessly. His tone was steady, not rushed, but every word landed clearly in her ears.
Song Wannin blinked.
Oh.
Right.
That did happen.
She must have been too furious at the time to even remember.
Realizing this, she felt a bit sheepish.
Quickly regaining her usual composed demeanor, she smiled at Bai Tingzhou. “Got it. Tell him I’ll be there.”
“Alright.” Bai Tingzhou nodded and was about to leave when he suddenly stopped. After a brief hesitation, he added, “About what happened back then—I hope you’ll at least give him a chance to explain.”
Song Wannin was slightly taken aback, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes before she quickly concealed it.
“I understand.”
