Sweetheart, My Shadow Guard - Chapter 2
“Little Jiu, you weren’t actually… by that fat pig, were you?”
“Fourth Brother, use your brain. Could he even beat me in a fight?”
“Then you…”
Heaven knows how terrified he was when he entered Qing Jiu’s room earlier and saw that scene.
Qing Jiu had been lying in the bathtub with his eyes closed, his face flushed red, his body covered in bruises—marks left after being thoroughly loved, like a shattered beauty.
Horrified, he quickly grabbed the clothes nearby and draped them over Qing Jiu, then lifted him out of the tub and carefully placed him on the bed.
Seeing that Qing Jiu had developed a high fever and had already passed out, he frantically prepared medicine. After brewing the medicine, he even remembered to cook a bowl of plain congee.
Qing Jiu sipped the congee slowly, unsure how to explain.
“Little Jiu, don’t be afraid. In our Hidden Shadows Pavilion, you’re the youngest, and now you’re… Just tell Fourth Brother. No matter who it was, I’ll make sure he gets a dose of sterility medicine.”
If I tell you, with that attitude of yours, you’ll be as good as dead.
“Fourth Brother, I’m fine.”
Logically, given Qing Jiu’s combat skills, this mission shouldn’t have ended like this. It seemed he had encountered someone along the way—someone of high status. He’d have to investigate later and then…
Knock, knock, knock—
Suddenly, a knock at the door interrupted Hidden Four’s increasingly dangerous thoughts.
Outside, Hidden One asked, “Little Jiu, are you in there?”
“I am. Come in, Big Brother.”
Hidden One pushed the door open and entered, seeing Qing Jiu lying on the bed with Hidden Four standing beside him. Worry laced his voice as he asked, “Is Little Jiu injured?”
“No. Does the master have a new mission?”
“Yes.”
Truthfully, Qing Jiu’s skills were more than enough for the Shadow Guard Pavilion, but for some reason, he had chosen the Hidden Shadows Pavilion instead.
Yet, he paid unusual attention to Shangguan Yunhan’s affairs. So whenever a new mission arose, as long as Qing Jiu was free and capable, Hidden One always sought him out first.
Hidden Four asked curiously, “What’s the mission?”
“To find someone.”
“???”
That’s it??
Hidden One pressed his lips together, staring at Qing Jiu. “Were you at the Yuanfeng Inn last night?”
Qing Jiu’s face instantly paled. He lowered his head and answered weakly, “Yes.”
“Why are you asking that? You scared Little Jiu!”
Hidden Four assumed Hidden One’s question had reminded Qing Jiu of last night’s unpleasant memories, making him turn pale with fright, so his tone carried a hint of reproach.
Ignoring Hidden Four, Hidden One continued, “Just now, Xuan Yi came to relay a message. The master ordered us to immediately search for a woman and said we might soon have a new mistress. The person the master is looking for… well… is you, isn’t it, Little Jiu?”
“What? Hidden One, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
Qing Jiu took a deep breath, raised his head—his face devoid of color—and looked at Hidden One. His hands clenched the bedsheet tightly as he replied, “It’s me. How did you respond to Xuan Yi, Big Brother?”
“Don’t worry. I only came to confirm with you first. I just told Xuan Yi we’d arrange the search immediately.”
“Can one of you explain what’s going on?”
Hidden One glanced at Hidden Four. “Xuan Yi’s exact words were: ‘Find out who stayed in Room Tian-1 on the third floor of Yuanfeng Inn last night.’ Understand now?”
“That’s Little Jiu?! Then, then…”
Oh no, oh no, oh no! So the person I was just about to drug was actually my own master??? Amitabha Buddha, what a sin, what a sin!
Little Jiu, Fourth Brother really can’t help you with this one. It’s Fourth Brother’s fault, Fourth Brother didn’t protect you well enough, wuwuwuwuwu, Fourth Brother almost got himself killed too.
