Teasing the Strawberry-Flavored Baby Alpha (ABO, GL) - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
After recharging their energy, Shen Tian spotted a haunted house nearby and got curious. She asked Shen Xian, “Mommy, is that fun?”
Shen Xian smiled and said, “That’s a haunted house. I’m worried it might scare you.”
The haunted house in the amusement park was designed for kids and had different levels. The easiest one wasn’t actually scary—just a bit dark.
“I’m not scared, Mommy! I’m super brave. I can protect Little Sister Lu!” Shen Tian patted her little chest and said.
Lin Qinghan, amused, glanced at her kid and then asked Lu Ningwan, “Little Lu, are you scared? If you are, we don’t have to go in.”
Lu Ningwan shook her head. “I’m not scared.” She knew since she was four that ghosts were just people pretending, so she wasn’t afraid at all. Since her little friend wanted to go, Lu Ningwan would follow Shen Tian.
Seeing Lu Ningwan say she wasn’t scared, Shen Tian immediately tugged at Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan, acting cute. “Mother, Mommy, Little Sister Lu said she’s not scared, and I’m not either. I’m the bravest! I’ll protect everyone!”
Shen Xian smiled at her kid’s confident promise. “Alright, if you and Little Lu aren’t scared, let’s go check it out.”
Shen Tian happily hugged her mommy and reminded Lu Ningwan, “Little Sister Lu, you have to follow me closely. I’ll protect you!”
Lu Ningwan looked at the girl with dimples, claiming she’d protect her, and felt a warmth in her heart. “Okay, I’ll follow Tiantian.”
Shen Tian had never been to a haunted house before, so she was excited going in. But as soon as the door opened, her little face turned pale. She had been holding Lu Ningwan’s hand, leading the group, but seeing how dark it was inside, she quickly hid behind Lu Ningwan.
“Little Sister Lu, it’s so dark in here. I’m a little scared~” Shen Tian said in her tiny voice, hiding behind Lu Ningwan, completely forgetting her earlier promise to protect everyone.
Lu Ningwan wasn’t scared. She thought Shen Tian, clinging to her clothes, was pretty cute. She was the older sister, after all, and should protect her younger friend. So, she comforted Shen Tian while walking forward. “Don’t be scared, Tiantian. I’m here.”
“Okay.” Shen Tian peeked around, cautiously stepping forward, afraid something might pop out.
This amused Shen Xian, who patted her daughter’s head. “Tiantian, don’t be scared. It’s all fake. Your mother and I are in front and behind you. You two don’t need to worry.”
Hearing her mommy would lead the way, Shen Tian felt less scared. Her little face peeked out from behind Lu Ningwan, looking around.
The inside was just a bit dark, with small animals displayed on both sides. Under the red and green lights, they looked fiercer than usual.
Seeing they were her favorite animals, Shen Tian puffed up her chest a little and held Lu Ningwan’s hand, walking together. “Little Sister Lu, don’t be scared. They’re just animals. I’m here.”
Lu Ningwan smiled, not pointing out Shen Tian’s earlier fear. They held hands, following Shen Xian, and soon reached the exit.
Once out, Shen Tian tilted her little face up. “So that’s a haunted house? Not scary at all.”
Shen Xian pinched her daughter’s cheek. “Oh, really? Then who was hiding behind Little Lu just now?”
Shen Tian shook her head, looking at Shen Xian innocently. “I don’t know. Definitely not me~”
Her words made Lu Ningwan and the others laugh. Shen Tian didn’t mind being laughed at and joined in.
After leaving the haunted house, it was already afternoon. Even without a nap, Shen Tian wasn’t tired and was happily chatting with Lu Ningwan.
“Where do Tiantian and Little Lu want to go next?” Shen Xian asked, looking at the two kids in the middle.
Shen Tian tilted her head, thinking. “I don’t know. Little Sister Lu, where do you want to go?”
Lu Ningwan’s face flushed. She actually wanted to visit a bookstore. She’d mentioned reference books to her uncle before, but he didn’t agree to buy them, and she didn’t want to ask him again. The aunties were great, but they’d already gone out of their way to bring her here today, so she felt shy about asking.
Lin Qinghan noticed the kid’s hesitation and patted her head. “Little Lu, you can go anywhere you want. Didn’t we say yesterday? No need to be shy with Auntie.”
Lu Ningwan looked at Lin Qinghan, feeling her tone was like her mother’s, with no hint of impatience. She glanced at Shen Xian, who was also smiling, waiting for her to say where she wanted to go.
Lu Ningwan clutched the hem of her clothes with both hands and said softly, “Auntie, can we go to a bookstore?”
“Of course.” Lin Qinghan smiled and continued, “Loving bookstores is a great habit for kids. Let’s get some reference books and extracurricular reading for you and Tiantian. Alright, it’s decided. Let’s go.”
“Okay! I’ve finished my storybooks. Mother, buy me more storybooks,” Shen Tian said, swinging Lu Ningwan’s hand, showing her excitement.
“Sure, we’ll get everything Tiantian likes, okay?”
“Yup~”
Soon, they arrived at the bookstore. To keep the kids from getting lost, Shen Xian followed Shen Tian, and Lin Qinghan followed Lu Ningwan.
Shen Tian picked out several storybooks, and Shen Xian added a few reference books for her.
Lu Ningwan went to the section for third and fourth-grade reference books, flipping through them. After a few pages, she confirmed her earlier thoughts—these were more suitable for her. The lessons at school were too simple.
Lin Qinghan was surprised to see Lu Ningwan looking at third and fourth-grade books. “Little Lu, you can understand these already?”
“Yup, I’ve pretty much mastered first and second-grade stuff.” Lu Ningwan looked at the higher-grade books, unsure how to ask Lin Qinghan. The aunties had already done so much by bringing her out, and she felt shy asking them to spend more money. But these books were really important to her—she had no one to rely on but herself.
Seeing Lu Ningwan hesitate in front of the reference books, Lin Qinghan initially thought she didn’t know what to choose. But after a while, as Lu Ningwan kept looking at different books, Lin Qinghan realized the sensitive kid wasn’t unsure—she was too shy to trouble her.
“Little Lu, pick out a few. If you learn fast, you can help Tiantian with anything she doesn’t understand on weekends. Don’t worry about saving Auntie’s money. Take more.” Lin Qinghan rubbed Lu Ningwan’s head, feeling sorry for a kid so young worrying about money.
Lu Ningwan’s ears turned red. She understood Auntie was trying to ease her burden, and she really needed these books. She decided she’d repay the aunties when she grew up.
After some internal debate, Lu Ningwan picked up a few reference books and shyly smiled at Lin Qinghan. “Thank you, Auntie.”
“No need to be so polite. My Little Lu is so good.” Lin Qinghan patted Lu Ningwan’s back, wondering why such a cute kid wasn’t liked by her uncle and auntie.
After buying the study books Lu Ningwan wanted, Lin Qinghan added some extracurricular books, totaling over a dozen in her arms.
Shen Tian and Shen Xian also bought plenty of books, mostly storybooks Shen Tian picked out, which Shen Xian happily covered.
“Done shopping?” Shen Xian asked Lin Qinghan, then smiled at Lu Ningwan.
Lu Ningwan pursed her lips, nodding shyly.
Shen Xian smiled, then, as if remembering something, asked Lu Ningwan, “Ningwan, do your uncle’s two kids like studying?”
Lu Ningwan wasn’t sure why Shen Xian asked, but her cousins loved playing on phones and watching TV. When their auntie made them study, they always looked miserable. She shook her head at Shen Xian. “They like playing more.”
Shen Xian happily pinched her kid’s cheek, leaving Shen Tian confused, not understanding why her mommy suddenly pinched her.
“Alright, no more talk about others. We’ve played all day and are tired. Let’s pay and go home.” Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan carried the books to check out, with the two kids following obediently.
Shen Tian leaned close to Lu Ningwan and asked, “Little Sister Lu, what books did you get?”
“Just some third and fourth-grade reference books. The lessons now are a bit simple. I know them already.” Lu Ningwan squeezed Shen Tian’s hand.
Shen Tian’s face lit up with surprise. “Little Sister Lu, you’re amazing! Third and fourth-grade books? I definitely can’t understand those yet.”
“It’s okay. If you don’t get something, you can ask me. Once I’ve learned it, I can teach Tiantian.”
“Yup!” Shen Tian’s eyes sparkled with admiration. Her Little Sister Lu was so cool, mastering such hard third and fourth-grade books.
Soon, the four returned home. Lin Qinghan helped put Lu Ningwan’s books in Shen Tian’s room. “Little Lu, these reference books and extracurricular books are all yours.”
Lu Ningwan hadn’t expected the five or six extracurricular books were for her too. Her face flushed as she asked, “All for me? But, but I already feel bad having Auntie buy the reference books.”
“No need to feel bad. We’re family, remember? On weekends and holidays, Auntie and Tiantian will come pick you up to stay with us. Don’t be so shy.” Lin Qinghan smiled.
Lu Ningwan’s eyes widened, her eyes red and disbelieving. “Really? Won’t it trouble Auntie and Tiantian? Will my uncle agree?”
Lin Qinghan smiled, pulling the little girl into a hug. “So many questions, Little Lu. Let Auntie answer one by one. It’s all true. You’ve met everyone at home—they all like you and won’t find it troublesome. We’re happy to have you here. And don’t worry about your uncle. Your Auntie Shen will talk to him.”
