Lu Ningwan listened to the wails of Lu Deyu and Lu Zixuan from inside the house. A faint smile appeared on her small face. She thought about how Aunt Shen asked her about the studies of her uncle’s children that day. It turned out Aunt Shen asked to buy them reference books.

Making her annoying cousin and cousin sister suffer made Lu Ningwan quite happy inside. However, she felt a bit sorry for Aunt Shen wasting money.

Lu Ningwan neatly arranged her reference books and extracurricular books on the desk. Her little legs swung back and forth as she read a newly bought extracurricular book. With the desk lamp, Lu Ningwan felt her eyes were much more comfortable while reading. She read until past ten at night.

Lu Deyu and Lu Zixuan were urged by Lu Ming and Zhang Ruohua to wash up. Today, they were extremely upset. They were forced to complete a math test paper sent by Shen Xian. Their faces wrinkled like bitter melons.

Curtains hung on the glass of the sliding door on Lu Ningwan’s balcony side. At night, Lu Ningwan could pull the curtains, which gave her a bit of privacy. This was a treatment Lu Ningwan never had before.

Through the curtains, Lu Deyu saw the desk lamp still on at Lu Ningwan’s side. He whispered to Lu Zixuan beside him, “Look, Lu Ningwan is still reading. She’s so annoying. If she wants to study, she can study herself. Why drag us into it?”

“Exactly, and her aunt is annoying too. I don’t want to do test papers,” Lu Zixuan complained bitterly.

While they grumbled, Lu Ming happened to come over. “What are you two talking about?”

“Nothing,” Lu Deyu quickly replied dryly.

“Learn from Ningwan. She’s still reading at this hour,” Lu Ming said.

Lu Ming’s words made Lu Zixuan and Lu Deyu purse their lips in sync, but they didn’t dare say anything. They feared Lu Ming would make them do more test papers tomorrow.

After helping his son and daughter wash up, Lu Ming spoke to Lu Ningwan at the balcony from the living room, “Ningwan, go to bed early after studying.”

“Okay, Uncle,” Lu Ningwan replied.

Lu Ningwan glanced at her little rabbit clock. It was almost ten-thirty at night. If Lu Ming had treated her like this from the start, Lu Ningwan thought she would have been very happy. Unfortunately, her uncle’s change wasn’t for her. In the end, he was thinking about his family’s future. Lu Ningwan decided she must not let her uncle’s family cling to Tiantian’s family. Next time they met, she would remind the aunties.

Lu Ningwan propped her small face with her little arms. She thought about playing with Tiantian, Little Sister Lu, and the aunties on the weekend. She had just left Tiantian’s house, but she already missed it. However, she didn’t dare hope for too much or trouble Tiantian and the aunties too much. After all, they had already helped her a lot.

That night, Lu Ningwan slept the soundest at her uncle’s house. Before, sleeping on the balcony without a door made her feel somewhat unsafe. Now, she could lock the door from the inside and pull the curtains. She slept soundly in her little world.

As days passed, Lu Ningwan going to Shen Tian’s house on weekends became a routine for both families. Soon, Shen Tian and Lu Ningwan faced their first exam after starting elementary school. Lu Ningwan was confident about the exam. She already knew the first-grade material. Her only worry was the parent-teacher meeting. Although her relationship with her uncle and auntie was in an awkward phase of surface peace, Lu Deyu and Lu Zixuan also needed someone to attend their parent-teacher meetings. Lu Ningwan knew she wasn’t that important to her uncle and auntie. They wouldn’t skip attending Lu Zixuan and Lu Deyu’s meetings for her.

On Friday after school, Lu Ningwan was picked up by Shen Tian’s family as usual. While sleeping at night, the little one turned her small face and quietly asked, “Little Lu sister, are you asleep?”

Lu Ningwan had her eyes closed. When Shen Tian called her, she turned over. Under the light of the small night lamp, she saw Shen Tian looking at her. “Not yet, what’s wrong, Tiantian?”

“I just feel like Little Lu sister doesn’t seem very happy today,” Shen Tian thought and said. She always felt Little Lu sister was a bit distracted today.

Lu Ningwan didn’t expect Shen Tian to notice. She thought she had hidden her emotions well.

“Little Lu sister, can you tell Tiantian what’s wrong?” Shen Tian reached out her small hand, tugged Lu Ningwan’s pajama sleeve, and asked.

Lu Ningwan looked at the girl who cared about her. She spoke her heart, “I’m thinking about the parent-teacher meeting. Uncle and Auntie will definitely go to Lu Deyu and Lu Zixuan’s meetings. Then I’ll be left alone.”

Shen Tian’s big eyes blinked. She suddenly had an idea. “Little Lu sister, I have a solution! I have Mother and Mommy, so we can share one to attend your parent-teacher meeting.”

“That would be too much trouble for Auntie. I already come to your house two days a week, which is troublesome enough. I don’t want to cause more trouble for Auntie,” Lu Ningwan thought and shook her head. She told Shen Tian, “Tiantian, don’t tell the aunties about this, okay? It’s actually fine if no one attends my parent-teacher meeting. Really, it’s okay. It’s late, let’s sleep.”

Shen Tian looked at Lu Ningwan. Worried Lu Ningwan wouldn’t be at ease, she nodded, “Okay.”

Because Shen Tian was thinking about the parent-teacher meeting, she woke up early the next day. Seeing Lu Ningwan still asleep, she thought for a long time and decided to tell Mother and Mommy about the parent-teacher meeting. Then she would apologize to Little Lu sister since she promised not to tell.

With that thought, Shen Tian quickly got up and washed. When she went to find Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan, they were still asleep. The little one climbed onto their bed, tugging Shen Xian’s pajamas one moment and pinching Lin Qinghan’s hand the next. Soon, Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan were woken up by the little one.

Shen Xian rubbed her eyes and pulled the mischievous little one into her arms. “Tiantian, why are you up so early today? You even woke Mother and Mommy?”

Shen Tian snuggled in her mommy’s arms and acted cute. “Mommy, it’s because of the parent-teacher meeting. Little Lu sister’s uncle and auntie will attend their children’s meetings, leaving Little Lu sister alone.”

Shen Xian knew what the little one meant and teased her, “So what does Tiantian want to do?”

Shen Tian climbed out of Shen Xian’s arms and threw herself into Lin Qinghan’s arms. “I have Mother and Mommy, but Little Lu sister is alone. I want to lend Mother or Mommy to Little Lu sister. Can you, Mother, Mommy?” Shen Tian blinked her big eyes cutely while speaking.

Lin Qinghan pinched the little one’s face in her arms. “You’ve already arranged us, huh? No wonder you came to act cute so early. It’s for your Little Lu sister.”

Shen Tian snuggled against her mother. “Mother, can you? Little Lu sister will definitely be very happy.”

“Okay, since our Tiantian says so, of course it’s fine. I’ll go to Little Lu’s parent-teacher meeting, and your mommy will go to yours,” Lin Qinghan said with a smile.

Shen Tian immediately gave her mother and mommy each a kiss happily. Then she bounced back to her room.

When Shen Tian returned, Lu Ningwan had just woken up. Seeing Shen Tian back, she asked curiously, “Tiantian, you got up so early today.”

Shen Tian glanced at Lu Ningwan guiltily, preparing to confess. “Little Lu sister, I’m sorry.”

Lu Ningwan was puzzled. “What? Why are you apologizing?”

Shen Tian pursed her little lips, then gathered courage to speak. “I told Mother and Mommy about the parent-teacher meeting. They agreed. Mother said she’ll attend your parent-teacher meeting. I… I promised you yesterday I wouldn’t tell. Little Lu sister, I’m sorry.”

Lu Ningwan looked at the little girl. Her heart felt mixed emotions. Clearly, Shen Tian did it for her good, yet she was nervously apologizing.

Lu Ningwan felt warmed by this silly little sun. “No need to say sorry. You were helping me. Silly or not?”

Seeing Lu Ningwan wasn’t angry and was smiling at her, Shen Tian sighed in relief and smiled too. “Great, I was afraid you’d be mad. Hehe, Little Lu sister, don’t worry. My mother is great. She’ll definitely do what she promised!”

“Okay, I’ll thank Auntie later,” Lu Ningwan said. After speaking her heart, she felt much lighter. She was only six and a half. How could she not want a parent by her side at the parent-teacher meeting? But this would trouble the aunties again. She owed Tiantian and the aunties so much.

During breakfast, Lu Ningwan’s gaze occasionally drifted to Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan. Soon, she met Lin Qinghan’s smiling eyes. Seeing Lin Qinghan looking at her, Lu Ningwan’s face turned red, and she lowered her head to drink porridge.

After her face cooled down, Lu Ningwan secretly glanced at Shen Xian. Shen Xian looked back. Caught sneaking a look, Lu Ningwan immediately buried her face in her bowl to drink porridge again.

Shen Xian found Lu Ningwan amusing, thinking this child was as cute as her own little one.

The connection between people was truly神奇. Initially, Shen Xian agreed to let Lu Ningwan come over mostly because of her daughter. After nearly two months with this little friend, Shen Xian already saw her as another cute little one in the family. Three daughters—thinking about it made her happy.

Lu Ningwan didn’t know what the aunties were thinking. She only felt her heart pounding from being caught sneaking looks at them.

The little one didn’t know about Lu Ningwan’s rich inner thoughts. Seeing Lu Ningwan’s red face, she asked with concern, “Little Lu sister, your face is so red. Is it too hot?”

The little one’s words made Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan burst out laughing.

The little one asked curiously, “Mother, Mommy, what are you laughing at?”

“Nothing, nothing,” they replied.

The little one looked at Lu Ningwan beside her, feeling like Little Lu sister’s face got even redder.
