- Chapter 13 - The Master of Being Scolded
At three in the afternoon, the once scorching sunlight was obscured by thick clouds on the horizon. Within just an hour, the sky gradually darkened, and a cool breeze began to blow.
The three barrels of sweet soup in the stall had been emptied, and the candy balloon sticks on the side were sold out. Yet, a long line still buzzed with excitement in front of the tricycle.
Ning Yu sat leisurely on a chair, legs crossed, holding the last bowl of sweet soup that Mu Qiuyan had left for her. She took a sip to moisten her throat before lifting her gaze to the nervous, blushing girl in front of her.
“Don’t be nervous. If you hate me, say it out loud. Let all the words you want to curse at me spill out.”
“Ready?”
The girl nodded, and Ning Yu flipped the hourglass on the small table beside her. “Then let’s begin. Time waits for no one.”
The sand in the hourglass flowed quickly, and before long, a minute had passed. The girl had barely managed to hurl a few insults before regretfully moving to the end of the line, tossing a coin into the plastic box in Mu Qiuyan’s hand before leaving.
Ning Yu covered her mouth as she yawned, wiping away the tears that had welled up in her eyes before calling out, “Next.”
Mu Qiuyan stared at the plastic box now filled to the brim with coins, shaking it lightly. The weight was substantial, and the clinking sound of the coins colliding could only be described with one word—
—Vulgar.
This was probably what it meant to reek of money.
She poked Ning Yu, who was resting her chin on her hand, listening attentively to the insults, and whispered in her ear, “Is this really necessary? The sweet soup is sold out, and our task is technically over.”
Ning Yu, listening to the system’s special “scumbag points” notification ringing in her mind, shook her head. “Not enough yet.”
Mu Qiuyan: “Not enough for what?”
Ning Yu: Not enough for medicine money.
“Ahem, they’re clearly enjoying this. Whether online or offline, I’m going to get cursed at anyway. At least here, I’m getting paid for it. I’m broke, so I might as well earn some extra cash.”
Mu Qiuyan’s eyes widened, her expression complicated. The words “Are you out of your mind?” nearly slipped out before she forcefully swallowed them back. Maybe seeking out insults was some kind of new, bizarre hobby.
But as time passed, Ning Yu started feeling drowsy.
This was a live broadcast, after all. The girls held back, not daring to curse too harshly for fear of getting banned. Their verbal attacks lacked firepower, and to Ning Yu, their words barely stung. Besides, it wasn’t her who had done those things—it was the original owner of this body. Even though they shared the same name, she saw no reason to empathize with the accusations.
Still, since she was now in this body, she had to endure the curses calmly.
“Your unrepentant attitude is the most infuriating thing! You don’t seem the least bit sorry,” one girl snapped, glaring at her with eyes that seemed ready to shoot flames, her indignation palpable.
“You’ve hurt so many omegas with your actions. How dare you still join a dating show?”
Ning Yu perked up at her outburst, rubbing her forehead helplessly. “I truly am sorry. I’ve already apologized to every girlfriend I wronged and received their forgiveness. I’ve genuinely realized my mistakes.” Her tone was sincere.
After Ning Yu crossed over that day, she immediately set about resolving the romantic debts left behind by the original owner. She must have apologized and begged for forgiveness countless times.
Fortunately, the original owner’s playboy aura was impossible to hide. These girlfriends seemed to have expected this—some broke up with her outright, others cursed her out, and a few took a hefty breakup fee before promptly blocking Ning Yu.
While drowning in debt and enduring harsh scolding, Ning Yu still had to apologize with a smile, her inner misery left with nowhere to vent.
Mu Qiuwan froze at the words, turning to look at Ning Yu.
The girl sneered, “Who knows if it’s even real?! Did you ever think, when you were toying with their feelings, that one day you’d be condemned by everyone?”
Ning Yu exhaled lightly, leisurely picking up her sweet soup to continue drinking, letting the words go in one ear and out the other.
So satisfying! This sister’s roasting is absolutely savage!
Â
Â
Finally, someone with some fighting spirit—I was about to say I’d step in myself.
Â
Â
But did Ning Scum A really apologize to those girls? Did her girlfriends actually forgive her?
Â
Â
After that incident, didn’t some claiming to be her exes expose that Ning Yu refused to pay any compensation?
Â
Â
Wasn’t that debunked as fake accounts stirring trouble? So far, no confirmed ex has come forward to expose her. I’d say Ning Scum A’s apology attitude seems decent enough.
Â
Â
Can apologies really make up for everything? Maybe they’re afraid of being doxxed or threatened by fans if they speak out.
Â
This is getting ridiculous. Does Ning Yu even have fans? Could she really have that much influence to threaten so many people? The tabloids said some of her exes were wealthy heiresses—why would they fear some no-name like her?
Not that Ning Yu’s character was particularly reliable—she was just useless in every conceivable way.
Let’s all calm down. Ning Yu’s been taking this abuse for so long without losing her temper—that alone shows her apology is sincere. Anyone with weaker mental fortitude would’ve been driven to depression by now.
Â
Â
At least she’s better than those celebrities who can’t handle the slightest criticism, ears only open to their fans’ flattery. Who knows what skeletons are hiding behind that mask—one poke and the whole facade collapses.
Â
Â
Speaking of this sharp-tongued girl, she looks familiar… and this questioning style feels slightly recognizable…
It’s Li Mengmeng, I spotted her earlier. No idea why she suddenly showed up here—on that talk show “Roast If You Dare,” she was always the most vicious.
“Do you treat omegas as mere emotional playthings, showing them no respect—is this stemming from alpha arrogance?”
“Given how omega emotions are easily swayed by pheromones, as a top-tier alpha, have you ever used yours to coerce them?”
A minute had passed, but the girl only grew more heated, her accusations escalating rapidly.
Mu Qiuwan frowned deeply as she watched the girl rant without pause. Glancing at the nearby camera, she sensed something off.
The girl’s aim seemed to be berating Ning Yu, but her eyes kept darting toward the camera—no fewer than five times. Was she… chasing clout?
Mu Qiuyan was deeply concerned, but when she glanced at Ning Yu, who remained completely oblivious and even pulled out a mirror and lipstick from her pocket to touch up her makeup, she couldn’t help but feel amused.
Both exasperated and amused.
Did this person have absolutely no sense of danger?
Li Mengmeng eagerly awaited the moment when Ning Yu would explode in rage. Her words grew increasingly provocative, and with the camera right beside them, if Ning Yu were to lose her temper and resort to violence, Li Mengmeng was certain that the next day’s headlines would be dominated by the scandal of an alpha assaulting an omega.
Unlike the previous rumors of promiscuity, this kind of sensitive topic would be a bombshell, guaranteed to erase Ning Yu from the entertainment industry for good.
Meanwhile, Li Mengmeng, who had boldly exposed Ning Yu’s true nature, would rise to fame overnight. As the victim, she would also garner public sympathy—multiple benefits in one stroke. She wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away.
But no matter how long she waited, no matter how much she cursed until her throat went dry, Ning Yu showed no reaction at all.
Finally, when Ning Yu uncrossed her legs and straightened up, Li Mengmeng thought the moment had come—only for her to start applying lipstick?!
What was the point of all that ranting then?
Li Mengmeng had never encountered such a crushing defeat in her career of verbal takedowns. Usually, her targets would be left battered, questioning their life choices, or even breaking down in tears. But this Ning Yu remained utterly unfazed.
Frustration burned in her chest. How dare this scumbag alpha act so calm and composed, as if she were above it all, making Li Mengmeng’s furious tirade seem like—a clownish performance!
Glancing at the camera, Li Mengmeng felt even more humiliated and awkward. Staring at Ning Yu’s elegant, serene face, she gritted her teeth and reached out to slap the mirror away.
“I’m talking to you! Can’t you at least—”
Before she could finish, her hand was intercepted.
Mu Qiuyan’s icy gaze swept over her, her tone devoid of warmth. “Miss, resorting to physical actions isn’t very civilized, is it?”
