- Chapter 8 - First World (8) Scumbag Stepfather x Yandere Adopted Son.
Ding! Protagonist detected. Unlocking original world plot summary!
The corridor buzzed with activity, voices rising and falling in a constant hum. Yet the boy’s voice, like a pebble dropped into water, sent ripples through the air without blending into the surrounding noise.
The Home Room Teacher smiled and waved, beckoning the boy to her side.
Feng Hechi didn’t turn around. The sound of footsteps approached from behind, finally stopping beside the woman.
A flood of newly unlocked original world plot details surged into his mind, his ears ringing. Yet his face remained expressionless.
When the System’s voice finally ceased, he glanced over.
The boy was dressed casually in a simple white T-shirt paired with loose-fitting sweatpants, his feet clad in trendy designer sneakers. His skin was a healthy tan, and a shallow dimple appeared at the corner of his mouth when he smiled. With deep-set features and bright, clear eyes, he exuded an effortless charm.
In that single glance, Feng Hechi understood: this boy had undoubtedly been popular his entire life, among both boys and girls.
The Home Room Teacher patted Shen Wenyu on the shoulder and introduced him to Feng Hechi and Lu Cang: “This is Shen Wenyu, also a classmate of yours. He came to school a few days early to help move books and clean. His grades are exceptional too!”
The teacher’s praise overflowed with enthusiasm.
Hearing the name, a parent who had been passing by suddenly stopped and turned to face Shen Wenyu, their eyes lighting up with surprise. “You’re Shen Wenyu? Oh, what a pity my child isn’t in your class! I was hoping they could learn from you!”
Teacher Zhang and the parent stood on either side of Shen Wenyu, their voices overlapping as they showered him with compliments. Feng Hechi listened intently, glancing at Shen Wenyu, who remained composed and smiling.
Initially, Feng Hechi hadn’t fully understood why the mission had labeled Lu Cang as the villain. It’s just about increasing hatred points, he thought. Why give Lu Cang the villain title?
But the newly unlocked plot details from the original world suddenly made everything clear.
Shen Wenyu: the true protagonist of this world.
First place citywide on the high school entrance exam, exceptional grades, wealthy family background, parents are both high-level executives, and a charismatic social butterfly who thrives in any social setting.
During high school, Lu Cang encountered Shen Wenyu, who consistently outshone him in every aspect. Coupled with his increasingly violent adoptive father, Lu Cang’s psyche grew twisted. He constantly clashed with Shen Wenyu, inciting his clique to bully and spread rumors about him, but Shen Wenyu effortlessly neutralized each attempt.
Ultimately, Lu Cang failed the university entrance exams and was forced to remain in the small town, continuing to live with his adoptive father. Under relentless oppression, his emotions spiraled out of control. He stabbed his adoptive father with a knife, causing fatal bl00d loss, and was subsequently imprisoned.
This was the complete plot the System had just narrated in his ear.
“Why didn’t you tell me about something this important when I first arrived in this world?” he asked, genuinely puzzled. He had assumed the mission world lacked any pre-existing narrative.
Apologies, Host. My programming dictates that the original plot explanation is automatically triggered only upon detecting the protagonist’s presence.
Who programmed this thing, anyway?
Feng Hechi’s lips twitched slightly. He asked, still somewhat perplexed, “If Shen Wenyu is the protagonist, why are the cultivation conditions based on Lu Cang’s hatred toward me, rather than toward the protagonist himself?”
Your role is the target’s cultivator, making your influence on him paramount. Had the original host not gradually escalated his actions against the target, the target would not have met such a tragic end.
“I see.”
Feng Hechi pondered for a moment, then glanced at Lu Cang beside him.
Lu Cang, bullying others?
He found it hard to imagine.
Even after growing taller, Lu Cang remained slender, with a gloomy expression and a perpetually downcast gaze. He rarely smiled, making him seem like the perfect target for bullying.
At that moment, Lu Cang stood silently beside him, not uttering a word.
Ever since Shen Wenyu had appeared, he hadn’t spoken. His overgrown bangs obscured most of his eyes, leaving only his tightly pressed lips visible.
If Shen Wenyu was the protagonist, a rift between him and Lu Cang was inevitable.
But perhaps Feng Hechi could intervene and accelerate the timeline.
After exchanging pleasantries with the other parents, Shen Wenyu finally noticed Lu Cang standing alone through a gap in the crowd.
He paused, realizing that the Home Room Teacher had been speaking to Lu Cang earlier. Shen Wenyu had initially only intended to greet the teacher, but the surrounding parents had swarmed over, inadvertently ignoring Lu Cang.
He stepped forward, approached Lu Cang, and smiled.
“Hello, classmate. My name is Shen Wenyu.”
Lu Cang stared at him coldly.
The radiant smile, the understated yet meticulously crafted clothes that clearly weren’t cheap, and the aura of self-assuredness that radiated from within—it all made Lu Cang bristle.
He disliked the person standing before him.
Compared to this man, he felt like a grub living in the shadows, cautious and meticulous yet utterly repulsive.
He remained silent, his lips pressed tightly together, showing no intention of replying.
Shen Wenyu noticed his reaction, and the smile on his face gradually stiffened.
Observing their interactions, Feng Hechi’s lips curved into a perfectly calibrated smile. He stepped forward, naturally positioning himself between the two.
His gaze settled on Shen Wenyu, and he spoke with the tone of a concerned parent: “So you’re Shen Wenyu? My child is in the same class as you. I’ll have to tell him to learn from you.”
Feng Hechi was impeccably dressed today, wearing a striped shirt paired with loose-fitting jeans. His thin-rimmed glasses lent him an air of refined civility. To those unaware of his true nature, he would appear to be an approachable, well-educated parent.
Shen Wenyu stared at him in surprise for a moment before breaking into a smile and offering a modest thank you.
Feng Hechi sighed theatrically, feigning concern. “Lu Cang is so withdrawn and doesn’t like talking to people. If only he were more like you. Parents would have so much less to worry about with a child as outstanding as you.”
Lu Cang froze, Feng Hechi’s disdainful tone piercing his ears.
His hands clenched into fists at his sides, his back teeth grinding unconsciously against the inside of his cheek.
This man, he thought, pretends as if none of this concerns him.
Yet it was he who made me this way.
It was he who ruined my family.
As expected, even with his superficial changes, his true nature remains utterly repulsive.
Detected increase in hatred value. Current target hatred value: 69.7%.
The System’s notification rang in his ear. Feng Hechi’s expression remained unchanged, the smile on his lips deepening. He turned and patted Lu Cang’s shoulder.
The gesture instantly reminded Lu Cang of the time in ninth grade when his parents had been called in after a fight. His face darkened, and he violently slapped Feng Hechi’s hand away. His lips parted slightly as he spat out two cold words:
“Disgusting.”
The words were soft, but perfectly audible to the other two people present.
Shen Wenyu froze, a look of embarrassment spreading across his face. He instinctively glanced at Feng Hechi, but Feng Hechi’s expression remained impassive, as if the insult hadn’t been directed at him at all.
Lu Cang squeezed past the two men through the narrow gap between them and strode into the classroom without looking back.
Shen Wenyu’s mouth hung slightly open as he watched Lu Cang’s retreating figure, then turned to Feng Hechi. While he was usually adept at handling interactions with classmates and their parents, he had never witnessed such a tense, confrontational atmosphere before.
The man before him, however, seemed unfazed. He turned to Shen Wenyu with a smile. “I’ll be going now, Wenyu. Let’s meet again sometime.”
His voice was deep and magnetic, the way he said Shen Wenyu’s name tinged with amusement. As Shen Wenyu met his gaze, those dark, phoenix-shaped eyes seemed to possess an alluring charm. Shen Wenyu froze for a moment before snapping back to reality, his ear tips flushing slightly as he hurriedly replied.
He didn’t notice the gaze piercing through the window from the side, fixed directly on them.
Lu Cang sat in the back row on the left side of the classroom, against the wall. He preferred this spot, which gave him a sense of security in the vast room.
He packed his backpack and shoved it into the narrow space beneath his desk. Around him, unfamiliar classmates were introducing themselves, searching for companions. Lu Cang remained quietly in his seat, his gaze involuntarily drifting toward the window on his right.
The window faced the corridor, where he saw Feng Hechi still standing, talking to Shen Wenyu.
Lu Cang narrowed his eyes, staring at the pair outside.
He watched Feng Hechi lean slightly toward the boy, who was a bit shorter than him, and say something with a gentle smile—a smile Lu Cang had never seen on his face before.
The boy seemed momentarily stunned, then quickly responded with a few hurried words, watching Feng Hechi’s figure disappear from view. Even after Feng Hechi had vanished from the window, Shen Wenyu remained frozen in his previous posture, lost in thought.
Lu Cang lowered his gaze, feeling an inexplicable surge of irritation. He grabbed a pen from his pouch and flipped open the newly distributed textbook to write his name. After writing his name in two books, he realized he was using a red pen.
He paused, then swiftly capped the red pen and switched to a black one, his movements so quick they seemed almost like he was trying to hide something.
