- Chapter 10 - The Princess's Hero (Liliana's Perspective)
“You…!? No, more importantly, it’s dangerous! Please, escape quickly!”
Liliana couldn’t help but shout towards the boy who suddenly appeared before her.
He wore simple clothes made of cloth, and a dagger was sheathed at his waist. Based on his attire, he seemed like just a student who happened to be there by chance.
With those clothes and that weapon, it would be impossible for him to face a demon species.
Her words were intended to prevent him from getting caught up in their situation.
“Prepare the binding magic!”
“――――!?”
The boy shouted with intense determination, then rushed straight toward the monster.
He skillfully avoided the enormous tail that was swung at him with brutal force. His movements were so precise, as if he had predicted the monster’s attack. Liliana couldn’t help but hold her breath at the sight.
The boy then dove into the monster’s range, placed his hand over the wound, and began chanting.
“――Heal!”
“Grroooo!?”
The monster let out a scream. It seemed that the healing magic, a holy attribute spell, had struck at the demon species’ weakness. Not only did its self-regeneration stop, but it also sustained damage.
“……”
Liliana was at a loss for words at that scene.
Her surprise was obvious, but what shocked her even more was something else.
From the speed with which he rushed in and the output of the magic he cast, his abilities were clearly not extraordinary.
He was just a student who had likely been dungeon-crawling.
And yet, despite facing an obviously stronger foe, he charged forward without hesitation.
The resolve and courage with which he moved, unshaken, were clearly transmitted to her.
Her heart skipped a beat as she watched him.
(――No, I can’t just stand here and be lost in thought.)
There was still so much she didn’t understand, but there was no time for that. She decided to think about it later.
Following his instructions, Liliana squeezed the remaining magic power from her body and began to form the spell.
Ice patterns began to form above her head, signaling the completion of her spell.
Meanwhile, the boy continued to cast healing spells, further weakening the monster.
The creature, unable to bear it any longer, raised its massive weapon, preparing to crush them in one swift motion—just as Liliana shouted.
――Now!
“Icicle Bind!”
“――Grrr!?!!?”
Chains of ice shot out, halting the monster’s movement. Liliana’s binding magic had hit its mark at the perfect moment.
The boy, seeing this, smiled faintly before chanting the most powerful spell he had cast so far.
“――Heal!!!”
With a deafening sound, the monster’s body was enveloped in a brilliant white light from the inside.
Its massive form crumbled and disappeared, leaving behind only a fragment of magic stone.
Before they could even cheer in victory, Liliana noticed something strange about the boy.
His body wavered, and his knees buckled as if he were about to collapse.
“Are you alright!?”
Panicked, Liliana rushed to his side and gently caught him. But the boy had already lost consciousness.
Yet, there was a satisfied smile on his face, as though he had fulfilled his duty.
Indeed, this boy had risked his life to protect them.
“Thank you… so much.”
Liliana, unable to even learn his name, muttered words of gratitude over and over. Rose, standing beside her, also bowed deeply in respect.
They then carried the unconscious boy out of the dungeon and transported him to the academy’s infirmary. Afterward, they immediately reported the incident to the academy director.
“I can’t believe such an event occurred… Are you unharmed?”
“Yes. This person risked his life to protect us.”
As Liliana gestured to the boy lying on the bed, she answered the director’s question. While the details were still unclear, it was certain that the demon species attack was connected to something related to the Icefelt Empire.
Though she apologized for the situation occurring within the academy grounds, the director gave a gentle smile and shook his head.
“This is not your fault. Please, don’t worry about it.”
The director’s kind words allowed Liliana to feel a sense of relief. However, when he quietly added, “Similar things happen quite often…” she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
That aside, the reality was that despite leaving the Empire, Liliana’s life had been targeted. This was something that had to be taken seriously.
Due to the reports and investigations, her studies abroad were temporarily suspended, and it was decided that she would return to the Empire.
Days passed.
The heavy feeling in Liliana’s heart came from the fact that the boy who had saved them still hadn’t woken up.
According to what she had been told later, the boy’s name was Allen Claude.
As evidenced by his use of the Heal spell, his job class was [Healer].
He was a first-year student like Liliana, and it seemed his entrance exam results weren’t particularly impressive. He had barely passed with average ability.
To think that such a person had risked his life to fight for them made Liliana feel an even deeper sense of gratitude.
“The school doctor says it’s just aftereffects of magic depletion.”
“Yes, they said he’ll regain consciousness in a few more days, but…”
Liliana quietly nodded at Rose’s words.
However, even as they spoke, the time for her return to the Empire was rapidly approaching.
The fact that she wouldn’t be able to thank him in person was something that weighed heavily on Liliana’s heart.
Then, as they traveled in the carriage back home, Rose suddenly asked.
“Your Highness, what will you do now?”
Rose continued, gazing at the sunset outside the window.
“If attacks are happening in other countries as well, we won’t be able to fulfill our original mission. Perhaps it would be safer to stay in the Empire where there’s more protection.”
Rose’s words were true.
At this point, there was no need for Liliana to leave the country.
But…
“Of course, I’ll return.”
After taking care of matters back home, Liliana was determined to come back to this place. The events that had transpired made her realize that she needed to become even stronger. There was no better place for that than Stella Academy.
And more than anything…
“I need to thank him directly.”
She could still see Allen’s peaceful sleeping face in her mind’s eye.
When they next met, she would introduce herself properly and express her gratitude from the heart.
(Please wait for that time, Allen-sama…)
As the carriage rolled under the crimson sky, Liliana made a quiet vow to herself, thinking of the hero who had saved her.
