The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 12
When You Song arrived at work on Monday, the symptoms of weakness in her limbs and headache had mostly subsided. However, the crowded elevator, combined with the lingering smell of breakfast from those who had rushed to eat before coming in, made her stomach churn uncomfortably.
Xu Ye had already arrived at her workstation early. Due to her pregnancy, moving around was inconvenient, so she made it a habit to arrive ten to twenty minutes ahead of time when the office was still quiet, making things easier for her.
When she saw You Song walk in with a pale face, she exclaimed in surprise, “Director You, you look terrible! Are you feeling unwell?”
You Song shook her head. The nausea, coupled with having skipped breakfast, made her say to Xu Ye, “I’m fine. Just make me a coffee and bring it to my office.”
Xu Ye nodded and grabbed a small bun from her desk, pressing it into You Song’s hand with a smile. “Drinking coffee on an empty stomach isn’t good. Have this first, Director You. I’ll go make your coffee.”
Looking at the soft bun in her hand, You Song’s expression softened slightly. She gave a faint smile and said, “Thank you.”
After You Song went into her office, Xu Ye headed to the break room to prepare the coffee.
In the big city, people survived on milk tea and coffee, so the break room was already packed early in the morning. Xu Ye had to wait a while before it was her turn. You Song preferred lattes with extra milk and sugar, so Xu Ye poured in half a cup of milk before carrying the coffee out.
As she passed the workstations, she noticed Jian Qiuyi had already arrived. The young woman was engrossed in her phone but looked up when she saw Xu Ye with the coffee. Knowing it wasn’t for her, she asked curiously, “Should pregnant women be drinking coffee?”
Xu Ye chuckled. “This isn’t for me. It’s for Director You.”
“For You Song?”
Jian Qiuyi’s eyes lit up. She set her phone aside and stood, taking the cup from Xu Ye with a bright smile. “From now on, I’ll handle Director You’s coffee. You just sit tight and don’t run around too much.”
Xu Ye didn’t protest as Jian Qiuyi took the coffee she had just made. Smiling, she said, “Alright. Director You might not be feeling well today, she looked really pale when she came in. When you deliver the coffee, ask if she needs anything else.”
“She’s unwell?” Jian Qiuyi frowned, muttering under her breath, “Why does she always neglect her health? How many times is this now.”
Xu Ye didn’t catch it and gave her a questioning look. Jian Qiuyi quickly composed herself and smiled. “Never mind. I’ll take this to her. You rest.”
Watching Jian Qiuyi push open You Song’s office door without knocking, Xu Ye sighed softly and returned to her seat.
Without a greeting or hesitation, Jian Qiuyi strode in as casually as if it were her own home which, in a way, it was, since this was her family’s business.
You Song glanced up from her documents, her gaze settling on the coffee in Jian Qiuyi’s hand. Her tone was indifferent as she said, “Just leave it there.”
Jian Qiuyi set the coffee down but leaned in, studying You Song’s face. “Xu Ye was right. You really do look awful.”
You Song leaned back in her chair, massaging her temples as she looked at the person before her.
As expected, Jian Qiuyi immediately started bombarding her with fawning questions.
“What’s wrong?”
“Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
“Do you need to go to the hospital?”
“Every time I see you, you’re either sick or running a fever. President You, why are you so fragile?”
By the end, Jian Qiuyi even wore a helpless expression as she said, “Even Omegas aren’t as delicate as you. President You, are you just not up to it?”
“Whether I’m ‘up to it’ or not has nothing to do with you.” You Song refused to entertain the fool’s questions any further and said irritably, “If there’s nothing important today, don’t disturb me. Understood?”
“I heard you loud and clear.” Jian Qiuyi crossed her arms and grinned at You Song. “But whether I follow through is up to me.”
You Song felt a dull throb in her head.
Jian Qiuyi, noticing her weak state, suddenly asked, “Did you skip breakfast?”
You Song didn’t answer, but the look in her eyes confirmed Jian Qiuyi’s suspicion.
Living alone, she usually ate out, and her fridge was practically empty nothing but bottled water and instant meals. On top of that, You Song hadn’t been feeling well lately. Getting up early was already a struggle, let alone making breakfast.
Though there were breakfast spots near the office, parking was inconvenient, so You Song had decided to tough it out and combine breakfast with lunch.
Jian Qiuyi sighed dramatically, picking up the coffee she had just set down and taking a sip. She wrinkled her nose. “The instant coffee here is terrible. Don’t drink it. I’ll go grab you some breakfast and a proper coffee.”
You Song blinked in surprise. “There’s no need for that. Instant coffee is fine.”
Jian Qiuyi smirked and pushed the half-drunk cup toward her. “I already took a sip. Still want it?”
You Song stayed silent. Truthfully, she wasn’t keen on sharing a drink either. Relenting, she muttered, “Half sugar, with milk. Iced.”
“Got it.” Jian Qiuyi’s eyes curved into crescents. “I’ll head down now. Call me if you need anything.”
Watching Jian Qiuyi leave as abruptly as she had arrived, You Song exhaled in exasperation. This girl was clingier than she’d expected.
Jian Qiuyi returned quickly with coffee and breakfast. As she set the steamed buns on You Song’s desk, she added, “Iced coffee is too harsh first thing in the morning, so I got it at room temperature. Wasn’t sure what filling you’d like, so I went with beef.”
Without looking up, You Song gave a noncommittal hum. “The clothes I borrowed over the weekend are at the dry cleaner’s. Should be ready tomorrow.”
“Then just give them to me tomorrow.” Seeing that You Song had nothing else to say, Jian Qiuyi reluctantly left the office after one last lingering glance.
Only after she was gone did You Song turn her attention to the coffee and buns. Setting down her pen, she picked up a disposable chopstick and took a bite.
Not bad…
Whether it was because of the lingering awkwardness from the weekend, You Song didn’t assign Jian Qiuyi any work for the rest of the day.
The morning meeting was over, and there wasn’t much to do in the afternoon. Jian Qiuyi lay bored on her desk, playing with the calculator, repeatedly pressing the ‘clear’ button over and over, much to the annoyance of Xu Ye sitting beside her.
“If you’re really that bored, why don’t you just play on your phone?” Xu Ye took the calculator away and said, “Director You is leaving soon. Since you don’t need to clock out, you can leave early.”
“She’s leaving?” Jian Qiuyi gave her a puzzled look. “Since when? Why didn’t she tell me?”
Xu Ye pointed at the WeChat chat window on her computer and said, “She just told me. Said she had something to take care of and was leaving early, but told us to clock out on time and message her if anything comes up.”
Perfectly fine, so why leave early?
Jian Qiuyi sat up straight, staring at the chat window on the computer. Sure enough, You Song had indeed given those instructions which was strange.
After all, You Song was a workaholic, clocking in at least five overtime days a week. Sometimes she’d even come in on weekends to handle work. So why was she suddenly leaving early today?
Just as Jian Qiuyi was puzzling over it, the office door across from them opened. You Song glanced at the two at the secretary’s desk and said calmly, “I’m heading out. Call me if anything comes up.”
