The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 16
Jian Qiuyi shot the two of them a fierce glare before reluctantly heading to the pantry to make coffee.
Seeing Jian Qiuyi leave, Zhang Zi cast You Song an amused glance and chuckled softly, “President You, what impressive authority you have. Even the daughter of President Jian obeys your every word. Truly the woman I’ve set my sights on.”
You Song turned to look at her and replied calmly, “President Jian placed her under me to temper her. If she wanted comfort, she came to the wrong place she should have gone to work as a receptionist.”
“Haha.” Zhang Zi laughed heartily, following You Song into the office before effortlessly settling onto the sofa. She patted the spot beside her and said in a languid tone, “President You, come sit. I have something good to show you.”
You Song studied the woman before her for a long moment, unsure what schemes she was harboring this time.
From their very first meeting, Zhang Zi had shown an intense interest in her. Every time they crossed paths at conferences, Zhang Zi would frequently come over to chat. And if it was a more relaxed setting like a dance, she’d practically cling to You Song for ages.
Though You Song disliked how clingy she was, she was well aware that Zhang Zi was a business partner. Their companies had close ties and shared mutual interests. Unless absolutely necessary, You Song had no intention of burning bridges.
So after a brief hesitation, she walked over and sat down beside Zhang Zi.
Zhang Zi’s expression softened as she leaned in with a gentle tone, “Remember that project I mentioned to you at the buffet reception?”
You Song recalled it vaguely and blinked at her. “We left in a hurry that day, so I didn’t get to hear the details.”
“I know you’re busy, which is why I came to see you in person.” Zhang Zi smiled sweetly, wrapping an arm around You Song’s waist. She inhaled the faint scent of her skin before whispering close to her ear.
You Song tilted her head slightly, giving her a sidelong glance before replying with practiced politeness, “President Zhang, it’s just the two of us in this office. There’s no need to be secretive, speak plainly.”
“Fine.” Zhang Zi didn’t take offense, still wearing that same cheerful expression. Though her hand lingered on You Song’s waist, her tone turned businesslike. “You know about the large-scale expo the government is hosting this year, right? I have connections that can secure a lucrative contract through intermediaries, but the order is quite substantial. I thought we could collaborate.”
So she was here for funding.
You Song asked, “Do you have any specifics? Let me take a look.”
Zhang Zi grinned. “Of course, but the documents are with another department head right now. I came personally to brief you.”
You Song considered it. Though Zhang Zi was unreliable in some ways, she had a knack for business. You Song’s company primarily dealt in precious metals, a high-capital industry. While precious metals didn’t depreciate overnight, the sheer volume of capital tied up in them made it difficult for any single company to handle large orders alone.
If Zhang Zi was serious about collaborating, it could be a win-win situation.
No wonder she came in person, she was trying to curry favor and see if she could win You Song’s approval.
Unfortunately, Zhang Zi’s scheme was misguided, You Song only cared about work, not people.
“Thank you, Director Zhang, for bringing me such good news.” You Song considered that no matter what, she should express gratitude for Zhang Zi’s ‘selfless contribution.’ Just as she was about to say something polite, the door to her office was suddenly kicked open with a loud bang.
Jian Qiuyi stood there holding two cups of coffee, her face dark as she glared at Zhang Zi and You Song.
When she saw Zhang Zi’s arm wrapped around You Song’s waist, the two standing uncomfortably close, she nearly exploded with rage. Striding forward, she set the coffee down, grabbed You Song, and pulled her protectively behind her before shouting at Zhang Zi, “What the hell are you doing?!”
Zhang Zi blinked, her gaze flickering between Jian Qiuyi and You Song. Then, as if realizing something, a smirk of amusement curled on her lips.
You Song knew exactly what that look meant, Zhang Zi had figured something out. That woman was sharp as a tack, the type to stir up trouble even when there was none. If she discovered the relationship between You Song and Jian Qiuyi, the whole company would be buzzing with gossip.
Jian Qiuyi didn’t have much to lose alpha’s romantic escapades were often spun into flattering tales. But You Song? She was just an employee, a high-paid one at that, but still a worker. If rumors like this spread, how could she ever navigate the business world again?
So before either of them could react, You Song immediately shook off Jian Qiuyi’s grip and snapped at her sternly, “Who let you in here? Can’t you see I’m discussing business with Director Zhang?”
Jian Qiuyi was taken aback. “What kind of business requires standing that close?!”
“What does that have to do with you?” You Song scowled, reprimanding her sharply. “You’ve been at this company long enough have you learned nothing? Your mother placed you under my supervision so I could teach you, not so you could talk back to me.”
Jian Qiuyi was furious. She had thought she was playing the hero, rescuing You Song from that lecherous Zhang Zi, only for You Song to turn on her like this!
Even my own mother never scolded me like this!
Seeing the storm brewing on Jian Qiuyi’s face, You Song turned back to Zhang Zi with an apologetic smile. “My apologies, Director Zhang. She’s young and doesn’t know any better. She’s not usually like this.”
Zhang Zi watched You Song with keen interest, clearly calculating something, before chuckling. “No need to be so harsh, Director You. Fresh graduates are still foolish they need to be taught everything. A little hardship will make sure they remember.”
“You’re absolutely right, Director Zhang. Everyone stumbles a few times when they’re young.” You Song shot Jian Qiuyi a cold glance. “Next time, knock before barging into my office. Don’t think just because you’re the CEO’s daughter, I’ll go easy on you. Here, we all work for the CEO, no one gets special treatment. Understood?”
On the surface, those words were directed at Jian Qiuyi, but You Song was really speaking to Zhang Zi. She needed Zhang Zi to understand that she was just an employee, no matter how tempting the deal, it was only about commissions and bonuses. She would never sell herself out to indulge Zhang Zi’s whims.
And Zhang Zi, sharp as ever, understood perfectly.
Fortunately, this wasn’t the first time she’d been rebuffed by You Song. Gracefully rising from the sofa, she said to You Song, “President You seems quite busy. I won’t disturb your parenting session then. Let’s catch up another time.”
You Song nodded with a light smile, replying, “Take care, President Zhang.”
Only after the woman left did You Song turn to Jian Qiuyi, whose face was flushed with anger. Before You Song could speak, Jian Qiuyi, assuming she was about to be dismissed too, burst out angrily, “Fine, I’m leaving! I shouldn’t have interrupted whatever you had going on with that woman!”
With that, Jian Qiuyi stormed out without another glance, slamming the door behind her.
Watching the door swing shut violently, You Song massaged her temples in frustration, at a loss for how to handle this young woman.
Jian Qiuyi was far too hot-headed for her own good.
