The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 17
You Song had initially thought Jian Qiuyi was just throwing a tantrum, but before long, Xu Ye knocked on her door to report that Jian Qiuyi had actually skipped work and left.
Hearing this, You Song was stunned. Xu Ye cautiously observed her and asked, “President You, did you and Qiuyi have a fight?”
You Song neither confirmed nor denied it, simply telling Xu Ye, “Just consider it as me sending her out on business today. Don’t mention that she skipped work.”
Xu Ye nodded and gently advised, “President You, Qiuyi is still young. Don’t be too hard on her. She might cool off and come back soon.”
You Song shook her head. “Never mind her. Go back to work.”
After Xu Ye left, You Song rubbed her throbbing temples and pulled out her phone to call Jian Qiuyi. But the stubborn girl seemed to have dug in her heels—You Song called several times, only to be ignored, and eventually, Jian Qiuyi even turned off her phone, her attitude unyielding.
Left with no choice, You Song sent her a message, but it too sank like a stone, unanswered.
Just when You Song thought the harmonious relationship they had painstakingly built had shattered, the next morning, as she was heading downstairs with her car keys, she spotted Jian Qiuyi waiting at the entrance.
Leaning against the car, Jian Qiuyi shot her a glance and said stiffly, “Don’t think me picking you up for work means I’ve forgiven you. I still remember how you scolded me in front of outsiders yesterday!”
You Song couldn’t help but chuckle as she walked over. “I was in the wrong yesterday, but you know Director Zhang is an outsider. How could you do something like that in front of her? If someone with ill intentions reported it to your family, just imagine—wouldn’t President Jian scold you even harsher than I did?”
Jian Qiuyi huffed. Truthfully, she had already figured things out by last night, but her pride wouldn’t let her apologize first. After stewing all night, she used driving You Song to work as an excuse to show up at her doorstep and hash things out.
Now that You Song had spoken, Jian Qiuyi’s anger faded, though she still shot her a childish glare. She reached into the car and pulled out breakfast, handing it over. “Bought this for you. Eat it on the way.”
You Song took it and frowned. “Why is it baozi again?”
“Because baozi are delicious. And aren’t you from the north? Don’t northerners love baozi and wheat-based foods?”
“…You actually remember I’m from the north?”
Jian Qiuyi grinned smugly, flashing a row of white teeth. “Who do you think I am? There’s nothing I don’t know.”
You Song couldn’t be bothered to indulge her childish gloating. She circled the car and got into the passenger seat, buckling up before digging into her breakfast.
Seeing her so unbothered, Jian Qiuyi relaxed and drove cheerfully toward the office.
Before they even arrived, You Song’s phone rang—it was Jian Xiangling calling. Instead of answering immediately, she glanced at Jian Qiuyi, who was focused on driving, and quietly turned off the screen.
“Why aren’t you picking up?” Jian Qiuyi hadn’t seen the caller ID, but she’d heard the ringtone and asked casually.
“It’s a spam call.” You Song finished the last bite of her baozi and said, “You attend the morning meeting later and summarize the key points for me. Just send them to my phone—I won’t be going.”
Apart from Monday morning meetings, You Song usually couldn’t be bothered to attend other early gatherings, considering them a waste of time. So when Jian Qiuyi agreed to go without hesitation, she didn’t think much of it.
After arriving at the company, Jian Qiuyi went to the meeting while Xu Ye worked at the secretary’s desk. You Song greeted them briefly before returning to her office to return the call she hadn’t been able to answer earlier.
Jian Xiangling picked up almost immediately. “Xiao Song.”
“Yes, President Jian,” You Song replied, holding her phone as she sat in her chair. “I was driving earlier and missed your call. Is there something urgent?”
“Nothing too important,” Jian Xiangling said. “I just heard you and Jian Qiuyi had quite a heated argument yesterday, so I wanted to check in.”
“I see.”
A shadow flickered in You Song’s eyes. She understood Jian Xiangling’s concern for her daughter, but whether it was the first-day overtime incident where Jian Qiuyi stayed out all night or yesterday’s argument, Jian Xiangling always reached out the very next day. It made You Song wonder if someone at the company was keeping tabs on her and reporting back.
During the last banquet, You Song had learned that Jian Qiuyi lived alone. So if Jian Xiangling knew these details, someone must have told her.
While You Song didn’t particularly mind being watched, the constant tattling wasn’t exactly pleasant.
Jian Xiangling seemed to sense her thoughts and chuckled. “I asked her aunt to keep an eye on things. Yesterday, she called me saying Jian Qiuyi had argued with you over something and was worried it might create a rift between you two, so she suggested I check in.”
The HR director was Jian Xiangling’s younger sister—Jian Qiuyi’s aunt. If she was the one reporting, then You Song really had nothing to say about it.
“Not at all,” You Song replied with a strained smile. “Qiuyi is young and spirited, and sometimes I speak too hastily. Arguments happen. There’s no need to worry, President Jian. We already talked this morning—her temper flares up fast but cools just as quickly. We’ve made up.”
“Really?” Jian Xiangling laughed warmly. “You really are something, Xiao Song. I’ve never had much time to manage my daughter, but with you overseeing her, I’m completely at ease. I just called to check—if she’s done anything wrong, don’t hesitate to discipline her. No need to spare my feelings.”
“Please don’t say that,” You Song said. “She’s usually very well-behaved. Yesterday was just me being a bit impatient. She’s a good kid—you don’t need to worry.”
“Mm, if that’s the case, I won’t keep you. Get back to work.”
Just as Jian Xiangling was about to hang up, You Song quickly stopped her and relayed Zhang Zi’s visit yesterday regarding a potential collaboration. After a moment of thought, Jian Xiangling said, “I see. Keep an eye on this for me. If it works out, that would be ideal.”
“I’ll stay on top of it,” You Song assured.
With business concluded, You Song assumed the morning meeting would be wrapping up soon and prepared to end the call. But before she could, Jian Xiangling added, “When Qiuyi comes back, tell her to come see me tonight. I tried calling her yesterday, but her phone was always off.”
You Song wasn’t sure what it was about, but she nodded and said, “I understand. I’ll let her know after her meeting.”
Not long after hanging up, Jian Qiuyi walked in with a notebook recording the meeting minutes, smiling brightly at You Song. “Sister, I’ve already organized everything and sent it to your WeChat. Is there anything else you need me to do?”
“Not for now,” You Song glanced at the information on her computer before looking up at Jian Qiuyi. “Your mom just called and asked me to tell you to go back to her place tonight.”
“Huh?” Jian Qiuyi was also surprised. After thinking for a long while, she muttered something unhappily that You Song couldn’t quite catch. Just as You Song was about to ask, Jian Qiuyi waved her hand and said with little interest, “Fine, I’ll go back tonight.”
