The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 18
Although You Song was curious, she didn’t ask Jian Qiuyi all day why she needed to go back, maintaining her reluctant demeanor.
As the workday neared its end, You Song was still working overtime at the company. Jian Qiuyi had long finished her tasks and was sprawled on the sofa in You Song’s office, playing on her phone. Despite You Song’s repeated reminders, Jian Qiuyi was simply too shameless, she had no sense of proper posture, whether sitting or standing. The fact that she could stay put in one place without causing trouble was already a blessing, so You Song let her be as long as she wasn’t making a mess.
More than ten minutes past quitting time, Xu Ye knocked on the door and brought in the documents You Song needed to review.
Passing by Jian Qiuyi, who was lounging on the sofa with her phone, Xu Ye couldn’t hide her curiosity, but she didn’t ask any questions. She simply placed the materials on You Song’s desk.
“Director You, all the documents you requested are here,” Xu Ye said. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll head off now.”
“Mm, go ahead,” You Song replied without looking up. “Be careful on your way home, and avoid crowded places.”
Xu Ye smiled warmly, nodded, and left.
Only after she was gone did Jian Qiuyi finally tear her eyes away from her phone. She stared curiously through the blinds at Xu Ye packing up to leave before turning to ask You Song, “Sis, who is Xu Ye’s partner? I’ve been here for days and haven’t heard her mention them even once.”
While some people prefer not to discuss their personal lives with colleagues, Xu Ye was an ordinary girl who loved gossip and all kinds of trivial chatter. Yet, Jian Qiuyi had never heard her say a word about the other parent of her unborn child.
She had no idea whether Xu Ye’s partner was a man or a woman, a beta or an alpha.
You Song had no interest in her employees’ private lives and replied without looking up, “Whoever her partner is, it’s none of my business. As long as she completes the tasks I assign with quality and efficiency, that’s all that matters.”
Then, glancing at the time, she frowned at Jian Qiuyi. “Didn’t your mother ask you to go back today? Why are you still here at this hour?”
“I’m waiting for you to finish work,” Jian Qiuyi said, tilting her head back over the armrest of the sofa to look at You Song upside down with a grin. “I’m your assistant and driver now. How can I leave before my boss does?”
You Song knew she was just using her as an excuse to avoid going back and sighed. “Just go already. I can get home on my own.”
But Jian Qiuyi stubbornly insisted, “No.”
You Song shot her a questioning look. “What exactly do you want?”
“I just want you to leave work earlier,” Jian Qiuyi said, sitting up and walking over to You Song. “I really don’t get you, sis. The company isn’t even yours, yet you work harder than I do. Look at my mom, she barely ever comes to the office, but she still keeps everything running smoothly.”
“That’s because there are managers like me helping her run things,” You Song said, flipping through a document. “I still have a lot to do. Stop using me as an excuse and go home. I can take a taxi when I’m done.”
Jian Qiuyi silently gazed at her, then after a moment’s thought, reached out to lift You Song’s chin, making her look up.
Before You Song could react, Jian Qiuyi leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her lips, carrying the faint scent of freesia!
Startled, You Song immediately pushed her away, sliding backward in her chair until it collided with the cabinet behind her, leaving her momentarily dazed.
“What are you doing?!”
You Song covered her mouth with her hand, staring at her as if she’d seen a ghost. “Couldn’t you at least give me a heads-up?!”
“If I want to kiss you, I’ll kiss you. Why would I need to announce it?” Jian Qiuyi smirked with the air of a rogue, grinning at You Song. “I just can’t stand seeing my girlfriend work overtime. If you keep doing this, I might just have to do something with you right here in the office.”
You Song shot her a glare and snapped, “Ridiculous.”
Though she scolded her inwardly, she knew Jian Qiuyi was an unruly child, someone who might not actually follow through on her bold words but was certainly capable of other mischief.
If she didn’t comply, there was no telling what might happen in the office.
Finally, she lowered her hand and fixed Jian Qiuyi with a stern look. “Fine, I won’t work overtime anymore. But don’t you dare pull something like this in the office again. If anyone sees us, neither of us will be able to explain it.”
Jian Qiuyi had half a mind to say, “If we can’t explain it, we might as well just admit it openly.” But seeing the look in You Song’s eyes, she knew that would only earn her another scolding. With a resigned sigh, she shrugged. “Got it. I’ll try to kiss you only when no one’s around. Happy now?”
You Song ignored her, shooing her off to get the car while she waited at the building entrance.
She packed up a few things, taking some important documents home to finish her work there.
The drive was stuck in traffic for over an hour, grating on Jian Qiuyi’s nerves. As she stared at the endless line of cars, she glanced at You Song and noticed she was still reviewing documents even in the car.
You Song flipped through printed pages, her fingers even paler than the paper. Her rounded fingertips and neatly trimmed nails had a faint pink hue beneath the nail beds, the bones of her hands elegantly defined enough to make someone want to hold them.
Jian Qiuyi remembered that wild night with You Song, how their fingers had intertwined as she listened to You Song’s breathless whispers against her neck.
Looking back, she really should have taken a photo just so this woman couldn’t pretend nothing happened after pulling her pants back on.
Feeling Jian Qiuyi’s gaze, You Song looked up from her papers and asked, “Why are you staring at me like that?”
If she said, “Because I want to have you,” she’d definitely get an earful.
After spending this much time with You Song, Jian Qiuyi had learned her temper well. Any remark that rubbed her the wrong way would earn her a frosty glare and a sharp tongue-lashing.
Was this woman raised on gunpowder or something? How is she even more explosive than me?
After a pause, Jian Qiuyi finally said, “I was just thinking your place is way too far from the office. Even without traffic, it’s a half-hour drive. With traffic? Forget about it. Why didn’t you buy something closer, like my apartment?”
You Song turned back to continue flipping through the papers, her tone indifferent as she said, “That apartment of yours must be worth tens of millions, right? I can’t afford something that expensive.”
“You’ve worked for my mom for so long, and you haven’t saved up tens of millions?”
“…You really are a spoiled rich girl.”
You Song closed the file and looked at her. “My annual salary is two million. After taxes, insurance, and housing fund deductions, I only take home a little over a million. When I first started working for your mom, I was making just a few thousand a month. Even after promotions and raises, it was only tens of thousands. What, am I supposed to save every penny without eating or drinking just to buy a house?”
Jian Qiuyi hadn’t considered all that. She looked at the woman beside her in slight surprise, her eyes widening. “I’m sorry, I always thought your salary was that high from the start.”
You Song didn’t blame her after all, as a rich second-generation heiress, she couldn’t possibly understand how ordinary people like her scrimped and saved to buy property.
She sighed leisurely and leaned back in her chair. “I’m not blaming you. I just want to say that money doesn’t come easy for me. I can’t afford a tens-of-millions apartment like yours. These things, if you’re born with them, you have them. If not, you might never have them in your lifetime.”
Jian Qiuyi nodded, only half-understanding, realizing she’d misspoken earlier. She apologized sincerely, “Sis, don’t be mad at me. I know work isn’t easy, I just didn’t think it through earlier.”
Born into privilege, Jian Qiuyi had been a young mistress since birth, attending elite schools from childhood, studying abroad, and mingling only with the wealthy from around the world.
At school, she’d encountered classmates who commuted by helicopter, friends who traveled the globe every holiday, and even she herself had always done as she pleased, never once worrying about money in her life.
To Jian Qiuyi, money was just a string of numbers, the only difference was how many zeros followed.
The two fell into silence. You Song sighed helplessly and reached out to ruffle Jian Qiuyi’s hair.
The girl’s hair was thick and lush, giving You Song the sensation of petting a large dog. Feeling the texture under her fingers, she said mildly, “I’m not angry.”
Jian Qiuyi’s eyes sparkled. She wanted nothing more than to press You Song against the seat and kiss her senseless, but just as she was about to speak, the car behind them honked impatiently. Only then did Jian Qiuyi notice the cars ahead had already driven far off.
Distracted, You Song withdrew her hand and reopened the file, saying, “Let’s drive.”
The entire ride, Jian Qiuyi remained discontent. Even after getting out of the car, she tried to steal a kiss, only for You Song to deftly evade it.
“You should head back quickly. Who knows what Madam Jian wants with you, don’t keep her waiting.” Before closing the car door, You Song reminded her a couple more times.
Jian Qiuyi pouted and drove off in a huff.
Back home, You Song had a simple meal before settling in with her files to work overtime. By the time she snapped out of it, it was already past 11 p.m.
Remembering Jian Qiuyi would be picking her up tomorrow, You Song washed up and went to bed early.
The next day, as You Song came downstairs, she saw Jian Qiuyi waiting for her by the roadside. For some inexplicable reason, her heart felt inexplicably happy. It seemed like having someone waiting for her unfailingly every morning was a truly wonderful thing.
“Morning.”
You Song didn’t let her emotions show on her face, simply walking over and greeting Jian Qiuyi in a light tone. “What’s wrong? You don’t look too good. Did something happen yesterday?”
“Hmph.” Jian Qiuyi crossed her arms, her expression displeased. “I hate Omegas more than anything in this world.”
