The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 4
Early the next morning, You Song arrived at her office ahead of schedule. She asked Xu Ye to make her a cup of coffee and began sorting through a few emails.
There was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” she said softly.
Jian Qiuyi pushed open the door to the Marketing Director’s office and saw You Song seated at her desk in a dark red blouse and long skirt. Sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling windows spilled in at an angle, casting a warm glow across her figure.
Her slightly curled hair shimmered with subtle highlights. It was unclear whether her hair was naturally light or if she had it dyed that way.
When You Song looked up, their eyes met.
That single glance sent a jolt through You Song, though she remained composed on the surface. She took a few seconds to study the person standing in front of her before speaking.
“Jian Qiuyi?”
“Yes.” Jian Qiuyi smiled lightly and looked at her. “Good morning, Director. We meet again.”
The way she said “Director” made You Song pause, her expression turning stern.
“This is a workplace. You should address me as Director You,” she said firmly.
“Of course, Director You,” Jian Qiuyi replied without complaint. She understood that company rules were different, and she knew where to draw the line.
Still, watching You Song act so strict and serious compared to that night made her want to laugh. She vividly remembered how clingy this woman had been, far more adorable than the cold, commanding person she was now.
In the large, quiet office, the two of them were alone. Jian Qiuyi remained relaxed and cheerful.
“Director You, since it’s my first day, what would you like me to do?”
You Song glanced at the clock on her desk.
“There are still a few minutes until the workday officially begins. My assistant will guide you through your tasks today. Start by observing and learning. If anything is unclear, you can ask me later.”
Hearing that, Jian Qiuyi’s smile faded slightly.
“You want me to be your assistant?”
“Is there a problem with that?” You Song leaned back in her chair and looked directly at her. “You may be the chairwoman’s daughter, but I have no idea what your skills are. It’s only right to start from the basics. If your performance is impressive, we can consider a different role later on.”
As You Song went on with her serious, reasonable-sounding explanation, Jian Qiuyi lost interest in pretending. She stepped up to the desk, placed her hand on it, leaned in slightly, and stared directly at her.
“Director You, do you really believe I came here just to be your assistant?”
You Song lifted her eyes and met her gaze, saying nothing.
On the outside, You Song looked calm and indifferent. Inside, she was already tense.
Jian Qiuyi resembled her mother a little. Her features were sharp, her brows confident, and her thin lips gave her a cold, aloof aura. Her face carried a certain elegance, along with a hint of boldness.
But she was still very young. Just over twenty. No matter how strong she tried to appear, there were limits.
Still, standing this close, You Song could faintly pick up the scent of her pheromones.
It was freesia. Fresh and elegant, with a delicate sweetness that made it hard to describe. It was the kind of scent that reminded her of blooming flowers, vibrant and fragrant, beautiful and assertive.
The moment she caught that scent, You Song was pulled back to the memory of that night. Her face paled slightly in frustration and embarrassment.
“Take your hand off my desk,” You Song said sharply. “If you don’t want to be my assistant, you’re free to leave. I’ll explain the situation to your mother myself.”
Jian Qiuyi laughed quietly and pulled her hand back.
“Alright, I’ll do it. It’s just an assistant job. But…” she paused for a moment, her eyes fixed on You Song. “You haven’t forgotten that night, have you? Aren’t you even a little curious why I’m here?”
You Song shot her a glare.
From Jian Qiuyi’s angle, she could clearly see You Song’s lifted eyebrows and those sharp, beautiful eyes. The hint of anger in her gaze only made her look even more stunning against her pale skin.
Jian Qiuyi felt her heart skip a beat.
How could a Beta look so charming?
“You’re good at provoking people,” You Song said coldly, lifting her chin. “I have a temper. So let me be clear. Do not bring up that night again. I won’t guarantee what I might do if you keep pushing.”
Jian Qiuyi blinked in mild surprise, then saw You Song press a button on her desk phone.
Xu Ye, who had just arrived, walked in. Her pregnant belly was now prominent. She looked at Jian Qiuyi with a slightly puzzled expression but quickly put two and two together. She smiled politely.
Jian Qiuyi’s eyes fell to Xu Ye’s rounded belly. She blinked again, this time with genuine curiosity.
“This is Jian Qiuyi, Chairwoman Jian’s daughter. She’ll be interning here for a while,” You Song said quickly. “You’ll be responsible for guiding her around today. Start by showing her around the company.”
Xu Ye’s eyes lit up. She smiled warmly.
“Miss Jian, I’m Xu Ye, Director You’s assistant.”
Jian Qiuyi had just opened her mouth to respond when You Song’s voice interrupted from behind the desk.
“If you’re going to chat, do it outside.”
Xu Ye shrank back slightly, but she maintained her warm smile. After politely acknowledging You Song, she gestured for Jian Qiuyi to follow her out of the office.
Once the door closed, You Song finally let out a long breath. She leaned back in her chair and turned to look out the tall windows. Her mind drifted into thought.
Meanwhile, Jian Qiuyi followed Xu Ye through every department. She was introduced to team leaders and executives, who already knew her identity and welcomed her warmly, chatting with her along the way.
Just before lunch, she finally finished her morning tasks and stretched comfortably in her chair.
Xu Ye, now in the later stages of pregnancy, couldn’t sit for too long. If she stayed in one position, her back would start hurting. Seeing that Jian Qiuyi had finished compiling the meeting notes, she smiled and praised her.
“Qiuyi, you’re incredibly efficient. This usually takes me the entire day.”
Jian Qiuyi smiled. “I type pretty fast. Besides, it wasn’t that complicated. Once you get the rhythm, it’s easy.”
Xu Ye praised her a bit more before saying, “We’ll be ordering lunch for Director You soon. Do you want to add your order too? We can have it delivered together.”
“What does Director You usually eat?” Jian Qiuyi asked curiously.
“Just something simple, like takeout,” Xu Ye replied after thinking for a moment. “She usually lets me pick. But she doesn’t like anything with a strong smell. No snail noodles, no durian, and no garlic chives.”
She really is picky.
Jian Qiuyi glanced toward You Song’s office and said to Xu Ye, “I’ll order lunch for her today. Let’s see if I can pick something she likes.”
“Alright,” Xu Ye agreed with a smile, not thinking much of it.
When You Song opened the lunchbox and saw a whole fried chicken inside, her face turned pale.
But then she realized this probably wasn’t Xu Ye’s doing. Xu Ye had worked with her for years and always chose standard, balanced meals. It had to be Jian Qiuyi’s idea.
You Song stared at the glossy, bare-skinned chicken nestled in the box and couldn’t help but frown.
Still, wasting food wasn’t her style. With a sigh, she put on the gloves that came with the meal, tore off a drumstick, and began eating it slowly. To her surprise, it was delicious—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. As she continued eating, she gradually came to accept it. By the time she finished the entire chicken, she finally tidied up her now chaotic desk.
She spent the rest of the afternoon in her office going through paperwork and later attended an online meeting. Just like that, the entire day slipped by.
When her work was finally done, it was well past office hours. Luckily, that chicken had been filling enough that she didn’t feel hungry. After shutting down her computer, she got ready to head home.
The office was nearly empty by now. You Song took the elevator to the underground parking lot, which was nearly deserted, with only a few cars scattered around.
As she stepped out of the elevator, she spotted a black motorcycle parked next to her car. Jian Qiuyi was leaning against it, scrolling through her phone, a sleek black helmet tucked under one arm.
Noticing movement, Jian Qiuyi looked up and smiled.
“Director You, working late today?”
You Song stood in front of her, her expression unreadable.
“Did you like the lunch I ordered for you?” Jian Qiuyi tucked her phone away, her smile widening. “I used to eat from that place all the time before I went abroad. It’s one of my favorites.”
Before she went abroad?
You Song did a quick mental calculation. That must have been back in her high school days.
So this little brat ordered from a place she used to frequent as a teenager?
“What are you doing here?”
You Song wasn’t the type to dwell too much. She had already eaten the food, so there was no point complaining now. She pushed the memory of the chicken aside and looked directly at Jian Qiuyi.
“You were waiting for me?”
“Yup.” Jian Qiuyi toyed with her helmet, then stepped closer with a grin. “I’ve been waiting over an hour. Do all your senior execise work this late? I saw the other department heads leave ages ago.”
“They’re them. I’m me.” You Song took a step back, folding her arms and frowning. “Keep your distance.”
But Jian Qiuyi didn’t stop. She closed the gap quickly and stood right in front of her.
“Jie,” she said softly, her tone suddenly gentle and playful. Her eyes curved into crescents as she smiled. “I called you Director You all day and treated you with respect. Now that the workday’s over, shouldn’t you show me a little warmth? Why are you still so fierce? That’s not how you were in bed the other night.”
