The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 5
As soon as Jian Qiuyi spoke, You Song’s expression changed.
She looked at the young woman in front of her. There was no denying that Jian Qiuyi was exactly her type. Whether it was her figure or her features, she was easily among the most attractive people You Song had ever seen.
If Jian Qiuyi really were just a university student from a sports college, You Song might have been willing to maintain the kind of relationship they had stumbled into. But she wasn’t.
She was not only not a student, she was an alpha. Worse, she was the daughter of You Song’s own boss.
If not for her last heat cycle arriving too suddenly and catching her off guard, You Song would never have acted so recklessly. Now she felt as if she had thrown a stone only to smash her own foot. The whole situation was a disaster.
Jian Qiuyi seemed to realize she had gone too far with her words. When she noticed the change in You Song’s face, she tried to make up for it.
“What I meant was that you’re really different from how you were that night.”
You Song replied with a calm voice, “How well do you think you know me? What gives you the right to say that I’m different?”
She looked directly at Jian Qiuyi, her expression unreadable.
“If you understood boundaries, you would have realized that I stopped contacting you to make it clear that we were finished. So why are you here now, standing in my way?”
Jian Qiuyi was stunned. She had assumed that You Song simply did not want to discuss personal matters during work hours. That was why she had spent the whole day working seriously, almost to the point of boredom, just waiting to see You Song after hours and rekindle their connection.
She had waited more than an hour in the parking lot. But this was what she got.
Jian Qiuyi had grown up pampered and adored. Everyone around her always treated her with patience and flattery. She rarely met someone she was truly interested in. But now, she had met someone who was cold as ice and sharp-tongued.
If that were not enough, You Song’s words shattered every fantasy she had built around their night together.
“Then how about this,” Jian Qiuyi said after thinking for a moment. “Let me treat you to dinner. Maybe we can get to know each other better?”
You Song looked at her and responded with a chill in her voice, “If you have that much free time, I can give you more work.”
Jian Qiuyi almost thought she had heard wrong.
But You Song clearly had no intention of staying connected. She casually listed off a few major projects, then said flatly, “I want all of these sorted and placed on my desk by tomorrow morning. Is that clear?”
Jian Qiuyi quickly ran the numbers in her head. The workload was outrageous. She stared at You Song as if she were looking at a villain.
“Are you serious right now? Today is my first day!”
“You seem to enjoy work,” You Song replied with a calm smile. She reached out and patted Jian Qiuyi on the shoulder, then leaned in slightly and said in a gentle but threatening tone, “I look forward to seeing your completed files tomorrow morning.”
Without giving her a chance to reply, You Song walked past the motorcycle, opened her car door, and drove away without another word.
Jian Qiuyi stood there, stunned, holding her helmet. She stared at the spot where You Song’s car disappeared and let out a snort before placing her hands on her hips.
“It’s just overtime,” she muttered. “No big deal.”
At the same time, You Song returned to her quiet and empty home. As soon as she opened the door, the cold air greeted her. The place was dark, with only the hallway lights outside casting faint shadows that stretched long across the floor.
She felt exhausted. Removing her shoes slowly, she undressed as she made her way to the bathroom. Soon, she was standing under the hot water, letting it wash away the tension of the day.
This apartment was technically her home, but it barely felt like one. It was too clean, too sterile. There were no personal touches.
The kitchen was used only to boil water. The fridge was filled with instant meals.
There were no pets. No plants. Not even a single potted one. The entire place was spotless, like a model home.
The only signs of life were in the bathroom and bedroom.
Leaning against the edge of the bathtub, You Song stared at the flowing water, a deep sense of fatigue washing over her.
The next morning, You Song arrived at her office early once again.
Not because she liked to. If she left her house a few minutes later, she would be stuck in traffic. Leaving early meant she got to the office thirty minutes ahead of time.
Only a few employees were around this early. The cleaning lady was sweeping nearby.
Being early did have its benefits. For example, she could park wherever she wanted. And she was also the first person to see the chaos inside her office.
Papers were scattered everywhere, like someone had tossed them into the air in frustration. And in the middle of the mess, Jian Qiuyi lay asleep on the sofa.
For a second, You Song thought she had walked into the wrong office.
She stepped inside, picked up one of the documents, then walked toward the couch.
The sofa was not long enough, so Jian Qiuyi had placed her legs on a small stool. Her sleeping posture was awkward, but oddly graceful, almost like a photograph from an art exhibit.
You Song folded her arms and quietly watched her sleep.
This girl really was beautiful.
It was a shame she had such a difficult personality.
Still, she was young. She hadn’t experienced the realities of the world yet.
You Song wasn’t sure whether Jian Xiangling had placed her daughter under her management out of trust or out of dislike.
Even putting work aside, You Song was beginning to worry about their personal dynamic.
Jian Qiuyi probably didn’t know she was an Omega. That night, she had taken plenty of suppressants. There should not have been any obvious signs…
Just as that thought crossed her mind, Jian Qiuyi suddenly opened her eyes.
Her dark pupils were clear and alert. There wasn’t even a trace of sleepiness.
You Song was startled, then immediately realized what was going on.
“You were pretending to sleep?”
“I woke up the moment you opened the door,” Jian Qiuyi replied. She stretched, sat up, and looked You Song up and down.
“Director You, you look stunning today in that purple outfit.”
You Song said nothing.
Then Jian Qiuyi asked curiously, “Director You, are you an alpha or a beta?”
You Song stared at her and said, “What does that have to do with you?”
“Of course it does,” Jian Qiuyi replied while looking her straight in the eye. “I should at least know the gender of the person I slept with that night, right?”
“Whether I’m an alpha or a beta has nothing to do with you.” You Song glanced at the mess on the floor and added, “Before work starts, clean this place up. When I asked you to work overtime last night, I didn’t mean for you to wreck the office.”
Hearing that, Jian Qiuyi looked disheartened. “I already worked all night. And now you want me to clean too? After all that hard work, don’t I at least deserve a little reward?”
“I’ll reward you with an overtime slip,” You Song replied, sitting down at her desk. “Go to HR and fill it out.”
Jian Qiuyi gave her a fierce glare. “Fine.”
After watching her storm off angrily, You Song covered her face, feeling a headache coming on.
It was only the second day, and there was still a long way to go. How was she going to handle this?
Jian Qiuyi borrowed a broom from the cleaning staff and swept the entire office clean. She also gathered all the scattered documents and neatly stacked them to one side. Once she was done, she trotted back to the office to show off her efforts.
“Director You, I finished everything,” Jian Qiuyi said, placing her hands on the desk like a proud puppy. “Don’t you think I’m amazing?”
“Cleaning the floor doesn’t count as amazing,” You Song said, taking a step back and picking up a file. “Take this contract and send it by courier. Then go downstairs and buy me a latte.”
Jian Qiuyi took the document reluctantly. “I sent everything you asked for in an email last night. Did you read it?”
Of course You Song hadn’t. She had just said it to get rid of her and never expected this fool to actually finish it.
“I’ll look at it later. I have a meeting now,” she said with a straight face. “The meeting starts in ten minutes in the main conference room. You still have time to run across the street to that coffee shop and get the coffee.”
“What about the courier?”
“You can send the package and get coffee. Time management is the first thing you need to learn at work.”
Jian Qiuyi frowned. Looking at You Song’s calm and smug expression, she wanted nothing more than to slam her into the wall and teach her a lesson.
Damn it. What had gotten into her that night to make her think this woman was gentle and sexy?
Now that she had her clothes back on, she was acting like a complete tyrant.
Storming out of the office with a dark face, Jian Qiuyi ran into Xu Ye, who had just arrived at her desk. Seeing the unhappy expression on her face, Xu Ye kindly asked, “What’s wrong? You look awful. Didn’t sleep well?”
“It’s not that I didn’t sleep well,” Jian Qiuyi grumbled. “It’s that I didn’t sleep at all.”
God knew how late she had stayed up last night. After finishing everything and sending the email, it was nearly three in the morning. There was no way she could go home. She ended up crashing on You Song’s office couch, sleeping there until eight. Even then, she still felt half dead. Her dreams were filled with images of her organizing files.
She asked the front desk to handle the courier delivery, then jogged to the coffee shop. It turned out to be farther than she remembered, so she had to sprint there and back. By the time she returned and got into the elevator, she was completely out of breath and just in time for the meeting.
When Xu Ye saw her, she greeted her quickly and said, “Perfect timing. Come with me to the meeting room. Director You already went ahead.”
Then she noticed the cup of coffee in Jian Qiuyi’s hand and said with surprise, “That’s Director You’s favorite coffee. That place doesn’t do delivery, so I used to go buy it for her.”
Xu Ye gently rubbed her round belly and added with a smile, “But ever since I got pregnant, Director You hasn’t asked me to go out for coffee again.”
Hearing this, Jian Qiuyi glanced at her baby bump in disbelief and muttered, “That woman actually has a kind side?”
