The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 6
In the conference room, the project manager was reporting progress to the leadership team.
You Song sat in the front row, listening attentively. Sitting behind her on either side were Xu Ye and Jian Qiuyi, both responsible for taking meeting notes, which would later be compiled into a document and distributed to the relevant departments.
Bored, Jian Qiuyi stared at You Song from behind. Her eyes followed the smooth length of You Song’s hair, down to her slender waist, and even lingered on her legs. She looked rather thoughtful as she stared.
Being watched from head to toe like that was very uncomfortable. You Song frowned. She wanted to tell the person behind her to be more respectful with her gaze, but the meeting was still ongoing, and it wasn’t the right time.
Once the project manager finished, everyone began discussing the updates. Finally, You Song found a chance to turn around and glare at Jian Qiuyi.
Jian Qiuyi hadn’t even looked away in time. When she saw the glare, she didn’t look embarrassed at all. Flashing a bright smile and showing her pearly teeth, she said, “Director You, is something wrong?”
Even Xu Ye glanced up curiously at the two of them.
“My coffee is too cold. Go make me a cup of hot tea,” You Song said casually.
Hot tea after iced coffee? Not afraid of getting a stomachache?
That’s what Jian Qiuyi thought to herself, but she still wore a pleasant smile as she asked, “Director You, would you like black tea or green tea?”
Xu Ye quickly chimed in, “Director You prefers oolong tea. I can make it for you…”
“You don’t need to go.” You Song interrupted, locking eyes with Jian Qiuyi to signal her to be more considerate. A pregnant woman shouldn’t be the one fetching tea.
“Alright then.” Jian Qiuyi sighed and closed her notebook. “I’ll go make Director You a cup of oolong tea.”
As soon as Jian Qiuyi left, You Song felt much more at ease. Being stared at that way from behind had made her extremely uncomfortable.
“Director You…” Xu Ye lowered her voice and said quietly, “Qiuyi is the chairman’s daughter, after all. Isn’t this a bit harsh?”
“It’s just a cup of tea. What did I even do to her?” You Song replied without looking up, her eyes still on the documents in front of her. “If she’s not capable of doing anything, what’s the point of having her around?”
Xu Ye knew You Song had always been strict, so she didn’t say anything more.
Jian Qiuyi returned quickly with a freshly brewed cup of oolong tea and placed it beside You Song’s hand in a disposable cup.
You Song didn’t even glance at her and simply motioned for her to go back to her seat. This annoyed Jian Qiuyi quite a bit.
By the time the meeting ended, You Song still hadn’t taken a single sip of the tea.
At her desk outside You Song’s office, Jian Qiuyi sat with her cheek resting on her hand, lips pouting slightly. She balanced a black pen between her upper lip and nose, zoning out as she played absentmindedly.
Doing the work of one person with two people naturally left her plenty of free time.
Besides, Xu Ye was just an ordinary assistant and didn’t dare give Jian Qiuyi too many tasks. Most secretarial duties fell to Xu Ye unless she was overwhelmed or Jian Qiuyi offered to help.
At the moment, there wasn’t much going on. Xu Ye was typing away at her computer, organizing the meeting notes, while Jian Qiuyi simply sat there bored, watching You Song pace around in her office on the phone through the blinds.
“Hey, Xu Ye,” Jian Qiuyi said, still looking through the window. “Is Director You an alpha or a beta?”
Xu Ye blinked and followed her gaze toward the office. “Why are you asking that?”
“Just curious,” Jian Qiuyi replied while twirling her pen. “She doesn’t really seem like either. She’s cold and sharp, and honestly, kind of hard to deal with.”
“Actually, she’s quite nice,” Xu Ye said with a smile. “She’s always been fair to all of us. Ever since I got pregnant, she’s been trying to reduce my workload. She just sounds cold, but she’s not a bad person.”
“Is that so? I really don’t see it…”
Maybe Jian Qiuyi’s stare was a bit too intense, because You Song suddenly turned around and locked eyes with them. Her brows instantly furrowed.
Xu Ye quickly looked down at her screen, startled. But Jian Qiuyi just gave You Song a cheerful wave and smiled without a care.
You Song’s face darkened. She walked to the window, stared coldly back, and then decisively closed the blinds, blocking their view.
“What’s wrong?” the voice on the phone asked. “I was just asking if you wanted to meet up. The guy I mentioned is really decent. He’s a middle school PE teacher, nearly six foot three. I think he’d be a good match for you.”
After closing the blinds, You Song finally replied, “I don’t want to meet him. And please stop trying to set me up. I’ve been really busy lately.”
“You’re always busy, but I don’t see you accomplishing much,” the woman on the line grumbled. “I’m doing this for your own good. You’re nearly thirty. You can’t stay single forever. Your mother might not care, but as your aunt, I do. Trust me, this guy is nice. Just meet him once.”
Her aunt’s nagging gave her a headache. Ever since her family fell apart, only this aunt had kept in touch.
But being older, her aunt always worried about You Song living alone in another city and constantly wanted her to find someone to take care of her.
You Song didn’t agree. Whether it was blind dates or having a boyfriend, it would just add unnecessary complications and disrupt the order she had planned for her life.
“I got it.” To stop the endless chatter, she gave in a little. “Have him add me on WeChat. We’ll talk there. That’s reasonable, right?”
“Alright then,” her aunt said happily. “I’ll hang up now. Take care at work.”
After hanging up, You Song sighed and turned back to look at the closed blinds. She walked over, lifted a slat with her finger, and peeked outside.
Jian Qiuyi was chatting with Xu Ye, one relaxed and one busy. The sight made You Song frown again.
You Song knew she had to find a way to help Jian Qiuyi achieve results quickly. Otherwise, she would be stuck supervising her indefinitely. This place wasn’t a daycare, and Jian Qiuyi was no small child either.
Sensing something, Jian Qiuyi looked up toward the office and noticed the blinds swaying slightly, as if someone had just been standing there.
She had spent the entire afternoon spacing out at her desk. No one assigned her any real tasks. All she did was print a few documents, buy some snacks downstairs, and then sit idly for the rest of the day.
Just before the end of the workday, Jian Xiangling showed up unexpectedly.
As soon as she saw her daughter, she walked straight over. Xu Ye quickly stood up to greet her and instinctively tried to pull Jian Qiuyi up with her. But remembering this was her boss’s daughter, she awkwardly stood to the side instead.
Jian Xiangling smiled at the sight of Xu Ye’s baby bump. “No need to stand, Xu Ye. Sit down. I’m just here to speak with Director You. Is she in her office?”
“She is,” Xu Ye answered cautiously.
“Good,” Jian Xiangling said, then turned to her daughter. “What kind of posture is that? You look like a lazy snake. Stand up and come with me to see Director You.”
The moment Jian Qiuyi heard she could go into the office, she stood up eagerly and followed her mother in.
Jian Xiangling didn’t bother knocking. When You Song looked up and saw who it was, she was momentarily surprised.
“President Jian?” You Song set down her work and walked over. “What brings you here?”
“I was just passing by and thought I’d stop in for a visit,” Jian Xiangling said, settling onto the sofa. She gestured for You Song to sit too, then turned to her daughter. “Make us both a cup of coffee.”
Jian Qiuyi glanced at her mother reluctantly but still went to make the coffee.
Facing her boss, You Song couldn’t help feeling uneasy. Despite Jian Xiangling’s seemingly gentle demeanor, she exuded a quiet authority. You Song had always been extremely cautious around her, terrified of saying the wrong thing.
Someone like her wouldn’t show up without a reason.
“You Song, how’s my daughter doing under your supervision?” Jian Xiangling asked gently. “She’s got a temper and a stubborn streak. If she ever causes trouble or argues with you, don’t hesitate to discipline her. Don’t be soft-hearted.”
“I’m right here, you know,” Jian Qiuyi called out from the side. “What is this, boarding school?”
“Don’t talk back,” Jian Xiangling snapped. “What, you disagree?”
Jian Qiuyi grumbled as she returned with two cups of coffee, setting them down before plopping into the opposite seat and crossing her legs.
“Put your legs down,” Jian Xiangling scolded. “Is this how you act in front of your boss?”
Sensing a fight brewing, You Song quickly stepped in. “President Jian, please don’t get upset. Let’s talk calmly.”
Jian Xiangling glared at her daughter one last time before turning back to You Song with a bright smile. She took her hand and patted it lightly. “You Song, I’m trusting you with my daughter. Please guide her well.”
“I will,” You Song said, trying to smile. “She’s actually done quite well these past two days.”
“Oh?” Jian Xiangling raised an eyebrow and turned back to her daughter. “You didn’t come home last night, did you? Where did you go?”
Jian Qiuyi blinked in surprise. “How did you know I didn’t go home?”
“I know plenty,” Jian Xiangling scolded. “Where were you last night? Who were you with?”
“I was working overtime,” Jian Qiuyi said.
“Overtime on your first day? You think I’m that easy to fool?”
“I really was working late! Ask Director You if you don’t believe me.”
Hearing that, Jian Xiangling turned back to You Song. “Is that true?”
Now both mother and daughter were staring at her in unison, and You Song felt a headache forming.
