The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 7
Although Director You had Jian Qiuyi work overtime, it was because the young woman didn’t go home after work. Instead, she flirted with her in the underground parking lot. If Jian Xiangling found out, even if she said nothing, she would still resent her in her heart.
After all, it was obvious to anyone how much Jian Xiangling treasured her daughter. If she found out that her daughter had pulled an all-nighter on her very first day at work…
Director You looked at Jian Xiangling, who was staring straight at her. She opened her mouth, but before she could speak, Jian Qiuyi spoke up first.
“I was the one who wanted to work overtime. Mom, can you stop blaming other people all the time?”
“You wanted to work overtime?” Jian Xiangling turned to look at her daughter, her expression full of disbelief.
“I made a mistake and delayed Director You’s progress. She didn’t even blame me. I chose to stay and finish the work.” Jian Qiuyi glanced at Director You, and when their eyes met, she gave a small, confident smile. “I’ll take responsibility for my own mistakes. Isn’t that right, Director You?”
Director You saw that the question was being thrown to her, and she had no choice but to reply, “Yes.”
As soon as Jian Xiangling heard that her daughter had volunteered for the overtime, her expression relaxed. She still looked stern, but her eyes clearly showed warmth and affection when she looked at Jian Qiuyi.
“If it’s work, then I have nothing more to say,” Jian Xiangling said with a satisfied look. “Just be more careful in the future and don’t cause trouble for Director You. Do you understand?”
“I understand.” After answering, Jian Qiuyi leaned back on the couch and asked curiously, “Mom, did you come all this way just to talk about that?”
“That? That’s hardly something worth mentioning.” Jian Xiangling gave her a side glance, then turned to Director You and said, “There’s a cocktail reception this Friday evening. It will be attended by people from the business association. Director You, take Qiuyi with you and let her observe.”
A cocktail reception?
Director You thought about it. She had been to plenty of these events before. They were mostly casual conversations, people networking and sharing industry updates. Nothing too complicated. Jian Xiangling coming personally to bring it up probably meant two things. First, she wanted to check in on her daughter. Second, she wanted Director You to help her gain some experience.
“Alright. I’ll take care of it,” Director You nodded and said to Jian Xiangling, “You can rest assured. I’ll look after Qiuyi.”
Jian Xiangling smiled warmly, taking Director You’s hand in hers. “I trust you with her.”
After that, Jian Xiangling stayed and chatted with Director You for a while. Jian Qiuyi sat across from them, her eyes locked on Director You the entire time, making her increasingly uncomfortable under the gaze.
Once Jian Xiangling finally left, Director You let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“Sis.”
At that moment, Jian Qiuyi leaned in from behind and asked playfully, “A cocktail party means we need to wear formal gowns, right? Do you have one? If not, we can go shopping together and get one.”
As she spoke, her breath brushed against Director You’s ear, sending chills down her spine. Director You immediately stepped away and walked to the side.
“You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll take care of it myself. You just need to show up on time.”
Watching her walk away, Jian Qiuyi looked annoyed. She crossed her arms and stared at her.
“I even lied to my mom to help you, and you don’t even thank me? She may scold me to my face, but if she knew you made me work overtime, deep down she would definitely side with me.”
Director You turned around and gave her a cold smile. “If you’re so aware of that, then I assume you lie to your mom quite often. And even if she knew I made you stay late, she’d probably ask why, wouldn’t she?”
Jian Qiuyi stepped closer, amused, and said, “What would you tell her? That we slept together? Or that I was punished for flirting with you?”
Director You stared at her without saying a word.
Jian Qiuyi looked into her eyes and felt her heart skip a beat. She gently held Director You’s hand and gave it a soft squeeze, her voice sweet and low.
“Sis, you’re so kind to Xu Ye, but why are you always so cold to me? I haven’t really done anything wrong, have I?”
From the very beginning, Director You’s attitude toward her had been distant and harsh, and that hurt Jian Qiuyi more than she wanted to admit.
She had imagined their reunion would be harmonious. She had even pictured being affectionate with her in the office. But when they finally met again, Director You’s words were sharp and full of sarcasm, making her feel completely unwelcome.
Director You paused for a moment. Maybe Jian Qiuyi had a point. Maybe she had been too hard on her.
With a soft sigh, she looked at her and said, “If you didn’t always say such inappropriate things, maybe I’d treat you better.”
“I act properly in front of everyone else,” Jian Qiuyi said, confused.
She only behaved that way in private, and only because they were alone. She wanted to be closer to her, but who knew Director You would be so guarded and unwilling to respond?
Director You was still uncomfortable with her holding her hand. After a moment, she pulled it free and said, “You should leave.”
Jian Qiuyi blinked. “Sis?”
“I told you, at work, call me Director You.” She frowned. “Since you keep clinging to me, I’ll say this one more time. That night was a mistake. I only wanted something short and simple. You’re the one who insisted on taking it further. We’re adults. Can you stop being so childish?”
Jian Qiuyi’s smile froze. She stared at Director You in disbelief.
“You’re calling me childish?”
Director You looked back at her, just as stunned. “Is that really the part you’re focusing on?”
Jian Qiuyi stepped forward and stood directly in front of her. “Whether it was just a fling or something more, wasn’t it still mutual consent?”
Director You frowned slightly.
“And you’re saying you weren’t satisfied that night? Then why did you leave me a few hundred yuan?”
Director You looked up at her. “That was…”
“Sis, I didn’t spend a single cent of that money,” Jian Qiuyi interrupted, grinning. “I had it framed. If you want, I can bring it to you someday. You can keep it as a souvenir.”
Director You’s expression darkened. Her voice grew colder.
“Get out.”
“Alright.” Jian Qiuyi let go of her, stepped back, and smiled. “I’m leaving. See you tomorrow.”
Watching her walk out of the office, Director You felt her headache grow worse.
In the days that followed, Jian Qiuyi didn’t bother Director You again. Instead, she stayed close to Xu Ye, learning new things every day. Occasionally, she followed Director You to business meetings. Her behavior was completely different from before.
Sometimes, Director You would catch herself staring at her, wondering if she had gone too far that day and unintentionally hurt her.
But she was genuinely afraid of Jian Qiuyi’s clingy nature. At least now, things felt a bit calmer.
On Friday, Director You gave Jian Qiuyi the afternoon off so she could prepare. She told her to go straight to the event at 7 p.m.
Jian Qiuyi didn’t complain. In fact, she was thrilled to have some time off and happily drove home.
Although she called it “home,” the place was actually a duplex apartment that Jian Xiangling had purchased for her near the office. It was over 200 square meters across two floors. Living alone, the space felt quite empty. Fortunately, Jian Qiuyi had grown up in large houses, so she was used to it. If it felt too bare, she could always just add more furniture.
After getting home, Jian Qiuyi went into the walk-in closet and picked out a few gowns.
All the gowns were freshly tailored. Standing over 170 centimeters tall, Jian Qiuyi looked stunning in formal wear. Her height and posture made her the perfect walking mannequin. Most of her gowns were simple and elegant in style, often in black, white, or subtle patterned fabrics. She only wore bright, bold colors like red or purple on rare occasions.
Tonight’s cocktail party was just a standard business gathering. Jian Qiuyi chose a sleek black mermaid dress with thin straps and added a luxurious black shawl. The overall look gave her a graceful and refined presence.
The only inconvenience was driving in that outfit. Jian Qiuyi felt that, dressed in something this expensive, she really shouldn’t have to drive herself. It didn’t feel very princess-like.
Still, she arrived just in time for the event.
The banquet hall was already buzzing. The men were dressed sharply in suits, while the women, with their elegant figures, showed off their long legs and graceful curves beneath layers of sheer fabrics. The entire scene was a blur of beauty and glamour.
This wasn’t Jian Qiuyi’s first time attending an event like this. She easily picked up a glass of champagne and began scanning the crowd for Director You.
By now, she should have arrived.
Jian Qiuyi looked around but didn’t see her. When she reached a quiet corner, she finally spotted a woman in a violet gown.
The woman had long hair cascading down her back. Her dress had a folded waist design that gathered into a purple flower at the waist, and the hem revealed a section of her pale, slender calves. The dress fit her body perfectly, outlining her curves. Jian Qiuyi’s eyes naturally followed the line of her waist, and something about that silhouette felt extremely familiar.
Just as she was wondering, the woman seemed to hear someone calling her name and slowly turned around.
The moment Jian Qiuyi saw her face, her eyes lit up. She stared with interest and a playful smile spread across her lips.
Director You had been standing quietly in the corner, trying to enjoy a rare moment of peace. When she heard someone call out, she turned her head slightly.
She saw a woman approaching in a silver-gray suit, holding two glasses of champagne. The woman handed one to her with a smile.
“Long time no see, Director You,” the woman said warmly, her eyes sweeping over Director You’s elegant look with clear admiration. She gave a light, teasing laugh. “You look beautiful tonight.”
“Thank you, Boss Zhang,” Director You replied politely, accepting the glass without hesitation.
Zhang Zi leaned closer, smiling as she said, “This event is terribly boring. Why don’t we step out later for some fresh air? I know a great place with a stunning view. The night scenery is unforgettable.”
Director You noticed how close she was getting and subtly stepped away.
“I didn’t come alone tonight,” she said calmly. “I’m afraid I can’t join you, Boss Zhang.”
“Not alone?” Zhang Zi leaned on the nearby railing, looking curious. “Then who did Director You come with? Don’t tell me it’s a little lover?”
