Episode 15: The Road to the “Constant Activity” Skill
The morning sky over the royal capital, Luxteria. It was perfectly clear—no clouds in sight.
Underneath that sky, a quiet heat stirred within my chest.
(Finally.)
It had only been a few days since I was condemned, lost my noble status, and registered as an adventurer.
And yet, in just this short span of time, I had become obsessed with combat.
No—perhaps it would be more accurate to say I awoke to it.
Both my “Poison Resistance” and “Physical Resistance” had steadily reached Lv. 6.
I had gathered all the necessary potions.
All of this was preparation for this one day—the moment I would step into the Miasma Plain.
(I will acquire the “Constant Activity” skill.)
I finished preparing and left the inn.
There was breakfast as always. But today, I savored it with a deeper feeling.
Today would determine everything about every battle I would ever face in my life.
I passed through the guild street.
The capital in the early morning was still quiet, with few people around.
Eventually, the city gates came into view.
A massive stone gate. It led to the road beyond—and beyond that, the Miasma Plain lay waiting.
The two gatekeepers noticed me.
With a slight hint of suspicion, one of them called out.
“…You’re a new face.”
Of course. This was my first time passing through here.
“Where to?”
“To the Miasma Plain,”
I replied casually.
The moment I said it, the atmosphere shifted.
The guards’ brows twitched slightly.
“—The Miasma Plain, you say?”
“Why would anyone go there…? I hear the ‘fog’ has gotten thicker again lately.”
I simply looked back at them calmly.
They exchanged glances, sighed, and shrugged.
“…We won’t stop you. Just be careful.”
I nodded politely and passed through the gate.
(A place no one else dares to go. But that’s exactly what makes it valuable to me.)
The paved road gave way to dirt.
The earth road curved gently across the hills.
The grass glistened with dew in the morning sun. It was swaying with the wind.
Far off on the horizon, a faint mist was beginning to rise.
(…That’s the Miasma Plain.)
With each step, damp air clung to my skin.
Dark droplets formed on the grass. And my footsteps grew soft and wet.
And then—
(…They’re here.)
A faint rustle in the grass.
A shadow darted quickly—small monsters: Smog Rats.
They were low-tier rat-like monsters that had adapted to the miasma of the Miasma Plain.
But they were far quicker than the ones in the drainage tunnels.
Three, four… five.
They gathered into a pack and lunged at me. They were baring their fangs.
(Perfect.)
I drew my sword from its sheath.
The weight already felt familiar in my hand.
The sensation of battle sharpened my focus.
I stepped forward and slashed horizontally—
One leaping rat was torn apart, scattering into the mist.
I turned my body fluidly and cut down a second.
(Light.)
Jump—counter—dodge—slash.
Everything flowed together smoothly.
The Smog Rats were taken down one after another.
There was no need to “intentionally” take damage anymore.
That part of my training was over.
My goal lay further ahead—getting careless and losing HP now would be meaningless.
(…Each fight sharpens me further.)
Each swing of my blade ignited a fire in my core.
It felt almost like floating.
I slashed down the last one diagonally. I then flicked the bl00d from my sword.
Its body burst and faded into the fog.
I caught my breath and moved on.
The miasma around me grew thicker.
The ground darkened beneath my feet.
The soles of my shoes stuck slightly to the slimy surface.
(So this is the deeper part.)
The miasma clung heavily in my lungs. It was making even breathing harder.
This was the Miasma Plain—
A zone ruled by “poison”.
Just being here constantly inflicted the “Poisoned” status.
Even if cured with potions, it would instantly return. And anyone without proper resistance would lose HP just by walking.
(But… not bad.)
Even this suffocating weight in my lungs transformed into a rush of anticipation.
In the game, once “Poison Resistance” reached Lv. 6, field damage from the Miasma Plain would become null.
For some reason, poison-nullifying gear didn’t work here—
Only the skill itself prevented the damage.
It was a notorious system quirk I remembered well.
And now, testing it myself—I confirmed it.
While I still felt the presence of poison, I was taking no damage step by step.
That meant I could roam this field freely. I was immune to the poison effect.
Just that knowledge made my body tremble with excitement—even in such a toxic place.
To be able to fight without limits—
What more could I ask for?
(…Here they come again.)
More rustling in the grass—
This time, six Smog Rats.
(Still not enough. I want more.)
I couldn’t be satisfied with just a “battle”—this was merely warm-up.
The “real thing” lay ahead.
One of them lunged.
I struck it mid-air, sword flashing—it burst apart.
I twisted my body and dodged the rest. I was parrying with fluid strikes.
The remaining enemies were all cut down swiftly.
(—Going smoothly.)
My hand hovered over a potion flask. But I didn’t need to drink yet.
Just a little further ahead—that thing should be waiting.
The master of this field—the “Maw of Miasma.”
My destined opponent.
A peak-level threat, worthy of granting the “Constant Activity” skill.
I slowly sheathed my sword and began walking forward again.
The white miasma thickened. And through it, a distorted shape started to emerge.
My bl00d surged with heat.
Excitement and instinct merged. It was making my heart pound.
If I won this fight—if I gambled and came out on top—
The “Constant Activity” skill would finally be mine.
(Let’s go.)
With one quiet step, I entered deeper into the fog.
