Episode 30: Testing Physical Resistance
I raised my sword—or started to. Then I suddenly stopped.
This feeling… this situation—I can use it.
(The “fangs” of the Twin Fang Wolves—those are definitely classified as piercing attacks.)
I had recently acquired “Physical Resistance: Lv.6”.
I’ve already taken slashes and blunt attacks directly with this body.
But what about piercing attacks?
I’ve fought these creatures before. But that time, it was just to test my “Swordsmanship” skill.
(I haven’t verified it yet.)
How far does “Physical Resistance” in this world actually go?
If I follow my game knowledge, it should include any physical-type attacks—in other words, piercing should count too.
But this isn’t just a copied world from a game. The system rules here are vague and not always consistent.
(Then it’s worth testing.)
Compared to the Maw of Miasma I fought before, these beasts are far less threatening… I’ve already prepped my potion pouch for quick access just in case.
Taking a deep breath, I deliberately lowered my guard.
The Twin Fang Wolf’s eyes gleamed—it had locked on. It’s coming.
In the next moment, with a gust that sliced the air, the beast kicked off the ground.
In a flash, its fangs seemed to pierce straight into my arm.
“…!”
The fangs definitely bit in.
But there was no tearing sensation.
Instead, a sharp jolt ran through my arm. It shook the bone beneath.
《HP: 99%》
(It didn’t go through.)
Sure, there’s some pain. But it didn’t reach under the skin. There’s not even a wound.
Proof enough—my HP only dropped slightly. Based on the feeling, probably no more than a single-digit percentage.
(So this is the power of “Physical Resistance Lv.6”… I’m satisfied.)
Piercing attacks are covered under physical resistance.
Knowing that filled me with a sense of reassurance.
Still gripping the wolf that had bitten me, I lifted it and hurled it against a rocky cliff. It was like I was swatting away rubble.
I could sense Lucrane behind me gasping in shock. But there was nothing for him to worry about.
The second and third wolves had already flanked me. They were moving in to attack from behind.
“Here we go—”
I drew my sword and stepped forward.
I fight—because it’s fun.
(In the very act of battle itself, I feel truly alive.)
The Twin Fang Wolves pounced in sync.
But I could read them now. I already saw their moves—one step, two steps ahead.
The second wolf leaped from the side—
But I noticed its weight shift subtly to the right.
(Charging power in the hind legs… going to spin in mid-air and land behind me.)
Too obvious.
I stepped forward. I intercepted the path and crushed its trajectory.
(Too slow.)
My sword flashed.
The blade skimmed between its fur. It sliced it as it passed.
The wounded wolf crumpled to the ground.
The third wolf was aiming for my back.
But even that—
I spun. And using the momentum of my step, I thrust backward.
It tried to dodge. But it was too late.
I shifted the blade’s arc and swept it horizontally across the beast’s side.
(Not done yet.)
Every slash, every thrust, every step—was something I could read and turn into strategy.
Utter calm. Yet within me burned a deep exhilaration.
The wolves’ breathing grew ragged.
They couldn’t keep up with my movement.
That’s the effect of my reading overwhelming them.
(This feeling… it’s addicting.)
I don’t need anyone to see me.
I don’t want to brag about winning.
Just being in this space, in this moment—
Fills me with heat from deep within.
Yes—this is battle.
(Come on. Show me more. Make me burn even hotter.)
The Twin Fang Wolf staggered back to its feet. It was glaring at me with sharp eyes despite its unsteady legs.
In response, I slowly raised my sword to an upper stance.
Before I knew it, I was enjoying this tension.
But I wouldn’t relax.
I’d enjoy this to the end—without letting my guard down.
The second wolf let out a roar and charged again.
But it was a signal.
The remaining wolves moved at the same time. They surrounded me.
(A pincer attack. But—too late.)
My foot slammed into the ground.
With a sharp step, I ducked low and slid into the flank of one wolf.
I broke its balance and cut off the movement of the other.
(Now.)
The sword raced.
Sparks like fireworks scattered between blade and beast.
One down, then another.
Fangs. Claws.
They lunged at me, trying to tear me apart.
But I could read all of it.
One more time.
One more strike.
Another flash of the blade.
And I answered every one of them.
By the time the fight ended, I was only slightly out of breath.
But—my heart was calm.
A quiet and fulfilling sense.
And then—
“…That was impressive.”
A calm voice came from behind me—Lucrane.
I shrugged slightly. I then sheathed my sword as I turned around.
“Sorry for worrying you.”
“…No. ‘Impressive’ doesn’t quite cover it.”
“I’m honored—if that was meant as praise.”
I replied lightly. And he smiled slightly.
But his eyes remained sharp—an observer, measuring me.
(Maybe I overdid it.)
I looked back at the battlefield.
The Twin Fang Wolves were lying still.
The sharp, brief tension still lingered in the air.
“…As expected, it won’t be so easy to handle.”
“True. Things might look calm on the surface. But the monsters’ presence is still around.”
“…We can’t yet assume the underlying threat is fully gone.”
We resumed walking. We carefully watched the rocky ground for any signs of our objective: Magic Ore.
Don’t let your guard down.
I told myself that—but even so, I smiled quietly.
(I’ll keep fighting from now on—because this is fun.)
