The Banished Villainous Noble Son Who Was Used as a Stepping Stone in the Original Work Awakens to Combat and Destroys the Laws of the World - Episode 35: Update of the Request
Episode 35: Update of the Request
In front of the installed magic tool at the temporary base.
Lucrane and I stood side by side.
The crystal emitting a faint magical glow gradually began to form an outline.
“…Can you hear me?”
Within the projected mist of magical power, the upper half of a woman appeared.
Though the outline was hazy, it was clear that she was Guild Master Irina.
“This is Lucrane from the temporary base. Thank you for giving us your time today. We have contacted you to update the request content and report on the investigation.”
Lucrane bowed and began his report in a calm tone.
Irina nodded lightly. She then slightly shifted her gaze to the side.
“…Alphonse is with you as well, huh. I’m glad you’re both safe.”
“Yes, thanks to you.”
I also gave a small bow of my head.
“At the current investigation site, a ‘cold air’ phenomenon was confirmed. And we encountered a monster possessing the ice attribute. Most likely, it is an unconfirmed individual in this region.”
“Ice, you say? In this region? There shouldn’t be any such monster in the records…”
Irina’s voice showed signs of surprise. At her words, Lucrane nodded.
“The exact species is unknown. But we confirmed it from a distance. The records from that time and the comparison with the Magic Ore layer map will be submitted later.”
“—I also have one point to add.”
To supplement, I stepped forward.
“This monster fired ice masses from a long distance. Given the precision, the attack range, and suspicious behavior after our evasion, I sensed a certain ‘intelligence’ from it.”
“…I see.”
Irina folded her arms slightly.
Within the projected image, she seemed to be pondering briefly.
“…Lucrane.”
“Yes.”
“This case will be treated as a ‘high caution case,’ including its connection to the ice attribute. Proceed with care as you continue.”
“Understood.”
So said Irina. She then turned her gaze toward me.
“Your report has solidified our judgment. We’re entrusting the continued investigation to you.”
“I’ll take responsibility and handle the investigation.”
“Good. The investigation at the Magic Ore layer will conclude here. Assuming collaboration with the Academy, the contents of the request will be formally updated. From now on, conduct investigations based at the Academy. Proceed with reports and responses.”
I conveyed my acknowledgment to Irina.
She gave a small smile at the end—and then, the light of the magic tool faded.
Silence returned to the temporary base.
As soon as the communication with Irina ended, Lucrane calmly sorted the records while checking the details of the magic tool.
Meanwhile, I maintained my equipment. I was recalling the feeling of combat.
Monsters usually attack driven by instinct.
However, that ice monster’s behavior had a sense of “intent.”
Attacks used for suppression. Strategic positioning. Timing of attacks.
Each of those things was too precise to be just a coincidence.
(If that monster truly possessed intelligence…)
I felt a slight thrill deep in my chest.
This too was “the unknown”… that’s what I believed.
“…If that thing was *aiming* on purpose.”
I unconsciously let those words slip.
At that moment, a small presence approached from behind.
“You sensed that as well, didn’t you?”
A low voice from behind—Lucrane.
“That monster was clearly observing our actions. The final ice mass it launched also felt like a clear attempt to suppress… perhaps the one doing the observing is actually ‘the other side’.”
“…You’re right.”
Within me, alongside the thirst for battle, another feeling was growing.
The pursuit of the unknown.
Deviation from the rules.
And the anticipation of the next “trial.”
Lucrane smiled faintly.
“I forgot to mention it during the earlier transmission. But we’re scheduled to arrive at the Principality of Lustea’s Academy by tomorrow morning. We’ll be departing from the base a little before sunrise.”
“Understood. I’ll be ready.”
I replied, bringing that conversation to a pause.
With the plan to go to the Academy tomorrow, I decided to check whether there was any information about that matter.
“About the Silent Soak Stone.”
Trying to sound casual, I opened my mouth.
“There’s something that’s been bothering me. If there’s someone who knows the properties of the Silent Soak Stone in detail, I’d like to hear from them.”
Lucrane slightly raised his eyebrows.
“…Depending on the purpose, there are a few such people.”
“I see.”
“Was that why you were collecting Silent Soak Stone?”
“Yes, that’s the reason.”
Of course, my true reason for seeking Silent Soak Stone is something else.
But for now, the current request takes top priority.
I thought I should handle anything that might look like an unrelated goal carefully.
Lucrane stayed silent for a moment. He then eventually spoke quietly.
“At the Academy, I’ve heard there is one person who researches mainly Silent Soak Stone.”
“Is that someone trustworthy?”
“Skilled, but a bit eccentric. Whether they’re cooperative or not depends on the other party.”
A faint smile came to my face.
What that person might see in me—
I won’t know until I meet them.
◆
Dawn broke, the sky tinted faintly red. And the cold morning wind gently brushed over the earth like a veil.
I packed my belongings and lightly adjusted my gear.
Lucrane had already finished his preparations. He looked as calm as always.
“It’ll be a few hours by carriage to the Academy.”
“Understood, thank you.”
Replying that, I lifted my backpack.
I stood at the entrance of the temporary base. And one last time, I took a breath of the outside air.
It was a short stay. But this place had certainly become a kind of “turning point.”
Where we head next is a place where theory and knowledge swirl—the Academy.
And now, the real exploration of the unknown begins.
We left the base behind.
In the glow of the morning sun—quietly—
And to see with my own hands the “trial” that awaited me beyond.
