The Banished Villainous Noble Son Who Was Used as a Stepping Stone in the Original Work Awakens to Combat and Destroys the Laws of the World - Episode 56: Ice Magic Power
Episode 56: Ice Magic Power
Since I successfully obtained the “Magic Power Vision” skill, I have no more business here.
The sun was beginning to set. So I started walking back to the usual inn. And as always, I let my thoughts wander while walking.
(It seems this skill called “Magic Power Vision” can be switched ON and OFF.)
When I first obtained it, I tried using it once. As expected, just like when I first gained the skill, the “magic power” around me became visible.
But when I continued using it for several minutes, a headache attacked me. It wasn’t just simple HP consumption—it seemed to be a skill that put a burden directly on the brain. So it can’t be used too frequently.
In the game, if you placed the cursor on an enemy, you could see information about it. If you had this “Magic Power Vision” skill, its attribute would be revealed. It’d show what it excelled in… that’s how it worked.
When information was revealed and visible, that was considered the ON state. If you pressed the cancel button, it went into the OFF state.
In any case, with this, I can now confirm whether that “ice magic power” the ice monster mentioned was real or not. What to do afterward, I’ll think about once I know the result.
――Still, while moving toward the inn, usually I think about things without losing awareness of my surroundings.
But sometimes, I think it’s better to return quickly. That thought came when I once rode a carriage while doing the Academy request.
A carriage is faster than running on your own two feet. After all, running nonstop is pretty exhausting. And when it comes to competing against a horse, it’s doubtful I’d win. If I had a skill to strengthen the body, then it would be a different story, but――
(“Dash,” huh…)
The “Dash” skill. In the game, it was a standard skill. But it was also one with a strong quirk.
The skill simply “increases movement speed.” But… if you wanted to play normally, it was common to stop at Lv.3, at most Lv.4.
Because the higher the level went, the faster the speed became. And once it reached double digits, you’d become unable to control it properly. It made it harder to play instead.
(But now that I have the reliable skill “Constant Activity”, I’d like to know just how far I can run.)
And the condition for obtaining this skill is simple—“Run nonstop for more than 30 minutes.” In the game, you could just keep pressing the button to make your character run against a wall. So it wasn’t rare at all.
But in this reality, “running nonstop for over 30 minutes” would be quite tough unless you already had good stamina.
(…It’s worth trying.)
From here to the inn takes a while even if walking. I can also test if “Constant Activity” works for “stamina” as well.
After doing some light stretching, I started running toward the inn.
Perhaps because of the battles I’ve been through, my body felt oddly light.
Even while keeping a decent pace, I didn’t feel out of breath or signs of fatigue.
Only a few tens of minutes had passed since I began running, but… this must be the effect of “Constant Activity”.
Just as I was thinking that――
《Skill Dash Acquired》
《Skill: Dash Lv.1》
“Whoa!”
The moment I obtained “Dash”, I suddenly felt a pulling sensation. And the scenery around me began flowing slightly faster.
I nearly lost my balance. But I quickly corrected it.
(I see… this one really has a strong quirk…)
Experiencing it with my own body made me see things differently. Apparently, this “Dash” skill only increases force when “running.”
Before obtaining it, it was like using power 10 to get propulsion 10. But after obtaining it, with power 10, I got propulsion 12.
So even with the same force, the output increased. It required better balance control.
A feeling like my legs might spin uselessly. If my footing was weak, I could trip.
(…This is the reason it becomes “uncontrollable” at higher levels. Interesting.)
And so, I kept running. I was adjusting my body which still showed no signs of stamina depletion.
◆
――In the end, I didn’t run out of stamina all the way to the inn. And when I stopped running, I wasn’t suddenly overwhelmed with fatigue either. Which made me realize again how amazing the “Constant Activity” skill was.
Still, overdoing it is forbidden. Until I know my limits, I shouldn’t push recklessly.
The night veil quietly wrapped around the entire inn.
The noise of the day, the chatter of the guild, all far away. What reached my ears was only the occasional creak of wood and my own breathing.
After eating dinner, I sat down on the bed in my room.
The ice monster’s words repeated in my mind over and over.
‘Human—why do I sense ‘ice magic power’ from you?’
“…Alright.”
I muttered quietly, took a deep breath, and closed my eyes.
“Magic Power Vision”.
The skill I obtained earlier. Activation was simple. Now that I had it, I could even see my own magic power.
This time, I wouldn’t look at the surroundings. I would “see” inside myself—the flow of my magic power within my body.
Calmly, I activated the skill.
As “Magic Power Vision: Lv.1” activated, the air in the room changed. Things that seemed like fragments of magic power appeared in my vision as specks of light. While magic-filled tools and spaces faintly wavered.
A wooden chair. A lantern. Potion bottles. Each carried faint magic power. Even the air seemed filled with small fragments of magic power.
But that wasn’t my goal now.
I looked at my hands. I then slowly sank my awareness deeper into my chest—inside my body.
(My… core, center…)
I focused.
I turned thoughts into sensations. I wasn’t relying on sight, but “seeing.”
And there it was.
A pulsing, vortex-like light.
That was the source of my magic power. From there, it spread like a structure woven throughout my body.
But at the edge――there was something clearly different. A “pale blue color” mixed within.
(…So this is it.)
Pale blue. Sparkling faintly, like frost.
It didn’t strongly assert itself. But its presence was unmistakably “there.”
(I never noticed it until now…)
That was natural.
It blended into my own magic flow, existing quietly. It was without asserting itself. But it was undeniably there.
(You are… “ice magic power,” aren’t you.)
As if responding to my thought, the pale blue particles flickered faintly.
(Can I… move this?)
I tried touching it with magic power control. But immediately I felt something wrong.
――No. This was not my magic power. It was colder, deeper, clearer, and seemed to exist independently.
(This isn’t mine――this is magic power that entered from outside.)
The amount of “ice magic power” was extremely small. But by observing closely through “Magic Power Vision”, I could tell it had come from outside.
In other words, it wasn’t generated by me. Some external factor had placed this magic inside me.
(Then why is this magic here?)
What was that external factor? What came to mind was that ice monster. Or perhaps, something related to my “Frost Resistance”.
But I reconsidered—those possibilities seemed unlikely.
(Ice…)
When I heard that word, I suddenly recalled a dish served by the innkeeper a few days ago. It contained ice shards.
But nothing seemed suspicious about it.
(No, wait…)
――After eating that dish, when I tried to return to my room, I remember feeling a faint cold trace lingering behind me.
At the time, I thought it was the presence of the ice monster—but what if that was actually a reaction to the “ice magic power”?
But even so, I wasn’t the only one who ate that ice-filled dish. Other adventurers must have eaten it too.
(…I’m getting even more confused, huh?)
I closed my eyes. I pulled back my scattered thoughts.
…No matter how much I think, there’s no answer yet. For now, I can only keep observing this magic.
(But――without a doubt, inside me there is “ice magic power.”)
For now, just acknowledging that is enough.
