The Beautiful Older Sister I Picked Up Is Good at Flirting - Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Fu Siyi pretended to be furious. She abruptly stood up from her seat and, following Shen Tian’s lead, scolded angrily:
“Xia Yicheng is really… so terrible, so despicable!”
“Yicheng really went too far this time.” Shen Tian saw that Fu Siyi seemed to believe her. Her eyes lit up momentarily, but within seconds she returned to her pitiful, innocent expression.
“Xiao Yi, I’m sorry. I trusted Yicheng too much and ended up becoming her accomplice. I’ve been wanting to confess to you all this time. I’ve had trouble sleeping, I can’t concentrate during the day, and I even lost my job. Maybe this is karma.”
Fu Siyi sneered inwardly.
Shen Tian was the most skilled manipulator and pity-player she’d ever seen. Clearly, she’d been fired from OCT for unfair competition, but she could twist it to sound so pitiful. Just this ability to distort facts was impressive in its own right.
Fu Siyi smiled magnanimously:
“It’s not that serious. As long as you realize your mistake and make amends, it’s fine. Yuqing’s getting married—send her a generous gift as an apology.”
“Mm, I will.”
Shen Tian’s face lit up with joy:
“Xiao Yi, so… do you forgive me?”
Fu Siyi suppressed the anger surging inside her:
“You were just being used. I won’t blame you. In fact, I should thank you for telling me the truth.”
Shen Tian’s eyelashes curled charmingly as she looked up:
“Then… are we still friends?”
“Of course. We’ve always been friends.”
Fu Siyi had never liked Shen Tian’s flirtatious ways, and now she found her even more repulsive. She just wanted to leave:
“It’s getting late. I should head back.”
Shen Tian tactfully stepped aside:
“Okay, let’s talk again next time.”
Fu Siyi’s smile lasted only until Shen Tian turned around. Then the curve of her lips gradually faded, flattening into a cold, emotionless line.
Shen Tian was cunning and venomous. Xia Yicheng was arrogant and domineering. Both could pose a threat to her sister’s safety.
Dealing with Shen Tian alone would be easy, but Xia Yicheng was the sole heir of the Xia family. Not to mention the Xia family’s formidable influence, even Fu Weirong would never allow her to go against them. Fu Weirong needed Xia Chenxiao’s support and wouldn’t let her tear the Xia family apart.
Rather than exhausting herself trying to defeat them, it would be better to let them bite each other while she stayed out of it. That way, her sister would remain unharmed.
Fu Siyi lowered her thick eyelashes, then slowly lifted them, her eyes bright and clear. A smile bloomed on her red lips.
In just a few minutes, she’d come up with a brilliant plan—one that could punish Shen Tian and also get rid of Xia Yicheng. A two-birds-one-stone solution.
Feeling suddenly light-hearted, Fu Siyi was still smiling when she got off the elevator. She returned to the snack shop’s entrance, took a few pictures of the rotating food images, and sent them to Fanzhen.
[Siyi]:
“Sis, I saw a restaurant that serves traditional Yuan cuisine while shopping. What do you want to eat? I’ll bring some back for you tonight.”
She quietly waited for Fanzhen’s reply. Even the long queue didn’t bother her—she didn’t feel impatient at all. She inched forward with the line, smiling at the thought of her sister enjoying food from their hometown.
At the Fu residence’s small garden, Fanzhen was helping Aunt Huan cut fabric when her phone buzzed against her knee from her pocket. She took it out and saw the message from Fu Siyi.
Her eyes landed on the picture of the green bamboo leaf-wrapped zongzi. Even without the smell, just seeing it brought back the scent of fragrant bamboo leaves from her memories.
When she was a child, she often watched her grandma make zongzi. Even though they had servants, her grandma always made the Dragon Boat Festival zongzi herself.
Little Fanzhen would sit beside her grandma, trying to mimic her folding techniques, but her zongzi always ended up misshapen, with rice spilling everywhere.
Her grandma would scold her gently but still take her small hands and patiently guide her. Fanzhen would smell the sweet scent of osmanthus oil on her grandma’s fingers and smile like a sugar-coated zongzi—soft and sweet.
But even by the time her grandma passed, Fanzhen never learned how to wrap them properly.
She stared at the picture for a long time, and her lips curled up unconsciously.
Her little girlfriend clung to her like sticky candy, with a strong possessive streak and a jealous streak even stronger. Sometimes, Fanzhen thought she was just a love-starved child.
But she never expected her to be so thoughtful—knowing that she might miss the taste of home after being away for so long.
To be cared for and loved like this… felt so good.
Her heart bubbled like a strawberry-flavored fizzy tablet dropped in water—producing endless pink bubbles.
So sweet!
She couldn’t believe she was almost thirty and still got this giddy over something Fu Siyi did. She rubbed her face and quickly typed:
[Fanzhen]:
“I want to eat zongzi. Get more sweet ones so I can dip them in sugar.”
She even added a playful crying-face emoji at the end.
The phone buzzed again almost immediately.
[Fu Siyi]:
“Okay.”
Fanzhen put her phone back in her pocket, unable to stop herself from letting out a soft laugh.
Aunt Huan noticed her flushed cheeks and teased her:
“Ah, being in love is the best. Always thinking about each other, unlike my husband—he calls and hangs up in less than two minutes.”
She looked at Fanzhen’s blushing face:
“You know, Miss Fang is really good to you. She always brings stuff for us and is polite when asking us to take care of you. But I heard her mother is pretty strict. The Fang family might not be easy to marry into… and you’re just a penniless, powerless Beta…”
“Aunt Huan,” Fanzhen quickly interrupted, embarrassed, “There’s nothing between Miss Fang and me. We…”
Before she could finish, her phone rang again in her pocket.
She didn’t even have to check to know who it was.
Sure enough—it was Fu Siyi, and this time she was requesting a video call.
Fanzhen sighed helplessly.
This little jealous beast called her for video at least seventeen or eighteen times a day. She really needed to activate “Do Not Disturb” mode.
Otherwise, she’d never get any work done.
She looked around like a security camera. It was lunch break, and the maids were chatting and knitting together. She waved to Aunt Huan, walked to a quiet hallway, and, after confirming no one was around, finally picked up the call.
The lighting in the hallway was dim, but even from a top-down angle without any lighting, her face still looked flawless—no bad angles at all. Especially when she lowered her head, her long lashes cast gentle shadows like wind brushing across a wheat field.
Fu Siyi stared at her like a love-struck fool, never getting tired of looking at her—especially from this close-up angle.
“Yi-xiao-zai, why aren’t you talking?”
Fu Siyi’s eyes sparkled with pink stars:
“Sis, you look so pretty.”
Fanzhen nearly laughed out loud:
“Miss Fu, can you maybe put your love-brain away for a second? You’re the head of the Fu Corporation, managing tens of thousands of people. Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?”
“So what if I’m the boss?” Fu Siyi lifted her phone, smiling sweetly into the camera, her tone soft and obedient:
“No matter how powerful I am, I’m always your little puppy. Always.”
Fanzhen laughed out loud, blushing as she scolded:
“You’re so cheesy.”
Fu Siyi, in full childish mode, barked:
“Woof… wife is so pretty.”
Fanzhen couldn’t stop laughing:
“It’s so noisy where you are—so many people… and you’re actually barking like a dog? People might think you’re crazy!”
The Alpha on the other side didn’t care:
“Woof, woof… I want to cuddle sis…”
“…”
Fanzhen was speechless:
“Miss CEO, I have a lot of work to do. I can’t play with you right now.”
“Only said two sentences and you’re hanging up. Sis doesn’t love me anymore.” Fu Siyi’s tone was full of exaggerated heartbreak, her voice soft as a whisper:
“Sis has another puppy now and doesn’t want me anymore…”
Fanzhen: ??
Another dog?
Probably someone surnamed Fang…
She took a deep breath. If she didn’t calm down, this little jealous beast might explode.
“There’s no other dog, okay? Just you, one and only.”
Every cell in Fu Siyi’s body felt soothed. Her lips curled into a satisfied smile—only for it to suddenly freeze.
She heard a sweet, clingy female voice from Fanzhen’s end of the call:
“Sis… do you want to raise a little puppy?”
Fu Siyi’s expression cracked like a damp, peeling wall, bit by bit flaking off.
She recognized that voice instantly—it was someone she’d known since childhood.
Fanzhen looked even more stunned than Fu Siyi. Her pupils dilated sharply, and she stiffly turned around.
In her wide, startled eyes, Fang Songxian’s smiling face gradually came into focus.
Fanzhen stood frozen, unable to react. Only when Fang Songxian slowly moved closer did she finally snap out of her shock and blurt out in panic:
“Why are you still here?”
In normal circumstances, that question would be fine. But today, Fu Siyi had asked more than once whether Fang Songxian had visited the Fu residence. Fanzhen saying this was essentially an admission that she’d lied.
As soon as she said it, two words struck her like lightning:
It’s over.
That jealous little beast was angry.
And not just angry—this was the kind of anger that kisses and hugs couldn’t fix.
Before Fanzhen could think of a way to fix it, Fang Songxian leaned closer and curiously peeked at her phone:
“Sis, I heard you say ‘dog’ just now. Were you talking to someone? Are you thinking of getting a puppy?”
Fanzhen’s heart pounded. Her body moved before her brain could process—she quickly hung up the call.
Fang Songxian stared at the now-black screen, puzzled:
“Why’d sis hang up?”
“I-I-I finished the call,” Fanzhen stammered, instinctively backing away a step to create distance.
Clutching her phone, she realized she’d made a critical mistake.
She didn’t know Fang Songxian well enough to predict how she’d react if she found out about her and Fu Siyi. She’d hung up to protect Fu Siyi, but that only deepened the misunderstanding.
She should’ve hung up before saying anything. That would’ve been better.
No—wait!
It wasn’t about the sequence anymore.
The real problem now was: how to calm down that jealous little girlfriend.
What now?
She must be really mad now.
Fang Songxian noticed her pale face and asked with concern:
“Sis, what’s wrong?”
Fanzhen’s thoughts were scattered. She walked forward dazedly. Fang Songxian quickly caught up:
“Sis, you were right to scold me. I didn’t think things through. I’ll go back and try to convince mommy… Please don’t go. I really didn’t mean any disrespect…”
Fanzhen abruptly stopped walking, turned around, and for the first time showed a coldness Fang Songxian had never seen before.
Her smile froze. She instinctively felt fear and dared not get closer.
Fanzhen’s gaze was sharp and icy, her voice biting cold:
“Fang Songxian, stop following me. The more you do, the more I’ll hate you.”
…
Fu Siyi stood silently after the call ended, her gaze growing darker with the dimming screen.
Fang Songxian might not have seen her clearly in the video, but she saw everything.
She saw how close Fang Songxian’s face was to Fanzhen’s—practically cheek to cheek. The image felt like a stab to the heart.
Her hands clenched into fists, knuckles pale white. She looked at the never-ending line in front of her, her chest growing tighter and tighter.
