- Chapter 16 - Becoming Love Rivals with the “Phoenix Man” Top Star (Part 16)
A cool, unfamiliar, yet somewhat familiar female voice suddenly spoke. Fu Yanzhou froze for a second. He quickly sifted through his memories and immediately connected the voice to its owner. He couldn’t help but blink in surprise. “Miss Jiang?”
Fu Yanzhou was thrilled. He never expected to get to talk to Jiang Bieyuan so suddenly. Jiang Bieyuan was always busy; whenever Fu Yanzhou called, her secretary would diplomatically intercept the call. He had no chance to contact her directly. It was even worse in person. Jiang Bieyuan was swamped with work, and Fu Yanzhou could barely catch a glimpse of her shadow, let alone have the chance to go on dates and cultivate a relationship with her.
He used to feel frustrated by this, but Jiang Bieyuan’s status was what it was. Even though he often got angry about it, there was nothing he could do. He could only passively wait for Jiang Bieyuan to reach out to him.
Until now, Shen Sujie had secretly connected with Jiang Bieyuan behind his back.
The surprise was too sudden. After his initial shock, Fu Yanzhou immediately adopted a warm and eager tone. “Miss Jiang, what are you doing with Qiao Weiwei?”
He asked casually, preparing to use the opportunity to chat and deepen their connection before subtly casting his line to lure Jiang Bieyuan into taking the bait.
But Jiang Bieyuan didn’t play along. Instead, her voice became even colder as she retorted mercilessly, “Does it have anything to do with you?”
Fu Yanzhou froze, choked by Jiang Bieyuan’s ruthless question. A sudden, unidentifiable rage flared up inside him. His mouth twitched, and he unconsciously squeezed his phone tightly. It was the only way he could manage to suppress his inner fury and maintain the facade of a polite gentleman in front of Jiang Bieyuan. “Miss Jiang, I was just trying to show my concern for you…”
“There’s no need,” Jiang Bieyuan replied coolly. “I don’t need your concern. If you have nothing else to say, I’m hanging up.”
She didn’t wait for Fu Yanzhou to say another word, ending the call abruptly. To prevent him from bothering her again, she immediately switched Shen Sujie’s phone to airplane mode.
With everything taken care of and no more interruptions from Fu Yanzhou, Jiang Bieyuan returned the phone to Shen Sujie, barely suppressing her annoyance. “What did he want?” she asked.
“He wants me to go back and work overtime,” Shen Sujie said, lifting her chin and looking at Jiang Bieyuan with innocent, confused eyes. “He said something very important came up, and he needs my help.”
“Didn’t you say it’s your day off today?” Jiang Bieyuan stood over Shen Sujie, looking down at her, and took the opportunity to suggest her own idea. “Working for him won’t get you anywhere. Quit, and I’ll find you a new job. Or if you don’t want to work, you can stay home, and I’ll take care of you.”
According to the original “Qiao Weiwei” persona, she would have agreed in a heartbeat. But Shen Sujie looked at Jiang Bieyuan with hesitation. Seeing this, the expression in Jiang Bieyuan’s eyes darkened. “You don’t want to?” Was it that she didn’t want to owe her a favor? Or was it simply that she didn’t want to leave Fu Yanzhou?
“That’s not it,” Shen Sujie said, gently shaking her head. She then explained earnestly, “I just haven’t had time to think about it, so I can’t make a decision right now.”
“Working for Fu-ge is easy, even though he can be a little demanding sometimes. I get to meet other celebrities, which means I get all the juicy gossip first-hand,” Shen Sujie argued honestly. “It’s hard to say no to that.”
Jiang Bieyuan understood. Most girls today love to follow celebrities, some even going to insane lengths to get a hold of their flight and hotel information, just to get closer to their idols. If Shen Sujie was into that, then her job was perfect for her.
However… Shen Sujie wasn’t working for just anybody. Jiang Bieyuan felt an inexplicable disgust and aversion every time she heard the name “Fu Yanzhou.” She wanted to completely erase that name and everything associated with it from her life, so she was desperate for Shen Sujie to cut him off.
Jiang Bieyuan’s expression was not a good one. Shen Sujie, sensing this, wisely changed the subject, asking about Jiang Bieyuan’s actions with concern. “Why are you back all of a sudden? Weren’t you in a meeting?”
“It’s over now,” Jiang Bieyuan said, her expression finally softening as her attention was diverted. The long meeting had ended, and Jiang Bieyuan could no longer suppress her growing desire for the girl. She had specifically rushed back during a rare break, hoping to spend some intimate time with her. Who knew that the first thing she’d hear when she opened the door was Shen Sujie on the phone with Fu Yanzhou?
Jiang Bieyuan was incredibly jealous. The first thing Shen Sujie did when she woke up wasn’t to contact her, but to talk to that heartless, hypocritical scumbag, Fu Yanzhou. Now that the scumbag had been dealt with, Jiang Bieyuan looked down at the pale skin exposed by Shen Sujie’s clothes, and her breathing grew heavier.
Shen Sujie knew this was bad. But before she could do anything, Jiang Bieyuan had her in her grip. The woman sat down, pulling her into her lap and kissing her. “Why are you hiding? Don’t you want this?”
Shen Sujie held her off with her hands, speaking softly, “I just woke up, and I haven’t finished my breakfast.”
“No problem,” Jiang Bieyuan said, pecking her lips. “You can eat it later.”
Without waiting for Shen Sujie to refuse, she scooped her up and moved her to the sofa. The temperature in the room instantly rose. The system’s eyes widened, staring at the sensual scene, and it suddenly felt uncertain. It felt like—was its host the one being hunted, not the hunter?
And why did neither the heroine nor its host seem to have any interest in the male lead? The original story was about two ex-lovers turning against each other and fighting over the same man, constantly battling it out for Fu Yanzhou’s affection!
*******
When the call was hung up, Fu Yanzhou was stunned. He had never expected Jiang Bieyuan to be so cold and cruel. He stood there holding his phone for a long time before he finally reacted, immediately dialing her back. But whether he called once, twice, or three times, there was no answer. Even when he messaged Shen Sujie on various apps, he received no response.
Fu Yanzhou’s mood darkened, his displeasure nearly reaching a peak. How dare they? How dare they hang up on him and not reply to his messages? Beyond that, what bothered Fu Yanzhou most was the vague feeling that something was wrong. Why was Shen Sujie with Jiang Bieyuan so soon? Shen Sujie hadn’t even told him she was going out of town to see Jiang Bieyuan.
Fu Yanzhou’s brows furrowed. After a few minutes of deep thought, he put Shen Sujie and Jiang Bieyuan out of his mind because he had more important things to do. Shen Sujie and Jiang Bieyuan wouldn’t go anywhere, but if he were to show up late, those rich women might fall into the hands of his rivals.
Thinking of those crazy, middle-aged women, Fu Yanzhou’s face soured. He became even more determined to win over Jiang Bieyuan as soon as possible, and washed his hands of his past ways.
The system watched in a panic as Fu Yanzhou ignored the situation and was unaware that Shen Sujie and Jiang Bieyuan were kissing passionately at the moment.
“Fu Yanzhou! Get it together!” it screamed internally.
“If you don’t do something soon, your heroine is going to become Shen Sujie’s heroine!”
