The Beloved Master's Mad Dog Disciple - Chapter 6
Bo Xuenong never begged Shen Yanting to kill her so early. Now that she knew someone threatened Shen Yanting’s life, she had to eliminate Guan Caimei’s “Male and Female Leads” first before seeking death.
She had planned everything meticulously, even choosing their methods of execution. All that remained was identifying the pair by name. Unfortunately, Guan Caimei proved utterly useless; after Feng Jin merely beat her, she spent three days nursing her injuries.
How dare such a frail creature covet Shen Yanting? She has no self-awareness whatsoever!
Bo Xuenong tried to approach Guan Caimei directly, but strangely, Feng Jin always appeared at the opportune moment, inventing excuses to block her path. Not only could she not uncover the identities of the Male and Female Leads, she couldn’t even catch a glimpse of Guan Caimei.
If not for the need to protect her “gentle Senior Sister” reputation, she would have torn Feng Jin’s mouth apart before interrogating Guan Caimei.
As Feng Jin materialized before her again, Bo Xuenong narrowed her eyes slightly. It wasn’t paranoia; Feng Jin’s timing was too perfect, and how did she always know which direction Bo Xuenong would approach Phoenix Spirit Mountain from?
Bo Xuenong had cultivated an almost flawless image within the Imperial Tranquility Sect. She was quite familiar with every Inner Sect disciple and had interacted with Feng Jin frequently in the past.
On the surface, Feng Jin and Bo Xuenong appeared to be polar opposites within the sect. In reality, Bo Xuenong was far more extreme than Feng Jin, which made Feng Jin one of her favorite Junior Sisters. However, ever since the mysterious Guan Caimei arrived on the mountain, Bo Xuenong had noticed Feng Jin acting increasingly strange.
In recent days, Bo Xuenong had tried to eavesdrop on others’ thoughts, but without success. Feng Jin’s inner voice had only briefly surfaced that one day, and she hadn’t been able to hear it since. Now, she worried she might lose the ability to hear Guan Caimei’s thoughts as well. If that happened, her only option would be to hold a blade to Guan Caimei’s throat and demand answers. But with Shen Yanting constantly by Guan Caimei’s side, how could she corner her for interrogation?
Lost in thought as she gazed in Feng Jin’s direction, Bo Xuenong didn’t realize Feng Jin had mistaken her stare for focused attention. Feng Jin secretly clenched her fist. “Why is Eldest Senior Sister looking at me like that?”
Oh heavens! Eldest Senior Sister is truly beautiful, but her gaze terrifies me! It wasn’t me playing chess with Elder Shen! Why is she staring at me like this? Please don’t hold a grudge! I beg you!
That voice again.
Bo Xuenong’s dark eyes suddenly focused again, landing on Feng Jin’s face.
She realized that Feng Jin’s inner thoughts seemed vastly different from her outwardly arrogant and unrestrained demeanor. Was Feng Jin truly afraid of her?
Uncertain, Bo Xuenong wanted to hear more, but Feng Jin’s voice fell silent.
Feng Jin still hasn’t said who Shen Yanting is playing chess with!
It’s Master’s business who she plays chess with!
The simultaneous voices made Bo Xuenong frown slightly. She couldn’t help but take a half-step forward and to the left, still determined to ascend the mountain.
Feng Jin quickly caught up, puffed out her chest, and blocked Bo Xuenong’s path.
How annoying. I really want to kill her.
Just as Bo Xuenong’s murderous intent flared, Feng Jin’s inner voice resurfaced:
Eldest Senior Sister is starting to hate me! Why did Martial Aunt Shen have to play chess with Feng Yingbo? If she’s supposed to be monitoring Eldest Senior Sister, she should just follow her properly! Pretending to “pass by” Phoenix Spirit Mountain in advance is completely unnecessary! I absolutely can’t let Eldest Senior Sister see her playing chess with Feng Yingbo… They’ve been playing for two days now, why does Eldest Senior Sister keep coming here every day?! She probably doesn’t need anything from Feng Yingbo, right? If Eldest Senior Sister finds out Feng Yingbo has been winning every game… If Eldest Senior Sister holds a grudge against me, could I defect to the Female Lead’s side? At least I’m the Female Lead’s…
She hadn’t lost her ability to eavesdrop on others’ thoughts, but currently she could only hear Guan Caimei and Feng Jin, and Feng Jin’s thoughts were always fragmented.
Though incomplete, Bo Xuenong still gleaned some crucial information.
Shen Yanting was playing chess with Feng Yingbo.
Feng Yingbo was the strongest Elder in the Imperial Tranquility Sect besides Shen Yanting. Given her status, she was qualified to play chess with Shen Yanting. Victory and defeat were common in warfare, and Bo Xuenong believed Shen Yanting would win back her honor. Her murderous intent toward Feng Yingbo had waned slightly, but… it seemed Shen Yanting wasn’t keeping a close watch on her. That meant she had an opportunity to corner Guan Caimei with a blade and interrogate her. Yet she didn’t seem particularly pleased about it.
The Female Lead.
Feng Jin had also mentioned the Female Lead.
Was she planning to defect to the Female Lead’s side? What was her relationship with the Female Lead?
An ally? Should I kill her too?
Bo Xuenong moved closer, looking down at Feng Jin’s ten-year-old body and her cold, sharp eyes. Suddenly, she smiled. “Sixth Junior Sister, I’m not looking for Martial Uncle. I just wanted to check on our Junior Sister. She’s been ill for so long, and I’m worried about her.”
Bo Xuenong noticed Feng Jin’s lips trembling violently.
Feng Jin didn’t believe her.
Bo Xuenong touched her face, suddenly doubting her acting skills.
If Feng Jin could see through her, would Shen Yanting, who was with her every day, also notice?
No! Master wasn’t like Feng Jin or Guan Caimei, those strange people. She hadn’t actually killed anyone, so she was still Master’s good disciple!
Guan Caimei had said Master was spying on her. If the surveillance continued, wouldn’t that prove she was still pleasing Master?
Bo Xuenong secretly affirmed her reasoning, simultaneously resolving to learn a new spell to evade Master’s gaze. After all, she had to maintain her image as a good disciple, even though she was now truly preparing to kill.
Feng Jin still made way for her, but she grabbed Bo Xuenong’s hand, half-pulling and half-dragging her upward. Terrified of Bo Xuenong encountering Shen Yanting and Feng Yingbo, she steered her directly toward Guan Caimei.
Bo Xuenong followed closely, a smile plastered on her face. “Sixth Junior Sister, I’ve been thinking a lot about our childhood friends and family lately. Don’t you miss them too?”
Bo Xuenong was only five years old when she joined the Imperial Tranquility Sect, so her memories of her earlier life were hazy.
She was clearly lying, but she was betting that Feng Jin wouldn’t dare call her out. From Feng Jin’s inner thoughts, Bo Xuenong could tell she was timid, especially afraid of her.
Feng Jin quickened her pace. “Eldest Senior Sister, you’re joking. Master brought me back to the Imperial Tranquility Sect when I was still an infant, and I’ve never left since. My family and friends are the Martial Uncles, Martial Aunts, and Senior Sisters here.”
“……”
Bo Xuenong didn’t believe Feng Jin, but she had to trust her own memories.
In her recollection, Feng Jin had indeed never left the Imperial Tranquility Sect. Moreover, due to the sect’s scarcity of resources and few Elders, disciples were never sent down the mountain for training, let alone to participate in major sect competitions.
Bo Xuenong herself hadn’t left the sect in five hundred years, so Feng Jin couldn’t be an exception.
Then when had Feng Jin met the Female Lead? And what connection could they possibly have?
Unable to figure it out, Bo Xuenong decided to stop thinking about it. Perhaps she would find the answers when she met Guan Caimei.
Feng Jin skirted Feng Yingbo’s residence and led Bo Xuenong straight to Guan Caimei’s temporary quarters. She had resolved to keep Shen Yanting’s presence here a secret from Bo Xuenong, but the moment they stepped inside Guan Caimei’s room, they found Feng Yingbo and Shen Yanting already there.
Feng Yingbo was examining Guan Caimei’s injuries, while Shen Yanting stood silently nearby, neither speaking nor looking at anyone.
Bo Xuenong froze at the sight of Shen Yanting.
Feng Jin struggled to contain her frustration. “Master! Martial Aunt Shen, what are you doing here?”
Her tone was impatient with Feng Yingbo, but she deliberately softened her voice when addressing Shen Yanting, adding a layer of exaggerated respect that pleased Bo Xuenong somewhat.
Before Feng Yingbo could reply, Shen Yanting glanced at Bo Xuenong behind Feng Jin and suddenly said, “Just passing through.”
