The Black Lotus Villainess Only Wants To Possess Me - Chapter 15
Ye Chengxing’s appointed lawyer, surnamed Jiang, was highly skilled and had handled numerous high-profile cases, earning her a stellar reputation in the legal community.
However, Lawyer Jiang was notoriously capricious in accepting cases. Some clients who offered exorbitant fees were turned away, while others with little to no compensation found her volunteering to represent them.
Her methods seemed entirely unpredictable.
When Ye Chengxing learned she had secured Lawyer Jiang, she was uncertain if the lawyer would take Li Jia’s case.
Yet this “capricious” Lawyer Jiang, after a brief consultation, reviewing the contract documents, and listening to the recordings, immediately agreed to take the case.
The process was so smooth, Ye Chengxing hadn’t anticipated such ease.
Observing the hidden expression in Jiang Lubei’s eyes, Ye Chengxing began to understand the true standard behind the lawyer’s “capriciousness.”
A clear conscience.
Because the matter progressed so smoothly and swiftly, the consultation ended much earlier than Ye Chengxing had anticipated.
As she stepped out of the law firm, she took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and felt a slight lightness wash over her.
Ye Chengxing stretched her shoulders and neck, then pulled out her phone to check the time. As soon as she unlocked it, she noticed an unread message from Li Jia: “Afternoon tutoring session’s over. I’m heading out to pick up some books and practice exams.”
Ye Chengxing glanced at the timestamp—the message had been sent about fifteen minutes ago.
I completely forgot about this! she thought, chiding herself for the oversight.
She quickly typed a reply: Just saw this. I was busy and didn’t check my phone. Are you already out? Where are you? Wait there, I’ll come pick you up.
After sending the message, Ye Chengxing paused, feeling like she’d forgotten something. She reopened Li Jia’s contact page.
The phone’s interface and functions in this world were different from what she was used to. It took her a while to find the transfer function. Once she did, she entered a sum, selected the “No recipient confirmation required” option, and sent the money.
With that done, she noticed Li Jia hadn’t replied yet. Deciding to wait in the car, she figured she’d go find her as soon as she got a response.
Ye Chengxing sat in the car, unaware that shortly after she left, Li Jia had also entered the law firm.
The Omega wore a hat and mask, her gaze hidden beneath the brim.
The advantage of having a second chance was immense, allowing her to prepare for many things in advance.
The lawyer she had an appointment with today was named Jiang Lubei. In her previous life, Jiang had been renowned not only for her professional competence but, more importantly, for her integrity and unwavering sense of justice. Unlike many others who had grown jaded and numb, Jiang’s moral compass remained intact, making her the ideal choice for Li Jia’s legal needs.
After all, if Li Jia wanted to terminate her contract with Starflash Entertainment, other lawyers might hesitate to take the case. But Jiang Lubei’s character guaranteed she would accept it and fight tirelessly for her client.
Her phone buzzed with a notification. Li Jia glanced at Ye Chengxing’s reply, her gaze pausing briefly on the words “Wait for me, I’ll come pick you up” and the surprisingly large transfer amount.
The pause lasted only a second before she expressionlessly switched off her phone screen.
She hadn’t come to choose books or buy practice papers in the first place; it was just an excuse she’d made up on the spot. She’d return after her conversation.
She put away her phone and entered Jiang Lubei’s office.
After a few exchanges, Jiang Lubei looked at her with a somewhat dazed expression.
“You’re Li Jia?”
Li Jia frowned slightly at the question. Lawyer Jiang shouldn’t know her. But before she could reply, the lawyer continued, “Your sister just came to see me about this case too.”
The words Li Jia was about to speak froze on her lips. She looked up, rooted to the spot. “You mean my sister was here… Ye Chengxing?”
“Yes, just a few minutes ago,” Jiang Lubei replied, confirming her question.
After Jiang Lubei finished speaking, Li Jia didn’t hear another word. Maintaining a calm facade, she made up an excuse to leave the law firm, but her heart was churning with turmoil.
Only one sentence echoed in her mind:
“Your sister just came to see me about this case too.”
