- Chapter 21 - My Fierce Wife is Afraid of Ghosts
The next day, the production team arranged a brand-new activity called “Haunted House Adventure.”
Luo Xiaoxiao scoffed at this.
“What kind of nonsense is this?”
Sun Lei, ignoring the disdain in her eyes, continued explaining the rules. “Here’s how the game works: First, each guest must tell a story before entering the haunted house.”
Luo Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes slightly—wasn’t this her forte?
“Everyone starts with 100 points. Once inside the haunted house, every scream will deduct 5 points,” Sun Lei added with a raised brow. “Your remaining points will determine your lunch budget for today.”
Luo Xiaoxiao snorted. It seemed she’d have to put her skills to use and scare all those fake sweethearts senseless.
“Alright, who wants to go first with their story?”
Luo Xiaoxiao immediately raised her hand. “I will!”
Li Fanshuang had wanted to stop her.
She hadn’t told anyone, but she was terrified of ghosts. Seeing the eagerness in Luo Xiaoxiao’s eyes, she suppressed her own fear.
Fine. If she was this excited, Li Fanshuang would let her have her way.
Their marriage would end someday anyway—might as well leave behind some good memories now.
Luo Xiaoxiao concealed the sly glint in her eyes. After a brief pause, she looked up, her expression now eerily solemn.
“Deep in the Long Mountains, there exists a creature that closely resembles humans—they’re called ‘human-faced bears.’ To lure their prey, they balance cow dung on their heads, making them look like a person wearing a hat from afar.”
Lu Yu gulped, unconsciously clutching Zhu Yuxin’s arm beside her.
Even Li Fanshuang felt a chill. Luo Xiaoxiao spoke with such conviction—could this actually be real?
“One day, a friend of mine was driving through the Long Mountains when suddenly… a thick fog rolled in. In the distance, a figure waved at her…”
“Wahh…” Yuan Zhiqing nearly burst into tears at this point.
Only the two veteran actors and Sun Weiliang remained unfazed.
Ye Zhao, ever the enthusiastic audience, clapped first. “I’ve heard of such creatures before. They really do exist in some high-altitude regions.”
“Exactly,” Qin Heya chimed in. “These animals are incredibly clever. If you open your car door, you’re basically delivering yourself as takeout.”
“Wait, this thing actually exists?” Yuan Zhiqing’s lips twitched. She’d assumed Luo Xiaoxiao had made it up to scare everyone.
Turns out it was real.
Sun Lei nodded in satisfaction at the reactions. “Seems like everyone enjoyed Luo Xiaoxiao’s story. In that case, Luo Xiaoxiao and Li Fanshuang may proceed first to the haunted house.”
Luo Xiaoxiao hummed in acknowledgment and left with Li Fanshuang.
“We have to drive ourselves?” Li Fanshuang frowned, noticing not even the cameramen were following them this time.
Luo Xiaoxiao raised a brow and plopped into the passenger seat. “I could tell from Sun Lei’s face earlier—he’s definitely up to no good.”
Li Fanshuang nodded reflexively. “That’s just how he is.”
And so, the award-winning actress became Luo Xiaoxiao’s personal chauffeur. Following the show’s navigation, they headed toward the haunted house.
The GPS showed only 3 km, yet they drove for over half an hour.
“I think something’s wrong. Why are we still going in circles? And…” Li Fanshuang’s throat moved as she noticed fog had silently crept around them without their noticing.
Luo Xiaoxiao frowned, instinctively suspecting Sun Lei was playing tricks on them. Her hand hovered over the car door handle, poised to open it. “I’ll go check.”
“Wait!” Li Fanshuang’s voice grew urgent with tension. “What if there’s a bear-human hybrid out there?”
“Huh?” Luo Xiaoxiao hadn’t expected her offhand lie to be taken seriously by Li Fanshuang.
That bear had been real, but definitely not here—this was flat plains!
Yet the fog’s sudden appearance was eerie enough that Luo Xiaoxiao didn’t dare leave Li Fanshuang alone in the car. If anything unexpected happened, regrouping would be difficult.
“But can you even see the road ahead now?” Luo Xiaoxiao gestured forward with her chin.
Only then did Li Fanshuang realize the fog ahead had thickened into an impenetrable wall.
A flicker of fear ran through her.
Her peripheral vision caught Luo Xiaoxiao’s calm demeanor. Why wasn’t she scared at all? Wasn’t she supposed to be an Omega?
“I…”
“You’re scared?” Luo Xiaoxiao’s tone held disbelief. “An Alpha like you afraid of this?”
In Luo Xiaoxiao’s eyes, her wife was kind-hearted, but with such a dominant appearance—who could associate her with cowardice?
“I tease you often, but I always thought you were…” Luo Xiaoxiao trailed off, still convinced this was Sun Lei’s scheme. Saying too much might reveal their fabricated relationship to the audience.
“What?” Li Fanshuang exhaled deeply and continued driving, this time slowing down in case of unseen obstacles ahead.
Visibility worsened. Only faint yellow lines guided them through the haze.
“My wife’s a top-tier Alpha, fearless against such things.”
Hearing this, Li Fanshuang felt both amused and exasperated. She was an Omega, and yet…
Pressing her lips together, she kept her thoughts to herself.
“Stop the car!” Luo Xiaoxiao shouted. Li Fanshuung slammed the brakes.
Luo Xiaoxiao flung the door open and jumped out.
The fog dissipated instantly, revealing their car parked inches from a gaping chasm. One more second and they’d have plunged into the abyss.
Li Fanshuang stepped out, shuddering at the sight. “I’m definitely reporting Sun Lei for this. He’s taking things too far.”
Luo Xiaoxiao’s sharp eyes caught hidden cameras positioned to film them from behind.
Turning around, they faced the ruins of an amusement park.
A flickering sign read: “Welcome to the Funhouse.”
“That was terrifying!” Lu Yu’s voice rang out as the other guests arrived.
“What kind of place is this?” Yuan Zhiqing cried, hiding behind Sun Weiliang.
The lanky man yawned lazily. “Probably the haunted house the production team mentioned.”
Luo Xiaoxiao clicked her tongue, about to speak, when a distorted voice echoed through the amusement park grounds.
“Welcome to my world. Be careful—here, ten minutes is day and ten minutes is night. You can move freely during the day, but at night, it becomes their world. If you’re caught, your game is over.”
“I’m out! I quit.” Lu Yu refused to continue. Why did this game have to involve chasing?
Zhu Yuxin’s face showed a hint of excitement as she pulled Lu Yu into a hug. “Don’t be scared, I’ll protect you.”
Luo Xiaoxiao pursed her lips. There was probably more to the broadcast that hadn’t been said yet.
Sure enough, Sun Lei’s voice rang out again. “NPCs active in the amusement park during the day—remember to find them for clues. Good luck.”
“I thought this was a dating show? Why is it turning into something like this?” Yuan Zhiqing was on the verge of tears. It wasn’t ghosts she feared, but disgust—usually, haunted houses were full of revolting things.
“You’ll get used to it,” Sun Weiliang said, unfazed. “Compared to cycling 300km in a day, carrying a bike up a mountain, and then having to chase down thieves, this is much better.”
Luo Xiaoxiao clicked her tongue and shot Sun Weiliang a sympathetic look. The poor guy had noticeably lost weight over the past couple of days.
Noticing her gaze, Sun Weiliang averted his eyes. He would never forget how Luo Xiaoxiao had refused to let him eat that night when he was exhausted.
Luo Xiaoxiao took Li Fanshuang’s hand. “Let’s go in. It’s daytime now—we need to hurry and find the NPCs.”
Li Fanshuang gripped her hand tightly. “Don’t let go, okay?”
Luo Xiaoxiao could feel the slight tremble in her fingertips—she really was terrified.
“Don’t worry,” Luo Xiaoxiao reassured her.
The two stepped into the amusement park, where the carousel spun eerily.
A little girl sat on a headless horse, clutching a doll in her arms.
“Ahh…” The girl hummed a disjointed nursery rhyme.
Luo Xiaoxiao frowned, focusing on the doll in her hands.
“What is it?” Li Fanshuang asked, too afraid to open her eyes fully.
Luo Xiaoxiao nodded. “That doll… has a camera in its eyes.”
