- Chapter 4 - Behind the Shadows of XP
“Director, inviting Actress Li this time was absolutely the right move,” the assistant excitedly said to Sun Lei.
Sun Lei looked contentedly at the trending topic before him: The Unexpected Side of the Award-Winning Actress We Never Knew
“Li Fanshuang, after all these years, still has no scandals. Ah~ what a perfect wife she’d make,” Sun Lei remarked with a smile as he watched the show’s popularity skyrocket.
“By the way, who is that Lu Yu? Have you heard anything about needing to take special care of her?” Sun Lei thought of Luo Xiaoxiao’s fawning attitude, which didn’t seem fake.
If she really was some young lady from an influential family, the production team couldn’t afford to slight her.
The assistant shook his head, “No idea. All I know is she’s paired with Fang Jin in the show.”
“And where’s her supposed partner?” Sun Lei’s lips twitched as he pointed at the screen showing Lu Yu alone.
This was supposed to be a show about real and fake couples.
Wasn’t Lu Yu’s behavior basically announcing to everyone that her pairing with Fang Jin was fake?
Luo Xiaoxiao on set had the same thought. Frowning slightly, she whispered into her microphone, “Miss, did you come alone?”
“That’s right,” the young lady answered without hesitation.
Luo Xiaoxiao was stunned. Seriously, miss, did you have to be so direct about it?
“Didn’t your agency arrange a pretty face for you?” Luo Xiaoxiao wondered if the young lady’s company had forgotten.
Lu Yu paused, “I refused. I only came to see the award-winning actress.”
Hearing this, Luo Xiaoxiao slowly distanced herself from Lu Yu.
She then clung to Li Fanshuang’s arm, “What are you looking at my wife for? I’m telling you, she’s mine.”
“Xiaoxiao, don’t misunderstand. I’m just a fan of the actress,” Lu Yu quickly explained.
When Luo Xiaoxiao said “she’s mine,” something shifted in Li Fanshuang’s heart. This little thing’s possessiveness was quite strong.
She reached out, wanting to pat Luo Xiaoxiao’s head in reassurance.
Luo Xiaoxiao leaned in and whispered, “Listen, you need to stay calm. Getting too close to fans could get you blacklisted.”
Li Fanshuang’s expression darkened instantly, forcing a smile through gritted teeth, “How thoughtful of you to remind me.”
Luo Xiaoxiao patted her own chest proudly, “No need to thank me. It’s my duty.”
She felt pleased with herself—the contract specifically stated she had to remind Li Fanshuang occasionally.
Li Fanshuang felt exhausted, questioning whether joining this variety show had been the right decision.
Just then, the door opened again.
“How lively,” a voice rang out.
As the words faded, the three of them got a clear look at the newcomers.
Luo Xiaoxiao squinted slightly. The two figures holding hands had an extraordinary air about them. Judging by Li Fanshuang’s admiring gaze, they must be veterans in the film industry.
The awkward part was, Luo Xiaoxiao didn’t have the original host’s memories and had no idea who they were.
Even if she did, she probably wouldn’t recognize them anyway.
She had skimmed through the original novel. While the host’s family wasn’t as tragic as her own, the host had started working in her teens and likely never had the chance to watch much TV.
Comforting herself with this thought, Luo Xiaoxiao timidly hid behind Li Fanshuang.
She decided to let Li Fanshuang handle all the social interactions from here on out.
“Teacher Ye Zhao, Teacher Qin.” Li Fanshuang stood up and greeted them politely.
Luo Xiaoxiao naturally rose to her feet as well.
Upon seeing them, Lu Yu’s eyes lit up. “I really like you two!”
“Hello there,” Qin Heya smiled warmly.
Luo Xiaoxiao mentally clicked her tongue—time truly spared the beautiful, they were indeed stunning.
Lu Yu’s gaze swept over the two women before she suddenly pulled Luo Xiaoxiao aside.
Lowering her voice, she whispered in Luo Xiaoxiao’s ear, “Do you think they’re really together?”
“What?” Luo Xiaoxiao was shocked. No matter how you looked at it, both were clearly Alphas. Was this world that progressive?
The image of Li Fanshuang pinching her chin flashed through her mind.
Covering her mouth, she thought—if her gender were ever exposed, might Li Fanshuang also…?
She only had thirty minutes left.
At this realization, Luo Xiaoxiao shot a disdainful look at Li Fanshuang’s back—this was such a raw deal for her.
“What are you doing?” Lu Yu slapped her shoulder. “Are you even listening to me?”
Startled, Luo Xiaoxiao exclaimed, “What was that for?!”
Her voice was slightly too loud, drawing everyone’s attention.
Realizing her mistake, Luo Xiaoxiao quickly clutched her chest to maintain character. “Yu-Yu~, you scared me.”
“I’m asking if you think they’re really together?” Lu Yu repeated in a hushed tone, her eyes sparkling with gossip.
Luo Xiaoxiao looked troubled. “I wouldn’t know anything about that.”
“What?” Lu Yu stared at her incredulously. “Are you even from this world? How could you not know about them?”
Mentally, Luo Xiaoxiao gave Lu Yu a thumbs up—you’ve hit the nail on the head, I’m indeed not from this world.
Lu Yu began an earnest explanation. “They’re both veteran artists who starred in a classic drama decades ago.”
Now understanding, Luo Xiaoxiao realized—in the social climate of that era, they couldn’t have gone public, so…
“Do you think they’re really together?” Luo Xiaoxiao’s eyes shone brightly, her gossip spirit ignited.
Having just taken a sip of water after her long explanation, Lu Yu nearly choked when Luo Xiaoxiao threw the question back at her.
Noticing the commotion, Qin Heya smiled gracefully. “Fanshuang’s wife is quite beautiful. When did you get married? You didn’t even tell us.”
“Yes, not notifying us seems rather distant, doesn’t it?” Ye Zhao chimed in.
Li Fanshuang chuckled helplessly at their perfect coordination. “Seniors, please don’t tease me. We only recently married.”
At this, Ye Zhao’s expression turned complicated. “Fanshuang, it’s normal for young people to have… certain issues. Don’t avoid getting proper treatment, and also…”
His gaze fell on the nearby camera as he deliberately turned slightly and covered his microphone. “You should visit massage parlors less often.”
Li Fanshuang’s smile twisted oddly as she mentally added another black mark against Luo Xiaoxiao.
“Let’s not talk about me. What about you two? Any good news coming soon?” Li Fanshuang raised an eyebrow.
In their country, Alpha-Alpha relationships weren’t uncommon, but two Alphas together always faced numerous challenges—the most troublesome being the issue of pheromones.
When two Alphas’ pheromones are incompatible, not only is there no pleasure, but they can become aggressive due to the pheromones.
“You don’t need to worry about that.” Qin Heya’s gentle gaze rested on Ye Zhao. “At our age, the pheromones on us are barely noticeable.”
The group chatted happily as the remaining guests gradually entered the lounge.
Luo Xiaoxiao nervously hid beside Li Fanshuang—she didn’t recognize any of these celebrities.
Lu Yu, however, was an enthusiastic young lady who eagerly shared each person’s background with her—some were well-known facts, while others were little-known secrets.
Luo Xiaoxiao listened with great interest.
Li Fanshuang tugged at her sleeve and whispered in her ear, “Keep a low profile. Right now, you’re my wife.”
Oh, right. Luo Xiaoxiao quickly switched to a pitiful expression and clung to Li Fanshuang’s arm.
“Wife, I’m a little hungry.”
What kind of show was this anyway? They were brought to this seemingly luxurious villa restaurant, yet there wasn’t a single dish on the table.
Li Fanshuang knew she was genuinely complaining, but this was just how reality shows worked.
Dating shows were all about having the guests do supposedly romantic things together—like cooking—so the audience could figure out which couples were real and which were fake.
But…
Li Fanshuang frowned slightly and whispered, “Didn’t I give you the show’s schedule?”
Luo Xiaoxiao’s heart sank. She had only been here for two days—the first spent arguing with her “wife” about divorce, and the second being today.
After realizing that, given her current financial situation, she’d starve without Li Fanshuang, Luo Xiaoxiao had naturally accepted her current role.
But when had Li Fanshuang given her the show’s schedule?
A moment later, it hit her—it wasn’t given to her, but to the useless original owner of this body.
“Wife, I…” Luo Xiaoxiao bit her lip, looking pitiful and hesitant.
Li Fanshuang sighed and whispered, “After we finish the first segment, we can cook.”
“Really?” Luo Xiaoxiao inwardly groaned. So, after all that, they still had to go through the motions before eating.
Just then, the director walked in with a script, smiling.
“Good evening, everyone.”
“Not good.” Before Luo Xiaoxiao could speak, Lu Yu cut in. “Because of her, I’m starving.”
Her gaze landed on a female Alpha guest nearby. Luo Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes slightly—either there was some juicy gossip here or some deep-seated grudge.
The girl being glared at by the young lady was named Zhu Yuxin. According to Lu Yu, she was her sworn rival.
At first, Luo Xiaoxiao hadn’t believed it. Zhu Yuxin was tall, elegant, and poised—and most importantly, her profile clearly stated she was an Alpha.
So why would an Omega like Lu Yu have any issues with her?
Every time Luo Xiaoxiao wanted to ask, Lu Yu’s resentful stare would shut her down—which only made her more curious.
Li Fanshuang pulled her aside to explain the background. Leaning close to Luo Xiaoxiao’s ear, she whispered, “Ye Zhao and Qin Heya are veterans in the industry. Zhu Yuxin is rumored to be someone the investors brought in. Fang Jin and Lu Yu are from the same company—he’s a singer. Sun Weiliang is the UFC champion.”
When mentioning the last person, Luo Xiaoxiao’s gaze darkened. She hadn’t expected to encounter someone from her own field. “I knew it. That physique definitely isn’t from acting.”
Li Fanshuang looked puzzled. “Aren’t you a masseuse? You know about fighting?”
“Of course not!” Luo Xiaoxiao scolded herself internally. You’re supposed to be a delicate little flower now—how could you know about such violent things?
But despite this, Luo Xiaoxiao’s eyes still involuntarily drifted toward Sun Weiliang. Tall, with long limbs—he could probably choke someone half to death on the ground.
Sun Weiliang noticed her stare. Huh? A cute Omega!
However, Luo Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes slightly, her gaze settling on his stomach. “Dude, you haven’t fought in half a year, have you? Your body fat’s pretty high.”
Sun Weiliang’s lips twitched. He turned away, refusing to engage. If fighting actually paid well, would I be here on a variety show?
Luo Xiaoxiao clicked her tongue and shook her head. “This won’t do. People who are too quiet don’t get sponsorships.”
Sun Weiliang: I’d really rather not. I’m just socially awkward.
The event on set was in full swing. Sun Lei had prepared a game of Truth or Dare for them.
Luo Xiaoxiao gave half-hearted answers, bored out of her mind. This is so dull. I’d rather just eat already.
Halfway through, Sun Lei glanced at the question in his hand, then at the towering Sun Weiliang. He sighed internally. What a boring question.
“What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?”
Sun Weiliang pressed his lips together, hesitating for a long moment. “In college, I woke up to my roommate kissing me.”
Luo Xiaoxiao’s mind lit up. Oh-ho! A juicy story! Who’d have thought a big guy like you would—
Seeing his pained expression, she nodded solemnly. “At least you woke up.”
“Huh?” Sun Weiliang said blankly. “I was so embarrassed back then. I kept thinking if I hadn’t woken up, it wouldn’t have been so awkward.”
“No, no, no.” Luo Xiaoxiao clicked her tongue again. “If you hadn’t woken up, it’d be more like—mmph!”
Li Fanshuang clapped a hand over her mouth, offering an awkward smile to the group. “Sorry, my wife isn’t usually like this. She must just be really excited to see you all.”
Silence.
Luo Xiaoxiao tried to struggle, but as a “weak Alpha,” she was powerless.
Li Fanshuang gripped her chin, leaning in to whisper, “Behave.”
The room fell dead silent. The cameras zoomed in on them, lingering on Li Fanshu’s hand.
A chorus of teasing erupted from the group.
So the rumors about the award-winning actress’s preferences are true! Wonder if the crew set up any surprises in their room!
