The Blind Love Life of the Returning Hero: The Companions I Lost in Another World Resurrect in the Modern Era and Indulge Me - Episode 20
Hayato stood gazing up at the front entrance of the Tetsumura Group headquarters building. The blue glass windows of the skyscraper reflected the autumn sunlight, mirroring the sky like a giant mirror. For a moment, he couldn’t believe he had been summoned to a place like this.
“They said casual clothes were fine, but…”
Hayato looked down at his outfit—jeans and a casual jacket—and muttered uneasily. He couldn’t help but wonder if a suit would have been more appropriate for entering such a high-end office building.
Everyone walking nearby was dressed in expensive-looking suits. Feeling out of place among them, he stepped inside the building.
The entrance hall was as luxurious as expected. The marble floor echoed his footsteps, tall potted plants nearly touched the ceiling, and the walls were adorned with photographs and artwork depicting the history of the Tetsumura Group. As he approached the reception counter, a woman in an elegant suit smiled at him.
“My name is Hayato Sato. I have an appointment with Tsuyoshi Tetsumura.”
Hayato introduced himself, sounding slightly nervous.
“We’ve been expecting you, Mr. Sato.”
The receptionist responded politely, as if his visit were completely routine.
“Please accept this temporary visitor pass. I’ll take you to the special conference room on the 14th floor.”
“Ah, yes. Thank you.”
He hung the temporary pass around his neck and followed the woman who would be guiding him. As they stepped into the high-speed elevator, Hayato silently wondered why Tsuyoshi had called for him.
The previous overseas job had involved some trouble, but overall, it had been a success. Maybe there was something else he needed help with.
When they got off on the 14th floor and walked down the hallway, they arrived at a door labeled “Special Conference Room 3.”
“Please wait here.”
“Got it.”
Inside, the room was elegantly furnished with a set of reception sofas and a panoramic view of Tokyo through large windows. But Tsuyoshi was not yet there.
Water and tea had already been placed on the table. The woman left him there, indicating that he should wait.
I’ve never been in such a fancy meeting room before. Come to think of it, I may have never even been in a skyscraper before.
Hayato stood by the window, gazing down at the sprawling city below. It was a view unlike his usual life as an ordinary office worker. It was also different from the days of adventure in another world. He quietly reflected on how surreal his current situation was.
A few minutes later, the door swung open, and Tsuyoshi rushed in. Behind him followed a large, stern-looking man who appeared to be a bodyguard. Hayato hadn’t seen him during the last overseas job.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Hayato.”
Tsuyoshi was slightly out of breath and looked apologetic.
“It’s fine. I haven’t been waiting long.”
Hayato replied casually, appreciating that Tsuyoshi had rushed to see him despite being busy.
“Let’s sit.”
“Yeah.”
The two sat across from each other, while the man who had entered with Tsuyoshi remained standing silently by the door. His stance radiated the tension and alertness of someone well-trained.
“So, what did you want to talk about today?”
Hayato asked straightforwardly, curious about the purpose of the meeting.
“Do you remember the attack during the last overseas mission?”
“Of course I do.”
When Tsuyoshi brought it up, Hayato nodded immediately. That incident was still vivid in his memory.
“It’s been resolved, for now.”
“That’s good to hear.”
Hayato was genuinely relieved. He had left the handling of the matter entirely in Tsuyoshi’s hands, so he didn’t know the details. But hearing it had been resolved was enough for him.
“The security company that dispatched the bodyguards is now undergoing a complete review.”
“A review?”
Tsuyoshi’s expression grew serious as he continued.
“Yes. The entire organization is being reevaluated, and staff will undergo retraining.”
“That sounds like a major undertaking.”
Hayato thought it would indeed be an exhausting task.
“They’re using this opportunity to create a stronger structure. Plans are being developed.”
“I see.”
Hayato nodded, showing his understanding.
“And I’d like you to help with that.”
“Me?”
“I want you to join Shield Agent Security Corporation, the company Tetsumura Group has invested in.”
“You want me to work at a security company…?”
The sudden proposal made Hayato raise his voice in surprise.
Tsuyoshi nodded slowly and went on.
“Yes. Shield Agent is a relatively new security company established three years ago, with the Tetsumura Group as the main investor. They handle everything from VIP protection to facility security. But due to their short history, they’re lacking in talent and a proven track record. That led to the recent failure.”
“I see.”
“We can’t afford another failure—it would be too costly. That’s why I want your help to rebuild it. We’ve even prepared a position for you. We can start the hiring process right away.”
As he listened, Hayato tried to grasp Tsuyoshi’s intentions. But in Tsuyoshi’s eyes, he saw a warm light of genuine concern for a friend. He realized Tsuyoshi had gone out of his way to prepare this opportunity for him.
“Remember, you’ve done something like this before.”
Tsuyoshi leaned closer and whispered. Hayato understood what he meant.
“Oh yeah… we did, didn’t we?”
He recalled their time in the other world. For about half a year, they had undergone practical training with the kingdom’s knight order.
Feeling nostalgic, Hayato responded. But then a look of uncertainty crossed his face.
(In this world, I was just a regular office worker. I didn’t study martial arts as a student or achieve anything remarkable in sports. Am I really suited for this?)
The image of Riri’s recent success at her tournament came to mind—how she had shone in badminton, seamlessly applying skills from her time in the other world.
That’s it.
He realized something. Not just Riri, but Tsuyoshi, Josuke, and Seika had all found ways to apply the strengths they inherited from their past lives in the modern world. Each of them was living in balance with their past and present.
And during the overseas mission, Hayato himself had done the same—reading enemy intentions, sensing danger, protecting his comrades. That was his true nature, unchanged even in this world.
With newfound determination, Hayato looked at Tsuyoshi.
“Alright. I’ll take the job.”
At those words, a look of relief and joy spread across Tsuyoshi’s face.
