Ever since reuniting with Hayato, Riria had been visiting his apartment frequently.
As a second-year student at a prestigious private girls’ high school in Tokyo, Riria would take the train to Hayato’s apartment after class. Though she should have been at badminton club practice during that time, she’d even submitted a withdrawal notice to make time for him.
“I’d been skipping club activities for a month to search for you and the others.”
“I see… Sorry for causing you trouble.”
“Not at all! I’m happy. Not only did I reunite with you, but getting to spend peaceful days like this together feels like a dream.”
She’d sacrificed her high school life to be with him and still cared for him diligently. Hayato felt conflicted about being looked after like this.
He’d heard about the life Riria—now reborn as Takahashi Riria—had lived. Though she hadn’t retained memories of the other world after reincarnation, the skills and wisdom she’d gained as the Great Sage seemed ingrained in her body. Thanks to this, she’d excelled since childhood.
She’d also mastered modern technology. After regaining her memories a month ago, she’d used computers and network technology to track down their companions.
“Just as I recovered my memories a month ago, the others may have too. And we must find Hayato, who should be in this world.”
Hayato recalled the time he’d been bedridden. While he was incapacitated, Riria had taken action.
“I couldn’t tell anyone about the other world, so I began searching alone.”
“Yeah…”
Hayato hadn’t told anyone about being a hero in that world either—and he never would. The only ones who could understand were his reincarnated comrades.
“I realized searching alone would take too long, so I taught myself programming.”
“Programming?”
“Yes. I developed custom search software—it collects and organizes data from the internet and social media, builds a database, then identifies patterns to locate our companions.”
Riria opened her laptop, showing complex code. The software automated data gathering and filtering, compiling critical intel for her to verify in person.
“That’s how I found everyone.”
“Impressive. And you came to see me.”
She’d reunited with Hayato just one month after regaining her memories.
“Development took a week; the search took three.”
“A week?! That’s incredible!”
Hayato’s voice cracked in astonishment. Though he knew nothing about programming, a week seemed impossibly fast.
“My experience from that world helped—magic and programming share similar logical structures. Both combine ‘commands’ to achieve results.”
“I see…”
Riria made it sound simple, but her explanation felt beyond any ordinary high schooler. The wisdom of her past life as a sage shone through.
“Still, it’s amazing.”
“What’s amazing is this world’s technology. It makes everything so easy—things unimaginable in that other world. A never-ending marvel.”
She wielded modern devices with masterful ease, her fingers dancing across smartphones and tablets. Watching her, Hayato recalled how she’d once channeled magic through staves and artifacts.
“So you found us all… Since you’ve confirmed everyone’s safe, shouldn’t you return to your club?”
“I’d rather keep spending time caring for you.”
She took charge of cleaning, laundry, cooking—transforming Hayato’s cramped studio into a spotless, welcoming space. When he apologized for her coming to such a small room, she brushed it off.
“Sorry for making you come to this tiny place.”
“I do it gladly. Caring for you lifts my heart—it’s my way of repaying you.”
“Repayment? You don’t need to—”
Though he’d accepted her formal “-sama” honorific in their past world, it felt jarring here. If others heard a high school girl addressing a grown man so deferentially, misunderstandings would follow. He’d asked her to drop the formality.
She’d agreed—her reincarnated self-understood modern norms. Calling each other by name did feel closer, yet her devotion remained unchanged. Hayato still felt guilty relying on a teenager’s care. At his protest, Riria’s expression turned earnest.
“Please don’t say that. You saved our world as a hero—our world’s savior from another realm. You’ve earned this. What I do barely counts as repayment.”
Her eyes held pure sincerity—no hint of pretense. Faced with her resolve, Hayato could only nod.
“You’re already helping more than enough. Thank you, Riria.”
“Yes!”
A radiant smile spread across her face at his gratitude—a dazzling sight unseen in the harshness of their past world.
Unemployed, Hayato spent his mornings job-hunting idly. Riria insisted he rest until fully healed from their final battle’s physical and mental wounds. His body had recovered—he felt better than ever.
Still, he resisted rushing for her sake. He refreshed himself with movies, shopping, meals out, and walks. Yet he knew this couldn’t last. He needed work that utilized his skills…
His otherworldly experience was vast, but how could it apply here? His previous job had fired him for unexplained absences. A vexing problem.
One day, Riria asked him to accompany her somewhere.
“Could you spare time tomorrow?”
“Of course. Where to?”
“That’s a surprise.”
She smiled cryptically.
The next day, she arrived at their meeting spot in uncharacteristically refined attire—a pink blouse and white skirt, elegant yet understated, highlighting her grace.
“Thank you for coming today.”
“Uh, sure…?”
“This way, please.”
“O-okay.”
Guided by her, they entered one of Tokyo’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Stylish boutiques and manicured trees lined pristine streets.
Five minutes later, they stopped before a sleek high-rise apartment. Uniformed guards at the entrance made its exclusivity clear.
“I’ve prepared a new home. Starting today, you’ll live here.”
“……Excuse me?”
The words were so abrupt, Hayato doubted his ears.
