Episode 10: The Lady Who Loves the Boy (Drunken)
Late at night, Phil suddenly woke up—
“Hey… Compared to other girls, I’m kinda bony… so, it feels bad to touch me, right…?”
“I-I don’t know!”
“I see…”
Beruda was completely drunk. She was clinging to him.
He had quietly snuck out of his room to cool off. And for some reason, he ran into her on the terrace—completely naked.
Thanks to Phil’s desperate persuasion, he managed to get her to at least put on underwear. But it seemed she was still very much drunk.
Right now, he was being held while forcibly made to sit on Beruda’s lap. Her soft br3asts were pressed against his back.
Beruda was muscular. She gave off a different kind of comfort from Menou or Raika.
“Hey hey… this is my favorite underwear… Phil, do you not like stuff like this…?”
“L-like I said, I don’t know!”
“I see…”
Of course, Phil couldn’t feel at peace with a drunk woman in her underwear pressing her chest into him.
“I don’t really get fashion either… so Menou teaches me…”
“This isn’t really about fashion anymore, right…? I mean, you’re not even wearing clothes!”
“…I see.”
Whether it was because of his cold response, Beruda visibly drooped in sadness.
“But, there’s a lot to underwear too, you know? Menou told me red suits her… but I prefer calm black ones…”
“That kind of talk doesn’t mean anything to me…”
Even so, the conversation didn’t change. And there she was, continuing an inappropriate conversation for an adult woman to have with an eleven-year-old boy.
“Then, Phil, what’s your favorite color…?”
“Color? Hmm… I guess… purple…”
“Hm. …That’s kind of unexpected.”
Hearing Beruda’s hard-to-interpret words, Phil blushed as he realized what she meant.
“N-not for underwear or anything! Don’t get the wrong idea!”
“Yeah, I get it. —Phil likes purple, huh? I’ll remember that.”
“Do you *really* get it…?”
Apparently, unlike before, they no longer shared any common ground in conversation.
Realizing that made Phil feel a bit lonely and sad.
“…Hey, Beruda. What are you even trying to do, acting like—”
“*Nom…*”
“Hyah?!”
Phil was suddenly nibbled on the ear without warning. And his body jolted in surprise.
“Tasty.”
“S-stop it already…!”
He had escaped from a dangerous woman, only to fall prey to a drunken one.
“Why… does everyone keep trying to eat me…!”
“Sorry… It’s just… you’re cuter than I remember you being…”
“That doesn’t make any sense! Don’t say weird things!”
Phil protested while Beruda poked his cheek with her finger.
“Why are you… so soft, and smell so nice? It’s making my head spin…”
“That’s because you’re drunk!”
The sweet smell of alcohol and Beruda’s refreshing scent mixed. Phil’s head started to spin too.
Maybe because their skin was touching, it was getting so hot it felt like he might start sweating, even though they were outside.
“Hey hey…”
“W-what is it?”
Beruda spoke in a kittenish voice Phil had never heard before. Though confused, he answered.
“What do I look like to you, Phil…?”
“…Huh?”
“We’ve been together so long… but you never even realized I was a girl, right…? I guess… I’m not attractive, huh…”
Surprisingly, Beruda seemed to have those kinds of worries too.
Maybe she had changed over the past ten years.
“Well, you did pretend to be a boy yourself… I don’t doubt my friends, you know.”
“I… see…”
She seemed satisfied with that answer.
“…Hic, uu, uuuuuuuhhh!”
But then suddenly, Beruda started crying.
“Wh-what now?!”
Phil turned his face back in surprise as Beruda began crying just from talking.
“I’ve just been… lying to you all this time…”
“…Yeah, maybe you have.”
Hearing that, Phil remembered the time he first met Beruda and gave a bitter smile.
“And yet… I’m such a burden… so unreliable… can’t do anything without you there…”
“You’re an S-Rank adventurer now. So it’s not like you can’t do anything, right?”
“Hic, uuu, hihuuuuuuh!”
“S-sorry! I’ll listen, just don’t cry!”
—At this point, it was Phil who wanted to cry.
As an adventurer, he had avoided taverns because of his age. So he wasn’t used to dealing with drunk people.
“Can I… stay by your side forever…?”
“Of course you can.”
Phil let out a sigh as he answered. He was leaning into the sobbing Beruda.
“After all, I was the one who invited you to become an adventurer, right?”
“But… at important moments, I’m… completely useless…!”
“That’s not true.”
He shut his eyes tight and recalled the time spent with Beruda.
“I’m glad Beruda was the first person I met in this town. I had so much fun adventuring with you.”
“Phil…! Phiiil… uuuuuuuh!”
Beruda sobbed as she hugged Phil tightly.
“Hyah?!”
Her breath hit his neck. It sent a chill down his spine.
“Uweeeeeeeh! Phiiil!”
“B-Beruda… you turn into a crybaby when you drink, huh… haha…”
He held back from saying, “Even though you’re ten years older than me now.” Because it would only make her cry more.
“I love you… Phil… Phiiiiiil…”
“Yeah. I think of you as… a really important friend too, Beruda.”
“Hic, uwaaaaaaaaaahhh!”
—And so, as the night wore on, the two of them confirmed their feelings for each other. But, something between them remained hopelessly out of sync.
